Subject: Problems with Poser Pro 2012

Taylor-Made ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2012 at 9:52 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 8:28 AM

I installed Poser Pro 2012 when it first came out.  I run it on an i7 computer with a Nvidia FX3800 and 24 gigs of ram.  When i first installed it (64bit) it was running on Vista Business.  I never had a problem.  Sometimes it took a while to go back to preview after a render, but the serevice pack 2 took care of that.

Recently I had to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional to upgrade my video editing program.  I had to do a clean install of Windows.  After the install, I installed all my programs.  Everything (Avid, Vue, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator) works fine - except Poser.  For the first time since I began using Poser (Poser 7) I'm having nothing but trouble.  I hangs up every two minutes.  I get a white screen, or a washed-out screen and everything freezes.  Going between preview and reneder is a major undertaking.  If it will even do it, it takes five minutes.  Usually it causes the application to fail.

I just tried to render a PNG amimation sequence - something I do almost everyday without any problems.  Now a few frames may render, then I get this message:

The instruction at 0x407c3e referenced memory at 0x000001a0 memory could not be written.

I tried it with and without the service pack 2.1 and it makes no difference.  My always dependable Poser has failed me for the first time.  It is basically impossible to work with the program in its current state.  I've done dozens of animated cartoons with Poser and now I can't even get more than five frames to render.  I'm renedering in Firefly with the same settings I've always used.

Video Card Drivers?

LaurieA ( ) posted Sat, 12 May 2012 at 10:15 PM · edited Sat, 12 May 2012 at 10:17 PM

Where did you install it and do you have UAC turned on? I run it on Windows 7 Ultimate and it runs fine. I have UAC turned off and I didn't install it to Program Files.

Video card driver.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

If it's the driver, I'm in trouble.  Avid has to run on a specific Nvidia driver.  It was the same situation with Vista and Poser worked fine.  If this updated (Avid) driver isn't compatible with Poser, then my animating days are over.  I make my living editing and relax with Poser projects.  Life is never easy.

Same thing here, Windows 7 Ultimate and no issues, which I guess supports the video driver suggestion.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Must be video card driver.

What happens when you run Poser in SreeD?
What are your hardware settings? Render => Preview tab?

In the end? Only solution will be to upgrade your video card drivers.

There is a new driver for the Quadro's, but it does not work right on my workstation either.

You might try that and see if it works for you, this is a stability driver, not a performance one. It has increased virtual space, etc...

You might want to clean out the drivers you have in there now as well.

I would update the drivers if I could.  Avid will only work with an older legacy driver.  If try to open Avid with the updated driver, all I get is an error message.  As I make my living as a video editor, I can't afford to lose my editor to make Poser work correctly.  Buying another powerful computer (I do render heavy animation) just for Poser just isn't an option.  The fact that After Effects, Photoshop, Blender, and Vue all run fine on my system with no problems makes me wonder if the driver is the culprit.  As I said, if it is the driver, then my Poser days are over.  A bummer since I just shelled out a bundle for PoserPro 2012, and really liked it when it was running great on Vista.  My Vista system also required an older legacy video driver to run my old Avid system.  No problems then.  If Poser ran fine with even an older video driver than I have now, it may be the Poser - Windows 7 combo that is fouling things up.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Have you tried switching to SreeD as a display option within Poser? That may allow you to use Poser without updating your drivers.

I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.  Thanks for the help.

Maybe you can dual-boot with another install of 7 or Vista - a bit inconvenient but it should work. I'm not sure if there's a way to use an alternate hardware profile to run a different driver for a device.
