Subject: Make V4 shoes work with V3

skogzort ( ) posted Fri, 06 July 2012 at 4:38 PM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 11:44 PM

Hello,

I can use 3DS Max a bit, but I’m

pretty inexperienced with Poser. I’m looking for methods to make some conforming V4 shoes work with V3 figure. I have very little idea how to do this.

I thought about exporting both the shoes and V3 model into MAX, then chopping off the feet and replacing them with the shoes, but I don’t know how to get this back into Poser in a way that will work with Poses.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help is greatly appreciated – Thanks Much

easiest way is to export the shoes as an obj file, edit it so you have two obj. Import each to Poser and save as a prop. You can then parent them to the figures feet.

A conforming figure uses the same joint parameters as the figure it conforms to so its a major step to try to change that.

v3 default had flat feet. V4 default has bent down feet. This may cause some trouble

your best bet as markschum mentioned, is export the L and R foot as objects and then reimport

your original idea will cause massive amounts of headaches, it will break morphs, morph injections, maps and on and on.  It can be done, but in general, you don't want to.

You can also try the various automatic clothing conversion programs such as WardrobeWizard and Crossdresser

Thanks everyone for the help –

I got want I wanted, by experimenting and partially fallowing a tutorial for paints. This is what I did. I ended up with two figures: r shoe and l shoe – but they do conform to the figure I want and work well:

  1. Start with shoes from another model – had to do one shoe at a time - move them until one fits the model I want to use them on, export it as OBJ: only the one shoe, only options: weld body part seams
  2. Open new empty scene, import the OBJ back into Poser: un-check all options
  3. With the shoe selected, open the setup tab, open library window, find the model you want to use the shoe on and double click it – a pop up will ask you if you want to automatically group the geometry. Select yes.
  4. Delete all the bones except for the shin down – go back to Pose tab and save the shoe as a figure
  5. Do the same for the other shoe

cheers
