There was only one .rsr in my cow. I don't really care what shows up in my library-as long as I know what it is-, but I did save my retextured cow as 'holstein' in the library. However, I may be arguing apples and oranges since I'm not entirely sure of what's what. I just always do what the 'readme' says, and if there is none, I put .obj in geometry, the rest in library. As I believe you've noticed, no rsr files are necessary, so it really doesn't matter. As Rob mentioned, these most likely were zipped to make things convient for YOU....with recursive directories. Be sure to always unzip with recursive directories on to take advantage. When files are overwritten during Unzipping, this is a clue recursive directories were used...just unzip again with proper settings. Naming these files with the same name is called "maintaining your sanity" for the creator...AND the reciever. How else are you to keep track of what files go together. Hope this explains what's going on for you...this is NOT a fault of the creator. Hopefully will make life a bit easier for you too...
When I make a model, I make its .obj name and its .cr2 name nearly the same but not quite, e.g. scubadiver.cr2 and scuba_diver.obj; fin.cr2 and fin_.obj . Some of the Zygote and standard Poser models have their .obj and .cr2 names very different, e.g. Nude Man.cr2 and maleNudeWithEyes.obj; driver.obj and blDrvr.obj . One case when difference between the two names even in ordinary use would matter is with the Harley motorcycle model, whose .cr2 file points to its geometry file thus: figureResFile :Runtime:Libraries:Character:New Figures:Harley.obj , clearly wanting its geometry to be in the character directory along with its .cr2 file.
Another thing puzzles me: why under Geometries does there need to be a separate folder per model? Each folder is a (special mode of) file and perforce uses a whole cluster, which on my PC is 32Kbytes a time. Among my own models, several models re scuba diving that I made have their .obj and long .rsr files living communally quite happily all together on folder Poseraadivers . Sorry, I wasn't criticizing the cow model. It is quite good.
I think this is another one of those "sanity checks" that Foxhollow mentioned :) It's easier to locate the malenude.obj if it's in a directory called MaleNude than if it's loose in one big folder called Geometries. The programmers probably found it easiest to do it this way to ensure that everything was in place. It also allows there to be a different MaleNude.obj in a folder called AnotherMaleNude - which may be totally different to the original Zygote MaleNude.obj Paul
Sorry about the .rsr thing Anthony. You're right. I should only include the small .rsr not the large one. I did this to try and eliminate confusion of the non-tech users getting confused why there are two .rsr files for the same figure. From now on. I'll only include the small .rsr. As far as the name thing goes. It's much easier to keep track of things if they are named the same. While it can eat up more hard drive space. It is much easier to deal with if you are a newbie to poser. Remember. The stuff I post is targeted towards EVERYONE. Not just the poser experts. So I try to accomodate everyone by naming things so that they are easy to figure out. Or try to anyways. ;-) Thanks for the feed back Scott Ayers iamsba@aol.com

The cow has another example of a fault that I have come across :: its .obj file and its .cr2 file have names identical before the dot, so their .rsr files are both named cow.rsr , and one of these two .rsr's overwrites the other when all four files are brought into one directory to be zipped for uploading. With the cow, the big .rsr that contains the geometry ninary-ified and belongs with the .obj survived, and the small .rsr that contains the Poser thumbnail and belongs with the .cr2 was lost, so when I put the cow in my Poser, what showed as a thumbnail when I accessed the "Animals" was not a cow but the default image (a man in a monk's habit looking puzzled), until I loaded the cow onto stage and then saved it back into the library. So, please give a model's ---.obj and ---.cr2 slightly different names. If you must lose one of the .rsr's, lose the big .rsr and save some WWW space, as it will be automatically remade the first time the downloading user use the model.
