Subject: Poser 8 opens Multiple windows to locate files

Natolii ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2011 at 10:30 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 3:45 AM

Yeah, just what the title says.

For example. I have M4 with Osean Hair. I go to add the Silver texture from OseanMX and it looks for osean_trans.jpg.

Okay, fine, I know how to locate the files and hand edit my Pzs, but the real problem is that Poser goes into full whig out and opens multiple "Locate Files" windows and I cannot shut them down. Plus I need to use Alt-Tab to navigate to any other windows.

I have tried running correct reference as a preventative measure, but I need help with this and the FAQ on SMith Micro is worthless.

Poser 8.0.3.11793
Dell XPS 420
Window Vista Home Premium
3 gb Ram
300 gb main Hard
Poser resides on a 1.5 TB Seagate Free Agent drive with 1.16 TB free

(This is a request for help.)

A number of issues can cause this condition, starting from deep search not specified in General Preferences to files inadvertently relocated to another location.

Question: is the Seagate drive your primary drive?  Is Poser located with the Program Files folder under Vista?  If yes to both questions, there might be security and authorization issues in place preventing access to specific files.

No to both. And I have Deep search specified in my Prefs.

My main Hard drive is the 300gb internal. The Seagate is an External and Poser plus my runtime is installed there at I:Poser. The Runtime is in the main Poser runtime tree from there. I don't use external runtimes either. The Free Agent allows me to use Poser on any computer. I have 3-4 external Hard Drives I use on this machine.

This behavior only occurs when Poser needs to find a file upon loading a poser file from the library.

The only thing I could imagine is the absolute/relative pathways for contents not responding correctly when Poser references on the external drive.  I wouldn't know because I do not have such a set up.  However, there are others which do and they may have a definitive solution to your problem.  Sorry I couldn't be further help.

Yeah, and the pathways is an easy fix on the outside.

It's the software issue that is the aggravating part.

It seems switching to Shallow is the fix.
