Subject: I am looking for the link on how to do Subsurface Scattering in PoserPro 2012

Hi,

I think I made a mistake asking for vss in my previous post.

What I am looking for the link on how to do  the Subsurface Scattering. Does BB have a setup for that or can someone point me to a tutorial on how do create  Subsurface Scattering in PoserPro 2012.

Doesn't the default robot figure already have that in his skin? You could build off that.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

You could try my EZSkin script, which is being beta tested by a couple of helpful people at the moment.

It writes new SSS based shaders for your character, keeping texture, specular, bump etc., image maps.

While there are several options to exercise some control over how the shaders are built, all you really need to do is select a figure, run the script and click on the 'Do it' button :-)

PM me if you're interested?

Very promising looking.

We get closer and closer to having a real "Make Art" button. Thank you. Anxiously awaiting this.

For the latest modification for VSS with SSS, check the RDNA forum for posts created pre-PP2012 release.  There will be references to Post 240 which is the VSS setup.

It's not amazing :-) Poser Pro 2012 is amazing, and the shaders developed by BB, Carodan, Anthanasius et al over at RDNA are amazing.

This script just makes it easy to apply them. BB's VSS is another way. Both EZSkin and VSS have their own advantages.

The script will be free. Official release will coincide with the Antonia Christmas bonanza :-)

Snarly's script works beautifully, and is much less time consuming than setting up SSS using the VSS prop.  This is a "one click" solution that can be done on separate characters in a render, and in this example, is being used on an older character of mine that I hadn't set up for SSS before.

Isn't she cute?

Goody, goody.  Can't wait... would love to beta test.

The shaders from BB are fantastic. I love them and collect them and his tutorials where ever I can get my hands on them.

I love your snowmachine, great script and for sure this script is AMAZING too :D

Cant wait for the christmas bonanza. :)

Thank you for this big gift :)

We have some absolutly cool stuff in work for her too.

Not withstanding any of the above try selecting the skin in the material room then click on the "Add Skin Subsurface Scattering" Wacro button. This will give you the basics which you can further refine if required.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Now I can make my first forage into Subsurface Scattering.

Thanks for pointing that out. It appears even a lot of Poser veterans are playing catch up with the new features. I'm still but an egg.

Here you go, the RDNA forum link for human skin and SSS.

I posted a VSS-ready scatter skin that is even better than the Post 240 everybody is so fond of. Nobody has done a better one than the S+B shader. It's in the thread that compares S+B versus SSS.

And while I get why people might suggest the SSS wacro, the results are really weak compared to what I published. If my shader were to cost something, well then I could see the point of suggesting the wacro, but please. My stuff is free. And the wacro must be applied many times - click click click.

Get the S+B shader - load it into Template Skin. Save this as a new control prop. Then you can one-click all your figures with VSS.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Do you have the time to show (or describe) how to add node-based gamma correction to that shader? It would be most appreciated if you could.

Is that the mat file for James that you posted BB?   I can't seem to find anything else.

anupaum ( ) posted Mon, 21 November 2011 at 3:44 PM

There's a script in Poser Pro 2012 that does gamma correction.  Go to:

Scripts--Material Mods--Change Gamma--

Enter the desired Gamma Value, then in the Select pull-down menu, choose "All Props and Figures"

Then, in the "Apply to Channels" menu, select "All of the above."

BB showed me how to do this, so that knowledge came from him.

That does not do node-based gamma correction, though - it won't work in Poser 9!

Like someone even could. The whole node set is beyond brilliance: I wouldn't know where to start to even begin developing something on a par with Blended SSS|Diffuse + Blinn.

I'm just a transcriptionist... hopefully accurately enough to do the original concept credit.

Same as any other shader. Every incoming color that isn't white or black must be passed through x ** gamma.

The final sum of all must be passed through x ** (1 / gamma).

In this case, the only incoming color is the color map.

If you'r building the variant that uses Fresnel_Blend and Reflection (FBR) the Reflect node needs to go through x ** gamma as well. (Since it is incoming color)

The VSS-ready material is in this page:

http://www.runtimedna.com/forum/showthread.php?64789-Which-node-SubsurfaceSkin-or-Scatter-Blinn/page3

It's the JamesHead.mt5 file. Load that into a VSS control prop.

I know that if you shift-click the SSS wacro,  it applys the SSS shader to all the body parts. However, if you want to modify the SSS, do you have to change every part or can you copy and paste the settings to each body part? I tried copy to all and only got the SSS shader and not all the other parameters.

The EZ skin script looks like a great solution.

select all /copy, on the rightclick menu in mat room viewport.

ie with the shader as you want, right click in the viewport, 'select all', right click again 'copy', go to next part, select all, delete then paste. and so on until all required surfaces are treated.

vilters ( ) posted Tue, 22 November 2011 at 5:16 AM

Yes 3anson, that's how I do it also and afterwards push the shift + delete all unconnected nodes.

Just wish future figure builders would use less material groups.
