Subject: Installation

Sheedee ( ) posted Sun, 11 March 2012 at 3:07 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 4:59 PM

I purchased SAV Sonia from the store...got 3 zip files (each containing a runtime folder)

i copied and pasted each runtime folder one by one into the main Poser directory...

each time it asked if i wanted to merge the runtimes...i said yes.

went to open Poser...looked for Sonia...but could not find her any where...not even with the build in search function. I installed all my stuff into Poser using the same method and could find my items...only not this time...

what am i missing here?...what am i doing wrong...or what am i not doing?...

help is appreciated.

thanks for viewing.

From time to time it happenes to me, that I accidentally extract the "Runtime" folder from the zip's directly into the "Runtime" folder of the main program, leaving me with a "Runtime" folder in the "Runtime" folder  (.. Smith MicroPoser Pro 2012RuntimeRuntime... ) g .. that's one level below. So of course I can't find the new files, through the Library, in the running program then. =)

Where is Poser installed? What version of Windows? Sounds like you installed them to the runtime in the folder with the program. If you have Windows Vista or 7, you can't do that if you have UAC turned on. Those windows versions prevent data from being written to the Program Files (64bit) and Program files (x86) (32bit) folders.

For what it's worth, this problem comes up at LEAST 2 or 3 times a week. Do a search. There's plenty of info out there.

Hi

Pick one of the files that you expected to see in your Poser menu and run a Windows search for it.

It will show you where the files ended up.  If your running Windows 7 which has a very weak search engine for some unknown reason, download and use Agent Ransack.

It's a very good search engine, I've used it for a long time.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to do this after importing stuff into Poser.

Sometimes it just doesn't end up where you expected it to.

I finally created a new folder in the Poser Directory named MyRuntime, it has a new Runtime folder in it.  Just extract to the MyRuntime folder instead of the Poser Directory and the files go to the correct location in the new runtime.

Then just create a new library, using the Add Library button in Poser.

Now it's easy to find the new stuff that I import because it's not mixed in with the original Runtime material.

Yanno, in all the years I've been using Poser (at least 13 years) nothing has EVER ended up where I didn't expect it to. You really need to pay attention to where your things are going, even with an installer.

Quote - Then just create a new library, using the Add Library button in Poser.

Be very careful how instructions are stated.  You do not create a new library within Poser, you link a library from an external runtime already pre-existing on your HD.  Creating implies starting from nothing or ground zero.  This can confuse users.
