Subject: Posting Regarding Changes at Daz

KimberlyC ( ) posted Sat, 19 May 2012 at 9:40 PM · edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 9:14 AM

It seems with the changes at the Daz site are causing a stir. Because of that I feel we need to set rules on such.

It is always a hard time for members of a site when things change. But, this forum is not to bash Daz for the changes. As we have seen with a few of the recent posts, it only leads to fighting among members.  So that being said, from now on any posts bashing any site will be removed. The Daz|studio forum is here to help others with questions, tips, etc.  I'm not saying I don't understand and you want to vent, but we are starting to have problems because of it.

Thanks!

Well having a bit of insight to what's going on, part of the reason for the forums still being locked is that they are having to take extra time to get the store set up... I mean if you go through it, it's a nice set up but it doesn't remember settings like instead of 15 you choose 30 products displayed and you go back and find it reset.  Same with the "Grid" to "List" option.. won't hold.  There are THOUSANDS of products they have to get into place and make sure all the reference links are OK... then there are the forums.  What's been leaked to me is that they are actually not thrilled with the forum software that came with this setup so MAY choose to look for another software to use that's more to their liking.  They are just as frustrated as we are.  Trust me, you don't realize how much time you spend at DAZ until it's not there any more and I'm one of them!  I'm going through total withdrawls this past week!  lol

Thanks for the info RAMWolff. Would be good if one of te DAZ folks posted an update in the forums there though so everyone knew what was happening. I hope they manage to solve the problems, must be a real headache finding the foums don't do what they thought they would.

Yea, I hope that they get this figured out soon... and not DAZ SOON!  lol  I did suggest to my contact that perhaps they should put back up the old forums but the contact noted that if they did they would spend inordinate amounts of time answering questions to concerns and complaints rather than working on what needed direct attention.  So it's about being patient.  At least we have 'Rosity's forums for the time being to post to!  :-)

@ TheHalfdragon - Right, remember when we did changes here on the site. Most of the time with any site an update is good but it takes awhile for the bugs to come out and members to get use to the new way.

@RAMWolff - Thanks for the insight. Like I just said.. sadly change has issues and bugs. Daz programmers will need time to get through bugs and things they may not like.

:)

Oh, I know!!  This is awful!  I have serious OCD issues, and don't handle change well at all.  The Daz Forum has been my home for the last 5 years....and since my agoraphobia has followed into my virtual life, I'm really feeling the pinch...

Not sure if I should post here or in some other thread but I need some help with the new store. Why is it telling me my downloads are pending (Can not download them) when the  invoice says complete and I have a pending charge to my CC, and I can not download the glider that I purchased before the change over. Yes I have cleaned out all my history, cookies and temp files.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to cause a stir just figure out how to get my orders. Thanks

As usual, guess my timing is bad; but my new iClone 3DXchange 5 came with Daz pipeline, so I was dying to try it out. Registered and still have not received confirmation e-mail; purchased two products and received PayPal receipt but still no communication from Daz. I'm glad my needs are not urgent. My only suggestion would be communication, communication, communication. Five minutes of their time and a simple post somewhere would go a long way to alleviate the frustrations that many must be experiencing with the change. Facebook post led me here, so here I am -- watching and waiting!!!

I know you are trying to do what's reasonable I wouldn't like to start a fuss here however, is there a way to get info on progress, I see chohole is posting here and is posting there in the new forum so what's up and why so long I'm starting to get the jitters and I'm going through withdrawls waiting for the forum to open up. I hope this is not considered inappropiate here cause I don't know where to go, Incidently I have read the "New DAz Improvements" thread so I got some insight but it still does get me the fix I'd like (an addiction possibly needing intervention).

Thank's for understanding.

Completely agree Kimberly. I, as anyone who uses Daz  or the Daz website on a regular basis, am frustrated and saddened by the turn of events that has taken place over the last six months with Daz. However we can adapt and survive. There are plenty of people out there eager to share their knowledge about Daz, and thankfully there are the forums set up by independents and here at Renderosity, which is chock-full of knowledge and info! Also keep in mind the coordinators and moderators here are here to help you guys if you have any problems! However, that said, please stay classy, there is enough bickering in the real world, and art should be enjoyable and fun. We can all agree to disagree while voicing our opinions, but let's not fight over it.

