Well, the thread by Connie has gone, so it looks like someone said somting while I was asleep.

Never mind, another interesting thread that could have been of use was taken off topic to the extent of having it removed.

Perhaps, in future we need to keep on topic and not allow the side tracker to do their usual work of getting threads locked or removed when it does not go their way.

Sorry to see the thread go Connie, it would have been an interesting thread to follow.

All the best.

Last I read it was on final warning, then the OP said the mods should just go for it and lock the thread...

...glad I bookmarked that baby figure site link someone gave me before the thread was blocked.

It's perhaps a shame that a thread can't be locked without being taken down altogether;

e.g. just the problem posts excluded with an advisory message in their place... or just lock the thread so it can't be further posted to, but what has been posted up to that point could still be read.

However, I guess it's not just an issue of site functionality there... doing it the above way would also, I'm sure, represent a vastly increased, likely untenable, administrative burden?

But, conversely, the problem with a locked thread being entirely removed from view is that unscrupulous individuals can effectively censor a thread they don't like, by introducing something that forces the mods to lock it.

Cheers ;-)

Someone once said that there would be no peace in the Middle East as long as anyone with a hand grenade could exercise veto power. That's pretty much the case here. Anyone can get a thread removed by hurling a couple of bombs. It's guaranteed that someone else will retaliate and that's all she wrote. For some reason, the moderators are disinclined to simply delete the offending posts - or better yet boot the worst offenders. There's usually some rational and interesting commentary in any thread but it gets lost - off to the vaults. It's like in the days when the cops had the best porn because they confiscated it - OK, mediocre porn in this case but nonetheless. This one will probably get deleted as well so I suggest you stay up and monitor it.

I doubt this will get locked, unles the usual things get said.

I don't know about the mods deleting posts etc. but sometimes it does seem that would be the answer, but....

There are only so many mods about at any one time, so things will always remain up and ready for retaliation posts.

I think it's a kind of balance that needs to be kept to.

It just seems as if we get a thread that could be of use to the Poser community, but then, well we know what happens, people forget that the OP states that it is about Poser only etc. and has to bring in other software that is not Poser.

Now if the OP says it's about any software etc. then great, bring everything in to it, Vue, Bryce or whatever, but if it is stated that it is for Poser, then it's not hard to keep it Poser based.

So, the next time a thread comes up for the Poser community to discuss something as simple as a possible new Poser mainstream charcter. then could we please keep it to what the OP wanted.

If those that want to take it OT are not given replies that inflame the situation, and we just say, could you please keep it on topic, then those that continue will be shown for what they are.

There are talanted people out there that want to do things that benefit the Poser community, but are being put off from doing so. To those people I say, go ahead with your threads, there are like minded people out there that want to join in your thread, put ideas and options together. Don't let those that want to side track you defeat what you want to do.

All the best.

I read the Guardian online. Lots of very strong feelings and debates over religion, politics, sex, you name it. Lots of moderation. But mods delete individual posts, along with any that specifically reply to those posts, and leave only a note that a post violated community standards. The threads go on for the most part. Of course, they likely have more moderators, but they also have the ability to lock a thread temporarily, say, overnight while a moderator sleeps. Amazing. But I guess it's not trivial to code something like that.

Stop the whining, dude.

The thread was locked because ConnieCat wanted it locked.

On basicwiz request I took the high road and stopped replying so you and the other Poser acolytes could have your little "DAZ is so evil and wicked we can't even mention it any more" discussion just for yourself.

So,if anything got deleted, it wasnt because of me.

Stop the baiting or "I" will start complaining behind your back to the mods, too. There's two who can play that game, younno ?

DAZ won't go away anytime soon and neither will Genesis.

What kind of fantasy la-la-land do you live in ?

The only people responsible for the mess we are now in are those working for Smith Micro, not DAZ.

You can discuss your little plans about a "new mainstream" Poser figure till the cows come home, it all will lead to nothing as long as right next door people can find a better alternative for free.

