Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
Making textures out of photos is a terrible job (At least for me), so I prefer a paint program for that. You can take surface structures from a photo but - as I understand you - your effort was meant to make a portait of your daughter. The difficulties are to fit the texture (photo) to the template. And more essential: To have the shape similar to the real person, you need to play a lot with the dials in Poser. I know what I am talking about: tried to make Vicki similar to a friend of mine is still a challenge for me.
Yees, it's a trial and error job: paint the texture, render it from various angles, change the texture, render again from various angles, change the texture a.s.o. For me texturing is one of the most essential needs to have good renders (light to show a specific mood is something even more important).
If you're doing it only for your own personal use and not to share with the public (copyright issues there), you can take an already made texture and lay your photo over that. Sometimes it's a little easier than using the wire frame template, in my opinion. I make the photo about 50% transparent in Photoshop when overlaying it onto the map, then when you have it sized and positioned just right, return it back to 100% opacity and flatten the layers. I don't know if that'll help, but it's worked for me. Melanie
I know how you feel! I've had Poser and Bryce a little over a week with nothing more to back me up than a couple years of dabbling in Paint Shop Pro. ;) Since I got Poser I've used the Restore > All too many times to count. But it is a slow process. I try to concentrate as long as I can before my bum gets tired and I have to get up to exercise and stretch.

Don't get me wrong I already had respect for the skin texture makers, but after trying for 3 friggin hours to make one using a photo of my 4 yr old daughters face, my wrist is sore, my fingers are totally tramatized and my tears ducts are swollen from crying. I have a new-found respect for those of you that create such masterpieces. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful talent with all of us. Oh no don't feel sorry for me and feel like you have to take me under your wing and help me out with this or tell me what I'm doing wrong, or ask me what I'm doing or help me in any way, that's okay, I'm sure one day I'll get over this, but until then I'm closing up my Poser software putting it back in the box and I'm heading for my car and the nearest bridge to throw this box out off of. Again, to the texture makers, hats off to you all!
