Which OS are you using?

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 27 February 2012 at 5:41 AM

Windows 7 .

P8 does not appear to work all that well with 7 either. tried using the Poser characters...they load but the entire workspace locks up for awhile..then is ok, then locks up, etc.

Not sure whats up but I uninstalled and reinstalled Poser... but parts of it dont seem to install correctly. like the figure updates. I also installed up to SR3.

I may have to learn DAZ Studio.

Try installing it outside of Program Files.  Also, where did you install your content?  It offers you a choice during instalation, and IIRC the default is not in the Poser program directory...

I run Poser 8 on Win 7 with no issues, but most install exe's need to be run in compatibility mode to install correctly.

In compatibility mode Win 7 may tell you that the program did not install correctly and give you the option to reinstall using the recommended settings. Choose that option and it should reinstall correctly for you.

It's a rightious pain in the rear, but I have learned to put up with it and have accepted that almost all "old" installers will need to be run twice.

The most common problem I encounter is incomplete installations - missing geometries, buggered texture files etc.

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 27 February 2012 at 8:41 PM

the runtime subfolder is there, the library folder, but nothing in the folder ...

Heads and geometries are in there...and populated...

I'll try the compat mode.

That's how it should be by default.  I don't recall where it puts the Runtime by default, as I set P8 up with a traditional runtime.   Does anything show up in the Library when you run Poser (besides Andy)?  If so, search your hard drive for 'runtime', and it will lead you to the  location......

i ended up reinstalling again...using the classic install...now all is in the p8 folder..and v4 works....although I started a render with some heavy hair, and it was slow so I went to bed..woke up and it hadnt rendered. my power settings had the computer go to sleep after 20 minutes .... new system...a lot of kinks to work out.

first time with W7...I dont like it at all compared to XP . too much control by the system. All kinds of security BS...popups everywhere tha tthis or that is trying to do something.

Install in default
Poser in Programs folder and the Runtime/Library/Content in the shared folder.

Poser WILL create  TWO runtimes
One in the Programs folder and one in the shared folder.
All your stuff is, and should go, into the shared folder.
The runtime in the programs folder is not to be messed with.
it is just for the application itself.

When installing, always install content in the shared folder and live happy ever after.

The exception is Python scripts; those need to go into the Program Runtime if you want them on the Scripts Menu.

I set up PP2012 with seperate runtimes, with its content Runtime in the directory with my external runtimes, and it's great; I can back it up easily with everything else.... 😄

It takes a bit of getting used to, but I like Windows 7 more than XP.  However, I still like Windows 2000 best, but it's not 64-bit...

Ok I have this same problem only using Poser 9.  If I try to install in default, it wont allow it.  My C Drive is like only 1 GB left in space.  Why I have the D Drive for software.  My C Drive is just for windows.  How do you make this work if you can't install Poser to default and make Victoria 4.2 work?  Really irritating me that if I have to install it to default and I cant do to low space on HD.