I'm rooting for better Poser figures for 12 years now andI would be the first person screaming "HERE" to support them if I'd feel they had an actual chance to compete with Genesis.

But anything Smith Micro or anybody else could do now would be too little to late.

They had 12 years time to"free Poser" and they blew it again and again.

Stomping your feet like a three year old and "wishing DAZ away" won't fix what's been done.

No,it isnt. It's what is called to have a discussion.

"I have no other comments to make about it as I'm not going to get this thread locked or whatever."

Same here. But I already said my piece, and I'm not interresting in proselytizing and "spread the word of DAZ", so if you think you need a new Poser only discussion, please and by all means have at it. I won't take part in it.

Just keep the vitriol-o-meter down a notch or two.

Remember, I'm not even a DAZ user. Just installed it to check Genesis in Poser.

Oh, and loose the neighbourhood-watch act.

It's a good point / suggestion regarding the functionality being that the thread is taken offline until a mod can lock/hide individual posts.

Technically it would not be trivial to introduce that functionality... assuming it's not latently available in the Content Management System (CMS) already being used by the site, or available via a pre-existing plug-in for that particular CMS.

Even if there was a ready-made means to do it, it would be unlikely to be trivial.

However technicalities aside, I suspect it would create far too much work... and place an unfair extent of responsibility, for making micro-judgements on individual posts, upon the moderators.

The latter is probably more at issue here, I would guess?

cheers ;-)

It is strange how those that complain about free speech are the same individuals that continue to post after numerous warnings knowing that the end result will be the thread will be locked and thus ending any free speech. ย (Not my fault I only...as I have so many times before)

To claim you are unbiased when you post lines suggesting the Poser world should put pressure on SM to have the stupid 'G' figure work in Poser highlights the lie. ย The agenda isn't even hidden in this case. ย

I enjoyed the other thread while it was on topic, I did not add to it as I could see where it was going. ย I accept the moderators have a difficult job but most poeple knew where this was going within the first couple of pages and thus true Poser people are robbed once more. ย I guess I will be accused of bias but there is even a sticky here stating the the case quite clearly. ย

I have posted here as I feel I have been robbed of another conversation that could have been interesting, yet again. ย I will make no further comment as I do not want to be part of any stupid flame war.

It's just a pity, when there is some interesting debate / discussion, in amongst the maybe lesser quality stuff (subjective as to what that might constitute of course) that the whole thread is lost...

...I kind of wondered if the originator appreciated that by asking for the thread to be locked, access to refer to it would be lost for all interested parties...

I think they were on Content Paradise when first released. If you haven't already done so, check out the animations of them on the Cubed site. The animations are excellent IMHO and really sell ' this is a baby, not a scaled down adult' .

I'll certainly let you know if and when I make any progress... currently I'm at the early stages of learning to use ZBrush and indeed do any kind of modelling!

But I'd like eventually to do a baby character and a new dog character too... since I have life reference models for both handy, for one thing.

This is my lofty ambition on this front anyway... LOL

I'm thinking I'd make character morph injections for the existing MilBaby3 and MilDog by the way... at this point! But, you never know where it'll lead I guess...

As the comment by Connie to stop the thread came about while I was sleeping, I couldn't have know what happened.

By asking a question about it is common sense to me, as others will have also popped into the forum this morning and wondered where it went.

I logged shortly out after posting the cubed link, soย I don't know what went on after that. I agree that it is a pityย whenever good information is lost.

If another similar thread comes up perhaps if there was no baiting from one point of view, then those who feel differently wouldn't feel obliged to respond. We all know when we are posting something derogatory, whether that is about another user, or another company or its products.

I don't think we are going to change each others minds, other than in a negative way, so perhaps we can agree to disagree, and not keep raking the coals and reigniting the flames, as it were.ย  Please note I am carefully avoiding naming anyone, or either side in the argument.

I think we also should consider how theseย fightsย makes us look ( and I include myself ) to other users and visitors to the site, and how it makes Rendorosity look. Also the hard work and stress it creates for the mods and admins.

