Subject: We all need to just RELAX

Janl ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 7:19 AM · edited Wed, 28 December 2011 at 7:20 AM

I think of software as a tool. You don't see people arguing about which screwdriver or hammer they are using so arguing over software is silly. At the end of the day you use whatever you find easiest to reach your aim. People who use something else are not evil.

Regarding characters: I have plenty of characters to last me a lifetime and love Antonia and Anatasia so if no more are ever produced I'd be happy enough. However, I am sure if there is a gap in the market it will be filled by some talented person so there is no need to worry. 😄

Quote - Some peps who post here are DAZ dependent and favor a war because it causes a blur in the main focus of a discussion.

Yep, and when a thread is not going there way they want it closed so go out of their way to make sure this is what happens. Wars help them achieve their aim.

"Don't ONE of you have any faith that a new figure will come along for you to spend your hard earned cash on?"...

"it's become too much like the forums where they debate politics and religion"

Within these two statements you may find an explanation for the bitter emotionalism around this issue.

IMHO knowingly or unknowingly For too many people here
V-chick,and to a lessor extent, poser itself has become an Iconic Idol that has become subject of a bizarre form of pagan style worship.

You had a precarious balance between the Main Orthodoxy that set "Church" doctrine
(File Formats, Runtime structures, trends, Vendor requirements, etc)

You had the priest class (ie  poser merchants/vendors) who faithfully applied the doctrine and produced the content and called the "faithful" to come and buy
and you have  the "Faithful" worshippers who happily disposed of their(mostly fixed) incomes faithfully hoarding gigs upon gigs of content that they will never use for anything more than one or two gallery renders.

And of course the" Goddess" herself ( Vicky) along with her erstwhile ,less popular ,cuckhold( sp?) "Micheal"
was faithfully maintained and updated by those former Zygote Acolytes known as DAZ.

Along that way you had popular high priest of the DAZ branch
Put forth a "revelation" that the DAZ branch would be  soon creating a  FREE competing figure posing& rendering application(Church) of its own following recent turmoil in corporate  ownership of the Main branch(poser).

This announcement was soon followed by a Dramatic ,albeit short lived,  breakaway and direct challenge to the Daz branch of the holy alliance by this very same popular former high priest
and some of his most ardent followers in the personification of
the Doomed $90 USD figure  "Apollo Max" .

Its producer and his followers
Woefully underestimated the depths of the pockets of the DAZ branch ,the overwhelming influence of its marketing juggernaught and loyalty of its followers.

The "rebellion"soon dissolved
"Apollo" became a freebie,
and was rendered completely inert by a deadly combination of the successful release of a well made  "M4" and the highly public "bridge burning" by its  eccentric leader with every major poser content outlet.

To this day he remains in a self imposed "exile" although some of his former disciples still run the old "Apollo Ultimate poser figure" Forum banners as a matter of
rote religious habit.
(perhaps secretly hoping for a miraculous resurrection of their  Elusive leader)

The DAZ branch with its ever evolving "DAZ studio" Application  ,quickly grew into its own Sect
that began boldly Deviating from traditional Orthodox Doctrine
(File formats ,Figure,Construction,content creation etc,)

Many orthodox "practitioners"( poser content vendors) embraced  the "new testament" and joined the Elite ranks of the  DAZ sect as Favored "PA's".

Those orthodox "practitioners" that followed the established traditions remained  Exclusivley with poser and derisively dismissed the "Dazites" as an insignificant sect/cult with  no real real relevance as their "Church" had no Dynamic Cloth or  hair.

Secure in the Assumption that ,despite the relatively minor acts of heresy in traditional doctrine being committed by the new Dazite Sect (File formats ,Figure,Construction, content creation etc,)
Their venerable "Goddess"
V-chick"and her highly and endless deluge of coveted slutwear,
would always remain available to the true original "church",

After all making her a Daz Studio only product would most certainly destroy  all commerce in the Emperium,
(the hooker wear must flow!!)

Minor skirmishes continued between the sectarian groups until
the Daz Sect did the unthinkable and Created a new Form of the
V-Goddess that does not fully function on poser (GENESIS)

Resulting the the all out, Bitter angry Hate filled Jihaad  that continues unabated today.

Cheers

Indeed.  There seems to be a lot of people the are far too easily offended, and those who, it someone were handing out $10 bills, would be mad that they weren't handing out $20s.  Throw in the inevitable folks tryng to get a rise out of people, and the results are sadly predictable...

And why should it not buy him a house or whatever? It's a lot of freakin work.

