Subject: Commercial products for WeightMapped V4

Oskarsson ( ) posted Sun, 29 April 2012 at 2:08 AM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 11:03 AM

Is there any interest in commercial (new) products for Weightmapped V4? With the PP Outfitter old clothing can be converted and used on V4 WM but is there any interest in new content?

I'm interested in the new weightmapping technology and also a vendor so I'm thinking of building something. What would be most needed/wanted?

I'd say if V4WM had more exposure there would certainly be interest, but it might be a good idea to offer a Weight Mapped and non weight mapped version of apparel, since only Poser 9/PP 2012 users can take advantage of this.

Personally, I'd be interested in seeing WM v4 content, especially things that will take advantage of showing off the better joint bends, like shirts, pants and that kind of thing. While there are numerous fixes for V4's joints on the market, none address the clothing themselves. WM clothing will address fugly elbow bends, knee, thigh and atrocious armpits. I think it's a good idea. I wonder though if it's possible to offer sets of wm poses for clothing already on the market...would this be a feasable avenue to try?

I'd say go for it. Needs more wm clothing for V4. :) Would do it myself but I'm not that good at rigging.

Det gör jag alltid!

Eller nej, jag är rätt så gammal så det går inte så fort...

Swedish banter, don't worry about it. Thanks for the replies:)

Two versions, Weightmapping and traditional rigging might be doable, if the clothing morphs can be re-used.

Madbat, not sure what you mean. What kind of sets of wm poses for clothing already on the market? Do you mean some kind of conversion for other vendors products?

Morphs can be reused from non weight mapped to weight mapped, so this should not preset a problem.

I was thinking of conversion poses, but that pretty much amounts to converting an existing set of clothing, which is already available by script and with Wardobe Wizard. I was thinking of a pose file to make the process a bit simpler, but now that I think about it, it's kind of redundant.

Ah, OK.

Well, I'm going to take a look at V4WM at least, and see if I'll get any ideas.

I like normal everyday clothes. Jeans with belts (and holsters - okay not quite veryday but you can make them detachable), tops and backpacks.  Pullovers too, shoes, t-shirts, etc

oh hair specifically for wm V4 would be great.

The out fitter does a pretty good job for most clothing except in the area where the thighs meet in the hip (below the crotch) and the buttocks. It is acceptabel in normal poses, but does not look good when the thighs bend a little further. Also the chest/breast area needs manual adjustments with extreme (high) bending of the should/collar. So types of clothing where this is important, there would a demand.

Hair is a special case. Most long figure hair has a problem with twists and bends. If you use the outfitter you have to exclude neck and head area otherwise the mesh breaks up. Because usually the original has problems as well with twists, the problem becomes more apparent with V4WM. This is because V4WM twists differently in the head and neck area so the original movement morphs do not work very well compared to the original.  So long hair is something I would really like to see for V4WM

This is much improved in SR-2.  There are sometimes some shading artifacts in that area with an exteremebend, but the actual shape is pretty food-no more "Fin Butt"... :)  If you have any problem garments, try reconverting them under SR-2.

I woudl say for a commercial outfit theat Outfitter could be used as a starting point, and the clothing could be tweaked to improve the fit and movement.  Also, the V4WM package, being Open-Source, could be distributed with the outfit...

I am using SR2. The area below the crotch is still a bit messed up but only visible if you look up or if the figure is bent forwards. The buttocks still need adjustments with the buttocks handle and will not fit perfectly (as it should in things like panties, bikini, etc). Same is true for the breasts if you raise the arms up

I don't mean this as criticism, just as a hint on what type of clothing a V4WM version would benefit from

Outfitter has done a good job for me, so far.  I have plenty of V4 clothes, so any new V4 items would have to be pretty "original."  That being said, I think it's a good idea to release new V4 clothing with both standard and weight-mapped rigging.

Hi there... firstly thanks Oskarrson for asking this...

Speaking as a consumer who is using V4WM exclusively over the non-weight-mapped version, I would definitely favour clothing and hair products that had been pre-converted and teaked by the vendor and certified to work well, and as intended by the vendor, with the weight-mapping.

I have had plenty success using the Poser Place Outfitter to convert all sorts of pre-V4WM clothing myself. In terms of hair, I have tended to favour hair prop hair anyway...

One notable exception is your short afro hair Oscarsson, which, by merit of being short I think, just works with V4WM, without needing converted. But generally getting long, conforming figure hair to work with V4WM is beyond me, at present... so vendor supplied in this area would be great.

In part, this point seems to me to be a roughly equivalent thing to vendors including ++ or elite morphs in their items... it makes the product more flexible for the various things I haven't yet imagined I might do with it...

...and in the case of the weight-mapping it can, literally, make the item more flexible ;-)

Apologies on behalf of my iphone for mispelling your username later on in my post there too Oskarsson ;-)

Further to what I said there... in general, more, good quality dynamic clothing... or rather probably hybrid conforming and dynamic clothing is what I'd be after generally.

Looking into the hazy depths of my crystal ball... if I squint to try to see past the foreground distraction of harpies and ghouls... in due course I suspect that stuff that doesn't just fit V4WM... but also Antonia Polygon (weight mapped), Miki3 (and the imminent new Miki) and Alyson2 (and who knows what other Poser Pro 2012 revisited SM figures) would also be more likely to prise open my wallet...

;-)

EDIT: should read "tweaked" above... as in fine-tuned.

I'm not looking for wood-textured clothing ;-)

Thank You all for your input! Some good suggestions here... I'll take a look at and see what I can come up with:) I'm always interested in learning new things.

No problem, monkeycloud! My spelling is all over the place...

I will definitely look forward to seeing what you come up with Oskarsson...

Cheers ;-)
