Subject: GND4 pulled from the marketplace.

I am too slow, heh.

The morph only needs to be active on frame 1 of the sim before it's started. You can dail it back to 0 sometime in the simulation, and it works just fine, or you can go in and dail it back after the simulation ends. Either works just fine.

This shows it off even better.

Notes: this is Blackhearted's head morph, but I manipulated the eyes a little. Skin maps are not his. Otherwise, this is all bh.

Tips for the Cloth Room:

You can make more than one Dynamic Group. By making a second one and adding the straps to it, you can give it completely different cloth parameters than the body. (If you wanted the main cloth area to be stretchy or floaty, but the straps to have different properties, you can do that!)

I like to bump up the Collision Offset to be larger than the Collision Depth. An additional 0.1 is good in this case.

I'm going to do some sims with different cloth paramaters and post them.

For silk (which I suspect is what most people will want to approximate with this garment), you want to keep a fairly high shear resistance. Silk is a very long-staple fiber, and the threads spun from it tend to be strong and very lustrous. Dupioni, shantung, tussah, and especially noil are all shorter silks, but because of the shorter staple, the yarns (and thus fabrics) are usually thicker, negating the effect of the loss of strength in the fiber. The shear resistance doesn't have to be cranked quite so high as I have it, but  you want to be careful going very low with it.

operaguy ( ) posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 10:11 PM

what does "shear resistance" actually mean? I thought it meant resistance to tearing.I usually set it to 500.

Zaarin ( ) posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 10:12 PM

Thanks for all that great info, Hana-Hanabi. You should create a thread with settings for non-silk fabrics--you seem to have a great knowledge of cloth, and getting the right drape settings can sometimes be trying. :)

Shear resistance is hard to explain. Shearing is different from folding, but similar. Smith Micro defines it as "how much the cloth tends to retain its shape as it folds." I think of it as more the resistance to buckling or crinkling.

The picture above is all the base settings that come with the chemise, save for the Shear Resistance, which I have set to 1. It surprisingly doesn't look all that bad, but when you compare it to the base settings above, you can see that the folds are less defined...they start to buckle and crumple in places.

Zaarin, I might do that one of these days...I spin, knit, and sew IRL, so I kind of soak up fiber knowledge, ehehehe. I'll have to do lots of tests with parameter combinations, though. All scientific-like. ^_~

So cool to have extensive experience in actual hands on work with fabrics and then learning the ins and outs of the 3D applications of fabrics and transfering real world skills and experience to the software. Enviable skills. I am so jealous. ;)

After years of using Poser I am still having problems trying to figure out magnets or adding a second Runtime Folder without garnering the ire of some frustrated otherwise helpful folks in the community, never mind learning the cloth room. Now having recently migrated from Poser4 to Poser 7 the idea of getting through this cloth dynamics makes me break out in a cold sweat.   I am going to have to mark this thread as urgent and output it as a pdf file to print later for reference if and when I do try learning it  You made it sound this aspect of it easy. :(

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 21 July 2012 at 5:59 PM

very cool -- thank you so much Hana.  i learned a lot about cloth :)

for the cloth room savvy, youll notice that the nipples are a constrained group. this is the best way ive found to hold the cloth in place on the breasts and eliminate the 'breats bags' underneath them without having to bump up the elasticity and thus 'iron out' the wrinkles. the downside is in some extreme sims you may get some wrinkling around the nipples: this is easily fixed by using the morphing tool set to smooth (use a high number like 3.0 or 4.0).

btw - those of you using gamma correction are going to have to tweak the transparency settings of the chemise.

cheers,

-Gabriel

OK, I'll just whack myself across the back of the head later if I missed something simple, but wanted to get the Anastasia update.   Purchased the original already in the Marketplace, and tried what was said about re-downloading/re-installing, but the website wouldn't allow this (something I've never had a problem with over on smithmicro or daz), and email to the contact there resulted in a 'huh?'.   So, can anyone point out where this went wrong?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2012 at 5:25 AM

heya,

the update is for The Girl Next Door 4: Athletic (vicky4).

GND: Anastasia is a completely different character, for Alyson 2.  shell be getting an update too though very soon :)

Hi Laurie!

????What's a PITA????

I have only downloaded it once when I first bought the original. Never until now having gotten the update notice in the mail yesterday tried to download it again. That is why I found it strange.

I did email sales to see what the deal is though. Thanks Inspired_Art.

Yeah....that seems to be the current philosophy in everything in our society no different on-line.

If you must update something (Like what DAZ has done for instance), please make sure it actually works before you make it ready for the consumer. My experience there really sucks of late and I was always ok with what DAZ did.

"If you must update something (Like what DAZ has done for instance), please make sure it actually works before you make it ready for the consumer. "

it has always been like that - three downloads and then you need to request a download reset.

i havent bought anything from Daz in eons but im pretty sure its like that there too.

shante ( ) posted Sun, 12 August 2012 at 7:06 PM

OK......but it still is a fact I have only downloaded once when the first version of GND and her Bikini were first purchased. THis is an UPDATED version which means it should have already been RESET. And I have not yet been able to DL it. Not three times but barely twice...if we can count the original DL of the original older version of the product.

If you use a download resumer or speeder it may have made several attempts without you knowing it - thus using up your alottment. That is one of the reasons most sites discourage download utilities like that
