Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

I noticed that Paolo has been quiet since he returned from his holiday. Maybe he is too busy planning his next one to do anything related with Reality :)

Yeah, Paolo is very quiet... so he must be coding, right? ;)

Where can I read the rules about posting to the galleries. Which gallery here do you all post to?  With Paolo so close, I might have to post something.  Does he have until the end of the month to get to number one?

Well, I think you should post in the Daz gallery, but more important is to credit Paolo using the credit option provided when uploading an image :)

I think the number of credits are calculated weekly, or calculated regarding the past week every day.

Ah, a nice, BIG scene! Bravo! What did you happen to use for the buildings, Doc? I don't think I've seen either of these in action before. Kitbashed?

Yeah, think I got the hang of it :)

The one on the left is from CityStreets, right bottom from The Central District Subway, modified by John so I could put The Office Foyer on top.

Unbelievable! We are #2 in the Renderosity Art Charts. Thank you again for your amazing support. If you keep [ posting your renders](http://preta3d.com/blog/2012/06/26/help-us-make-reality-the-number-one-product-at-renderosity/) we might get there to the top!

Remember that you need to credit Reality using the special field in the submission form, simply adding "Reality" to the description does not count for the Art Charts.

See this article for the instructions on how to do it.

Thank you again, you are the best!

I'm not happy with Western Digital right now - the only drive I didn't have in raid has died today, which happens to be the drive used for my runtime.  Now got a mirror raid set with 2 drives but I have the very long process of re-installing all my content (properly this time!).  Just finished all the content that comes with metadata, time for the rest...

This may take a while, I like the smart content system so all my later stuff was manually setup with metadata, gonna be a long few nights!

Paulo, congrats on #2, when I take a break from installs I'll upload some more renders to try and bump Reality to #1 where it should be!

Nice, I like the theme, pose and the hair. personally I would add a different background and play with the textures/settings such as bump and spec quite a bit more to make it more alive.

man, I learned my lesson years ago on that one. took my PC into CompUSA to have a new Mobo and HD installed. Was very specific about not touching my secondary drive as it had 4000 mp3s on it as well as some design files. When I got it back, my secondary drive was bare, wiped clean. I caused such a scene at the store after that the police had to restrain me so I didn't kill the so called tech, LOL.

Abi.

Another watercooler! Got a radiator as big as a shoebox on the back of my rig when I built 'er--geez--almost two years ago. Where does time go?!

Anyway, I can't reccomend it enough. 38*C at full load with an ambient room temp of 85 in the summer. Can't beat that!

While on the subject of PC's, if anyone is ever in the market to do upgrades or repair, I'd highly reccomend just doing it yourself (aside from hard drive internals). It's so easy I have no idea why some go to the 'geek squad' or equivalent. The hardest thing is setting up water cooling, and a close second is getting the wafer-thin coating between CPU and mobo, but even that isn't the big fearmonger that people make it out to be. Everything else is just connecting wires and following directions!  Save your money on a bulk-built system and go full custom. You'll get the best components for the same price as an off-the-shelf walmart special.

A notebook for this is not a wise choice especially after getting into LUX & rendering day & night. I knew this was coming. Good thing is I have a 2 year plan so with HP I will be able to send it in as often as needed (which I am hoping is not too many) and if some reason I cant afford a nice cooled tower after 2 years just buy another year on the warranty...

A couple of easy changes can add some effect to the scene: convert the chalice and the buttons to metal, make them quite shiny. Also, the lighting would benefit from being "toned down" a bit. The lighting looks moders, lots of soft light but that was not possible in the period for the character. I would go do a small meshlight, set to 4000K color temperature and on the side of the character. That would recall a bit of the candle/torch lighting of the period. You could then add some more diffuse lighting to bring out the background.

Just my opinion, of course :)

Cheers.

Paolo, did you mean the temperature on the reality render settings, or the black body temperature in the lux controls?  I did have the buttons and goblet set as metal, but I increased the polish. I also upped the bump and displacement maps.  It's running now, so hopefully it will look better.  Thank you for all the help.

They are the same thing except that it's better to do it in Reality because you can do it on a light-by-light basis. The controls in Lux are per light group. Also, it's better to do it in Reality because the value becomes part of the scene. If you enter the color temperature in Lxu then you need to remember to re-do it every time you render that scene.

Quote - I did have the buttons and goblet set as metal, but I increased the polish.

I suspected so but I wasn't sure. To get metal to show really as metal you need to get the polish past 8000. I often got up to 9200-9500, depending on the material and the lighting.

Cheers.

This one is from a few months ago.  Still needs work: a different dress, a different chair, a different hair, but I don't know if I'll ever get back to it.  But I do very much like the way Lux handled the light through the window.

Credit given to Pret-a-3D.
