Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Quote - With postwork, IMO it depends on the look you are going for. If you want a style of render that uses postwork in real life, then for an accurate result, postwork is almost a requirement.

I think so but nothing drastic just monor stuff and certainly does not alter the overall render... My Queued lux jammed ovelight (sadface)

Any newer weekly builds?

Newest overnight render.  And yes.. some serious post work involved.  Wanted to speed up my work flow so the background and floor were done in PS

I, also, originally thought her armpits were messed up when I saw the fully-baked render.  Pulled up the original saved scene and she's just a really freakishly skinny girl.

Another one from last year to help bump Paolo up the list.  A B&W study that has a couple of other angles that will posted in the next couple of days.

Since it's being discussed, no postwork on this one other than adding the copyright.

EDIT: Actually, I lied.  I changed the amount of negative space on both sides of the subject in GIMP.  Now that I see it posted here, I'm not so sure it works optimally and optically.  Gonna have to play with that a bit more.

What's the technique, or is it an item, that creates a seamless background, as if the figure was standing on a huge seamless piece of paper attached at the ceiling, going down the wall and along the floor all the way to the camera?

Bob, does she have her seatbelt on?

I use a set called Infinity Cove 2, the paper roll is a curved floor that wraps upwards into a wall.

Hope this helps,

Abi.

You need to use a prop that is curved, like a seamless photographer's BG.

There's a freebie that does such. In the mean time, you can also enclose your scene in a cylinder and keep the camera angle above the floor. If you use a primitive, make sure the shape has adequate roundness (say 50 segments) and subdivide to your heart's content. In Reality, set it to matte white and away you go.

I'll check my runtime for the name of that prop, but it was free, that much I do recall.

On the cylinder idea, it just occured to me that you could flip it horizontal and scale the bejesus out of it to make the edge issue go away. Win win either way

Doctorjellybean ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2012 at 4:57 AM

Paolo didn't explain that? Tut tut .... :)  Here is how:

  1. Right click on any of his lights, etc, and select Create Custom Action

  2. Go to Window - Workspace and click Customize

  3. Expand the Custom section in Actions, right-click the entry you added and select Change Icon

  4. Once you have selected the icon, select Toolbars in the right section, then drag the  custom action you have added over to one of the toolbars you use often. You can create your own Toolbar if you like.

  5. Click Accept, and it's done.

LuxRender compatible replacement water plane for El_Lee_victorian-era-inspired-tub_67105.

As promised here's a link to the .obj file I made for the tub:

http://www.erikleeman.com/ZIP/LuxRender_water_surface.zip

Original file: "El_Lee_victorian-inspired-bathtub-add-on-faucet-and-water-plane_67135"

Artist Elisa S. "El Lee" Royo Of Rebel Clan Studios™ LTD. Copyright January 2012©

Do not use the original water plane (that comes with the tub) in combination with pret-a-3D Reality/LuxRender.

Notes:

When I merge El Lee's tub from the DAZ Studio content library onto the stage it has the following default parameters:

ytran -77.36 yrot 90.00 scale 30.0%

I adjusted the new water plane .obj to fit the tub in this position and size, so it can be easily parented to the tub.

Happy rendering!

Erik

Flesh Forge did a simple backdrop

http://www.sharecg.com/v/46973/gallery/11/Poser/Simple-Backdrop-Prop

I tend to make a lot of use of Hellboy's (link provided earlier) prop as well.

Sometimes in real life studios, you will have some high power lights targeted at the backdrop by barn doors to "blow out" the imperfections and creases in the paper and it will show as a perfect white background.

That uses Soto's posing background with a Normal map applied to it.

That sheet is great, I like the effect alot.  I can think of a few fun things to do with it, besides a background.

The posts by john3d and Doc got me poking around, trying to create a custom tab for the Reality Light tools.  Doc, you specifically mentioned that one can create a toolbar, but no matter what I did, I couldn't figure it out, despite following your directions and messing around with the Customize feature.  Specifically, I'm looking to add all of the Reality tools as a toolbar or menu item as shown.

TIA.

Btw, you don't need to add a toolbar to get the tools like I did.

If I remember well:

  • Open the Reality add-on folder in the Content Manager

  • Right click on a tool, like the mesh light

  • Select "Create Custom Action"

  • Press F3 to call the Customize dialog

  • In the left panel select "Custom" and click on the disclosure triangle to show the items

  • Select the Mesh light, it has no icon

  • Right click on it and select "Change Icon..."

  • Navigate on disk where the Mesh ligth is and select the .PNG file of its icon

  • With the Mesh ligth selected Click on "Tool Bars" in the right pane

  • Open the Create entry, should be the third from the top.

  • From the Left pane drag and drop the Mesh light into the toolbar selected in the right pane, I dropped it over the separator after "New camera"

  • Press the "Accept" button and you're done.

  • Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Hope this helps

I need to create an effect, but don't know how to do it.

When in a cinema, or watching TV, the reflection of the screen is visible on the walls, glass, etc. Now I want to create the same effect inside a cinema, where the screen is reflected on the walls.

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2012 at 2:52 PM

Doc, use a Spotlight and attach a texture to it. Reality will turn it into a projector. Point the spotlight to a plane that is almost pure white, 200,200,200 should be OK, and see if that works. The projector should cause the light to bounce off the screen and being picked up by the surrounding environment.

Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply Russ. No, there isn't a specific GND for genesis, but you really don't need one. nearly any V4 morph will work on genesis with GenX and the V4 body shapes. Two purchases and you can use all your V4 content on genesis, morphs, textures, clothes, pretty sweet deal IMO.

Are your walls matte? (Obviously, the screen is going to light the room up no matter what with GI.) Are you after the effect shown in this image?

That's actually a specular highlight, or a blurred reflection. (they're the same thing in Lux [and real life]). The disadvantage of the matte material is you don't get these, you get the result on the left. You need to use a pretty rough glossy material, with a specular color of maybe 50 or so. (That would be equal to an IOR of about 1.45-1.5).

Btw, that image came from this thread on CGTalk, which should be required reading for operating an unbiased renderer. ;) http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=21&t=650761f=21&t=650761
