Subject: Zbrush to Poser materials

amstar ( ) posted Sun, 13 May 2012 at 11:22 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 7:07 AM

Hi there,

been playing with sculpting and in zbrush and attempting to export a model to Poser, but I can't work out how to carry over material groups?

The closest I've found is exporting the polygroups and then manually assigning materials to the groups inside Poser?

Is there a way to directly have Poser recognsize Zbrush material groups? Also is it the same work flow for DazStudio?

thanks in advance :)

First - ZBrush doesn't make material groups. You can paint polygons with materials but you can't group them the way you would in say, UVMapper, as ZBrush does NOT have a way to name groups.

Second - the MatCaps in ZBrush don't translate to other applications. Many applications support ZBrush's PolyPaint feature - where you assign a COLOR to a polygon - but the MatCaps are NOT transferable.

Hope that helped.

thanks, right the only way is to bake matcaps

apparently zbrush does recognize existing material groups but you can't create material groups inside of zbrush

so the only way is to manually assign materials to groups inside Poser

is this how all the poser merchants do this??

I don't have Zbrush, but part of the answer you are looking for can be found here