Thanks for the updates, RAM - much appreciated. I'm concerned because a lot of the non-functionality should have been completed and tested before the cutover started. The links to Zendesk and the complete database copy/setup at the very least. It doesn't take a lot of people; it takes a lot of planning AND a detailed checklist. And a fair bit of disk space - I still remember my last major SAP/Oracle upgrade. It wasn't when the DBA said he needed 3 terabytes of additional space for the second database image - we'd planned for that. It was when he said he also needed one terabyte for the temporary offloads - which hadn't been planned. (I was AIX/Storage/Backup-Recovery Admin). And I did have the disk in reserve (past experience). (Six people total involved in the two-week process that culminated in the 24-hour outage). As to bringing the old forums back - I agree with your contact. Bad idea. Better to leave the new ones read-only -- but put some updates out in them! I personally would prefer to see the "We're working on it" lizard page up until they've got the vast majority of the issues resolved even if it does screw up their cash flow.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 9:22 AM

We do have to keep in mind that DAZ is a small company.... while I'm just as frustrated as anyone (and the withdrawls are murder to deal with! lol ) they have other things going on like software, processing merchant items for the store and now they are converting all the exe's and sit files to zips as well (I believe it's over 14,000 store items, X's that by 2 (MAC and PC) and you have allot of work spread out between a few folks.  I know, I've always mentioned to DAZ folks "You need  beta site that you can set up on your time, test thourougly, set up perfectly then it's a matter of being off line for an hour while the new site contents populate on the servers.... but they will do as they do..

Even if one of them posted an update, it might not matter.  I just tried to look at the Store Update topic and it brought me to the login...after which it brought me to the store home page...I went back to the forum from there and when I clicked on the topic I was again presented with the login...after which I was again sent to the store home page.  So that isn't working out very well.  Not only can I not post, now I cannot even read.

Got in touch with Ann and she did try to send an automated email but no luck so went with option 2 of making a temp password. Have yet to know if I can use it or not so far no reply on that matter. So I am basically in the same position I was at the start of all this.

Is that the email address I should use if my account is not letting me purchase what's in my cart?  The tab just keeps spinning . . . and still is.  :(

Once things got really hairy, I was afraid to purchase until my right name came up in my login area.  But now that my name has finally come up, it won't let me purchase.  :sigh:  What do I do?  According to the email the items expire the end of this day.  o,O

I got the $1 furniture...but I felt silly going to PayPal with just $1, so I picked up the Hilly Surround, on sale.  Order went through OK, thankfully.

I'm waiting on the M4 character...I'm still unsure if I'll get M5, it's just way too expensive for just a morph, especially with my financial situation right now.

Opinion.  Still just a morph, not a full stand-alone rigged figure, so in my opinion rather pricy.  But $30...$300, same thing to me right now, I'm broke.

It's sort of working. The forums can now be accessed and you can start topics and post replies. (Or, at least, that was the case about half an hour ago!)

There are still heaps of other problems, though, that they say they're working on.

RAMWorks ( ) posted Thu, 24 May 2012 at 10:36 AM

I wouldn't say heaps ... the forums need allot more tweaking.  Like if you reply and are set up to receive instant notifications and you click the link to take you back to the thread your taken to the top of the thread, not the newest reply... annoying but not a deal breaker.  No avatars or signature images as of yet and inline image sizes are at 800 X 800 but will eventually allow for 2000 X 2000 sized images.  It's very lively there... I think folks are willing to over look all that, just glad they have their little home back... sort of!  lol

The email notifications do actually take me to the newest post in a threads I'm subscribed to. Does it not work for anybody else? I know in the FAQs for the new forums they say it doesn't work either but it has every time for me so far. The only time it takes me to the top of the thread is right after I reply, instead of taking you to the last post.

I guess my biggest grip is that they didn't seem to learn much from former bumpy conversions. Major ecommerce sites convert all the time. It's all accomplished in a sandbox and to the public it happens seamlessly after the bugs are ironed out.

When I heard DAZ refer to this conversion as "a bit bumpy" I just want to scream, "Let's view it for the FAIL it has been and take away these hard lessons so that the next time the need to convert arises, it can go smoother."

I've no doubt that weeks from now all the issues will be worked out. In the mean time the only thing going in my cart are the freebies, because I basically expect problems with downloads and credits etc that everyone else has been posting about.