Vestmann ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 11:54 AM

I don't think growing up will fix 'The Situation'. We'd need to evolve as a species to avoid this kind of a mess :)

I made a decision a while back to stick to Poser and let DS be.  It was partly because of the time and money I'd spent on Poser and products for it and partly because Poser fit my workflow better (with all the addons I'd bought).  So when Daz comes out with a product that's DS only I ignore it.  Antonia WM works well in Poser and there is a WM version of V4 on the way so I'm not worried for the future.  I see no point in using Genesis, personally.

The sad thing is that all the time and effort that's gone into bickering about the situation has left a hole in the community. Remember when we used to fight about render techniques (the gamma correction debate) or ways to make Poser do things it's not supposed to be able to?  There is less discussion about the new SSS shader then there was about the VSS system.  Could we discuss the Poser weight map system without comparing it to DS?

Like JenX said in a sticky somewhere, It's sometimes good to take a deep breath, step away from the computer and RELAX (damn, now I want to listen to Frankie).  Haters will continue hating.  We can't change that through this forum (you have to catch them and flick them on the back of their ears)

There were plenty of entreaties in the DAZ threads, by the OP, by mods, by plain ol' members, asking for an end to the venomous fighting. It got drowned out, as did the posts actually relevant to the thread.

I'm only on Page 1 of this thread as I reply to Laurie's quote above, hoping I won't see this conversation buried as well.

Except for a couple attempts to sidetrack, it's actually held up pretty well for 80+ posts, which is a decent accomplishment.

Another vote for an Ignore List. They had that on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) 15 years ago!

SamTherapy ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 2:50 PM

I still don't get the need for an Ignore button.  I can easily ignore people without it.  Anyhow, if we get one, if it works and it makes you folks who want one happy, that's cool.

I can, however, suggest a supplement to the function...

Every time a member is ignored, they get a notification telling them something like "You have been added to a user's 'Ignore' list, giving you a total of (number) users currently ignoring you".  That, I believe, would be more effective than simply ignoring someone, if the objective is to make certain people modify their behaviour.

OTOH, I can also see a potential for abuse of the system if it's implemented in that way so maybe it's not such a great idea after all.  :)

I hope everyone can keep it civil and stick to the facts and not to state things about DAZ or SmithMicro that are mainly idle speculation or basing things on misinformation and emotions. Follow the new/old forum rules. I don't know how many times I wanted to post because I was infuriated by what I read but decided against it because I thought it would just extend the craziness and only posted when I had calm facts at hand (which some still ignored).

I am a Poser user and fan from way back... I recently found my original floppy discs, and FractalDesign box I bought at Egghead Software when going through stuff that survived the flood in our apartment complex. I am a recent fan of DAZ Studio because of the power of 3Delight (which is severely under-utilized by most users). I've always been a fan of Zygote/DAZ figures. Not so much the others except for Gabriel's excellent fix for Alyson. But that's all subjective. I think subjective opinions should usually be left out of things unless it helps someone. I'm afraid too many subjective opinions and poo have been flung here recently. It will probably happen again, but I'm hoping for a long quiet period to save the sanity of the admin, mods, Laurie and others.

Stop yourself from posting for a few minutes and then reflect. You'll find most of the time it's not important and you can safely move on with no harm, no foul.

I'm not sure an ignore button would be a good idea (but then, I'm kinda amish when it comes to buttons).  I fear that when people can visually ignore someone, egos will get bruised and some people might start bickering about "why someone pushed it when they were making a perfectly valid point" or "why someones always ignores some people but not other people".  Then there are those who'd get hurt and just start pushing the button for everything.  If you want a button, give the admins an "I'm calling Chuick Norris" button.  That should settle people down.

All is politics and religion. The world is divided into Republicans and Democrats, aka Poserists and DazStudians, tell me who is who. You cannot expect to one be able to agree with the other and to live in peace.

Now comes the Religion, God did a mistake when created the Woman, so Victorias cannot be anatomically correct because the duty of Man is to correct God's error. Also any sign of nudity and improper use of His creation is offensive to God's eyes.

Next comes the chosen ones that are the owners of the most absolute Truth and no matter how much stupid things they tell you, nobody is allowed to challenge their "wisdom"

For the scenario be complete you have the Inquisitors responsible for watching the obedience to the suprene moral values of the kingdom and removing any heretic post and closing any thread that deviated from the Light.

And as final coment, it will be very funny to see in action the "ignore button" and read the threads where this function was used.

Stupidity also evolves!
