Shiny new thread but no shiny new renders to share on it. I started a few different ones today but not really inspired and nothing was good. About to leave for the midnight release of Diablo 3, so I don't think I'll be very productive over the next few days either.
So here's a question to start some conversation: where do your best ideas come from? Some of my favorites have started with something like an expression I saw on someone's face or a certain angle I just happened to see an object at when I turned my head that I wanted to recreate in Daz. The subject of the image often comes second.
Woohoo, let's get this party started, LOL
now I need to figure out to post images here, LOL.

I love that image Tako!
About inserting images, I would suggest to upload it to the gallery and then link to it here.

Stop lurking! You are missed..
I'm here too! Yes I know my name isn't spelled correctly but the name I wanted was taken so I had to make a minor change.
Tako~ Great image.
Thank you Paolo and Kim.
I'd have to say that image is from my "rendering good ol' days". My muse has been in photography mode all month and I don't know when she'll get back to rendering.
Hopefully we can get all the newb's trained up on how to utilize Reality's many great features quickly and smoothly. Need some new blood to fill up the image slots.
Cheers,
Justin

Hey, guys ... bought the Dave texture for m5 and tried to render it in Reality-Lux. It came out looking like Johnny Depp's vampire from Dark Shadows. ACK. Dead white. This is NOT the effect I was going for. Is there an ASCEL shader for Dave, and if there is not, can someone suggest how to fix it? Because it did not look good at ALL. Grrumble.

It's likely that your soecular color is too bright. See this video that shows the issue and how to fix it:

You will have to keep in mind that whatever shaders vendors use for their products for DS (and poser) that they are for that program and will most likely have to be redone in the reality console for best effect when rendered in luxrender.
For me, basic rule of thumb, make sure there is a texture in the diffuse texture slot, diffuse color is white, specular around 30-40, glossiness strength around 7000-8000 and make sure the surface fuzz tab is ticked.

Uhmm, "A new beginning"?! I guess the new render challenge is people yawning? ;)
[Sorry, could not resist :D ]
Just to know, is anybody in need of instructions on how to post images to the thread? If so, just ask and I'll put something together.

FYI, I think if you want to embed an image you have to edit the HTML via the button in the top left with the same name.
Quote - Anyone know if reality will work in 4.5?
No, it doesn't (currently) work. I usually like to try out betas and such, but I'm giving this a wide berth for now. It uninstals your current version of Studio 4, I understand. I'm not taking the risk on any level, and I don't have a spare machine to test it on.
Quote - Anyone know if reality will work in 4.5?
As already stated, it does not currently work. But it is a safe bet to say that it *will *work once Paolo sets his mind and schedule to make it so. He may wait until the version is less of a beta with the uninstalling of the stable version and all that. Much of what I'm saying is speculation. Only he can answer as to when, the challenges (or lack of them) to making the update, and he's taking some vacation time for at least a couple of days, maybe more.
Better support on a day to day level and versioning etc I've personally never seen, so if people are at all worried about buying the product thinking it won't be kept up to date I'd go ahead and buy it personally. If people are wondering if they can install the latest Studio beta and keep using Reality, not at this time.
All my info is based on past observations falling Reality for some time now, and statements made in the now transitioning Daz forums. I have no insider info. :P
A DAZ technical bod says:
Third Party Plug-ins [...] should be along shortly as we have kept the PA's in the loop on the SDK changes, and in many, though not all, cases it is just a matter of recompiling and we have great faith in our Plug-in Developers.
As long as Reality isn't one of those "not all cases", it doesn't look like we should have to wait too long for Paolo to get it working—after his vacation, that is.
I've been reading the comments on 4.5 and I'm looking forward to it.
I, on the other hand, never got on with Studio 3, after having started on Studio 4. I think to a great extent it's down to what you are used to.
Oh, missed this post from Paolo (in this forum).
I guess we should let this thread get back to Reality renders. Here's what I've uploaded so far:

Note received from Paolo regarding 4.5
Hello.
As some of you have noticed DAZ has released Studio 4.5RC1 today. Reality 2.2 is not compatible with this version so, please do not file bugs about it.
I will update Reality to support Studio but I am on vacation starting today till the end of May so nothing is going to happen during this time. You can expect an update to Reality and the first beta the first week of June.
Please feel free to share this information with the public at large. I will connect from time to time to look at the forums but, for the next two weeks, I will be pretty much off-the-grid.
All the best.

