Subject: What do I do with it?

A lot of downloads are coming with .png files now. I know this is for the thumbnail, but how the heck do I make it show in my library? Or is this just for ProPack? Can it be converted to an .rsr file for regular old Poser4? All I get is the little shrugging guy with these. I can look at the image in Photoshop, but it won't do anything in Poser. Melanie

Just Pro Pack, AFAIK. In Poser 4, just load the figure, despite the grey guy. Then remove the grey-guy figure from the library, make a nice view with the loaded figure, and re-save under the same name (or any other name you might wish). Oughta work.

Thanks for the reply. I did make my own thumb for it, but it doesn't look as finished as the png file. Oh, well. It would be helpful for those creating these downloads to include an rsr file for the thumbnail for those of us who don't have ProPack. Melanie

Well, the thing is, the .png is a replacement for the .rsr in ProPack. If you install something using an .rsr, PPP creates a .png and ignores the .rsr after you load it the first time. You can just delete the .rsr. And for new stuff you save, it just makes a .png, so you see, PPP user's CAN'T really make .rsr's. Sorry, I'm afraid they're becoming antiques, now ;)

Something you might try; Try importing the PNG as a background (if it won't load directly, convert it with a utility like the Free image manager Irfanview32), load the object, prop, whatever, & move it off-view. than re-save the file. the background, being the only thing in the view, should become the RSR view. Good Luck!

After you have opened the file in Poser, position and render it as you want it to appear. Make sure the shrugging guy is still selected and go to the bottom and click on the + sign (Add to Library). Type the name of the file as it appears under the shrugging guy and say OK. It will warn you that the file exists, just say ok and voila! You have an rsr file.

On Mac, you can use ResEdit to paste the PNG image in as a PICT resource in the CR2 (or PZ2, etc) file. This method is only recommended for ResEdit experts, though...

Melanie, if you run on a windows system, you can use the P3do-Explorer (take a look into the freestuff). Simple copy the png into the P3do choose edit rsr with right mouseclick, paste the image and save it. Ready If the colors are wrong, do it again (most after first opening the P3do) Robert

So I'm alittle confused, and I've been wanting to ask this question. If you are running Pro pack you can't create .rsr files? I finally got the hang of doing the mat files but once I was done no .rsr file was created only .png, is there a way for propack people to create them. If you've already mentioned it please forgive me, I'm just a tiny bit dense.

Im running propack and I make rsrs. But not with propack. I use the rsrconverter from freestuff. So its possible to make them and when you put a rsr in propack it automatically changes it to a .png but it doesnt effect the rsr.

Fyrene, oh yes, I already know how to do that, I've been working with Poser for several years. I've already done it with these files, but I was just wondering if there was a way to convert the png that the original artist created. Some of them look more professional than the ones I create. I tried using a render, but when I save it, it only saves it as the objects on the screen, if it's a figure, it has the transparent eyebrows (little dots) showing and such. It doesn't look like a finished image, like some I've seen. Melanie

Try it with the rsrconverter , just change the png to a pct file then the converter changes it to a rsr. Hope that helps
