I noticed that if instead of using Normal anti-aliasing in Bryce 5 (damn slow), that if I used the premium effects with 4 rays per pixel, the rendering time was drastically reduduced (by about 1/3). This pic is a frame from an animation that I am working on using Natural Pose. Using premium effects with 4 rays per pixel, each frame took about 2 minutes to render (Pentium III, 550) while using normal anti-antialiasing it took over 3 minutes.

The normal anti-aliasing was a little smoother than the 4 rays per pixel thingy, but for animation purposes, it is not significant. I have yet to try a higher rays-pre-pixel setting to see if it is better while still being faster than the normal anti-aliasing. I also notice that rendering at a higher resolution without anti-aliasing can be faster than with it. One could render the pic 50% larger and then resample the image to a smaller size, creating an anti-aliased effect. I will post some images in the near future to see if these techniques are worth it or not. Konan

I'ts "worth it" especially for printed pieces. I never use AI as you need to apply the "unsharp" filter in Photoshop anyway to sharpen the image pixels before printing.

For animations I've noticed too that changing from Uniform scene to Clustered scene, I cut the per frame time from 20 minutes to just under 3 minutes with no noticeable change in quality of animation. Still learning how to tweak the renders with all the new bells and whistles!