Lovely renders but I must ask about the very nice "non-human" skin colour texture work. Customs or just playing with the in-studio channels ontop of pale ones? It is something I struggle with for non-human races, so much less choice in the library and I've not got the handle on tweeking the Diffuse channel as well as I'd like, or I'm using poor bases for the task. Anything you're willing share on that?

Thanks for your comments. The blue and white texture is "straight out of the box" ("Felix" from Animotions). It's just a really well done texture. I struggle with some textures and end up being disappointed with them, and then others "just work"—this is one of them. Frankly, I think if you have got a poor texture set there's little you can do about it. There's a lot of talk about shaders, HSS, and what have you, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
The green fellow, though is a standard DAZ human texture (although it's an "Elite"—"Stratton" and these are generally pretty good) and the magic is almost entirely to do with Reality/Luxrender. I don't think I ever change the surfaces settings in DAZ; I just let Reality do the conversions and play with all the settings there.
One of the nice things about Reality is that it has the "top coat" shader feature which has a colour property, and that's what I used. I think the idea of "top coat" is that it is like a glaze in ceramics. Although it doesn't have to be tinted, when it is it gives an effect that is much more subtle and attractive than changing the diffuse colour or tinting the texture directly in an image editor, plus there is a simulation of depth.
Although this looked good to me without any postwork, I cheated a bit here in Photoshop by making a copy of the background layer and blending the two with the "multiply" setting and changing the levels on the base layer only. The main effect of that was to give it that slightly metallic look and making it more contrasty. I don't pretend to any cleverness with this—I just mess about until I get something I like.
It would be really cool if they did not break plugins, but with a new file export option, I would assume the SDK had to change at least a little bit? If we're lucky, it might only require a recompile or some slight changes.
BTW, looks like the old forums went read-only a couple hours ago. Knocking on wood this transition goes well, so we can ocus on griping about missign functionality! ;)
Hey, I thought Penny was only allowed to come in if she promised to NOT be good!?!? ;)

Hi allMost of you have probably seen this from the contest over at Daz But thought I'd post for those who haven't and might be interested
Well lets give this image thing a shot
DS4pro, genesis, V4 catsuit, no postwork. Much bigger version on the link below

Here is a recent effort, using a mesh light camera left for the main, and another camera right for fill. These take many hours to render, so I am beginning to plan for a more powerful machine. I have not had any luck using GPL with Reality/LUX, but at least since giving that up the dreaded fireflies have not returned. I know I need to go through and edit many of the materials changing them from glossy to matte, etc.

Hello.
Let's start a "Reality Renders" thread here at Renderosity.
This thread is dedicated to showcasing and discussing images created with LuxRender via the Reality plug-in. We started something like this in the DAZ foums before and it has been tremendously successful. Since Reality is now sold at Renderosity it's fitting to have a place here for Reality/Lux artists to gather and "talk shop".
Talking about images made with Reality is about sharing experiences at all levels, from the new adopter to the experienced guru. Please do not feel intimidated by a possible lack of experience; this is a place for sharing and learning in a relaxed environment. We have been able to create one incredibly friendly community at the DAZ forums and hopefully we will be able to repeat the experience here.
Here are some really simple "guidelines" on what to expect here:
And so on. The above points are just suggestions, I don't make the rules :)
So, I look forward to seeing your images. Remember to subscribe to this thread so that you can get automatic notifications.
Just for your information, Reality has a strong presence on social networks:
Please Like/Follow/Circle us for updates on the plug-in, cool information about the 3D world and general Reality goodness.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your rendering engines!