My motivation here is simply to learn some new skills, have fun playing with the various applications and hopefully end up with some additional / enhanced content for my own renders... along the lines that I have ideas for images...

Making my own images, for my own satisfaction, is my core motivation... and having cool stuff to play around with. Its an entirely self indulgent thing in essence...

You know, the first thing that I noticed about ZBrush, was how, in its UI metaphor / philosophy (or whatever you'd call it) it seems to consider a mesh, even a fully formed figure mesh, simply no more than a tool... a "brush"... of sorts.

I found that an interesting thing to contemplate...

The locking of that thread was no great "Loss" as its purpose served nothing beyond the usual soul searching ,virtual group therapy "pity party" this place has becomeย  of late over having its comfortable little paradigm shifted slightly.

Was it a product suggestion thread for Smith micro?
No because the Official Poser Forum resides over at RDNA where Steve Copper hangs out.

IMHO That entire discussion was Moot because smith micro will lumber forward with whatever poser native figures they feel are "sufficient" and the loyalists over at RDNA,"Poser place" and others will swallow hard and cheer them on for good of their communities.

There will be no "rescue" ..no "Miracle"..No "Super figure" for poser pro 2012, that will be the technological equivalent of Genesis.

Hexagon and Silo are my modellers of choice.ย  Just personal preference - tried Blender and ran away bald on one side of my head after tearing my hair out.

With Sculptris, I can't get the pen on tablet + turn to get a smooth crease.ย  Because the turn stops halfway through, the crease ends up with a crease inside a crease.

Practice, practice, practice.

I had one of my threads sent there before and after pm'img a coordinator they were nice enough to put it back in the regular Poser forum. So if anyone thinks the thread has merit you might try that.

When I first check the forum that day it was already at 6 pages. I was amazed to see it had also been started that same day.

He he... the quasi-rhythmic "tapping" on the silencer pads actually annoys the hell out of her even more than the full on volume... I had an electronic kit before. Still couldn't play that when the wife wasn't out.

Note: quasi-rhythmic is a deliberate allusion toards my overall level of ability there...

LOL

It's a losing battle I feel... for now. Fortunately I seem to somehow be okay with the scratching of pressure-sensitive pen on tablet.

I just have to remember not to try and tap out a rythymn with it. LOL

By the request of a number of level-headed forum users, I have, indeed, cleaned the thread and reposted it. I trust I will not have to do further moderation on it. That would REALLY make me unhappy.

Many thanks Basicwiz - your efforts are much appreciated on my part certainly ๐Ÿ˜„

Do the words "Back Hoe" have any context here?

Quote - I've been enjoying playing with Sculptris... and this inspired me now to get ZBrush. I couldn't really afford it. But I got impatient... I will have to sell some of my other stuff now to cover the cost of it I guess. My wife has suggested the drumkit is the best candidate... I don't know why ๐Ÿ˜‰

I end up using mouse and pen tablet at the same time... he he. I have gotten out of practice with using a pen / pencil to draw with... although modelling with it is a different matter again really...

...good fun though. I think I'll get decent results out of it in due course. As someone who worked with charcoal and paper, then oil and canvas, in a previous life, I think I find it more intuitive, in some ways than tweaking vertices...

...although I've been quite enjoying that stuff too. I think an understanding of polygon modelling with more traditional modellers (I've been learning with Hexagon... and now Wings) is important to have. So I certainly won't neglect that...

๐Ÿ˜„

I'm just starting out with ZBrush too. There are so many possibilities its a bit mind blowing but great fun.

At the moment I'm also using a mouse and a pen tablet at the same time. lol I think a traditional modeller, Poser and ZBrush are a great combination. ๐Ÿ˜„

GoZ is being integrated into Poser currently too, according to thinkcoop, in a recent thread...

...I think folk use PML (I'm not even sure what that stands for) at present??

PML = Poser Morph Loader.

All the best.
