Subject: Is there a 3D hair mesh like this (for Poser)

I don't know what this style is called.  It is worn by young men with anti-social attitudes, or so popular culture informs me.  It is probably from the mid-20th Century.

Please don't laugh at my miserable sketch using a mouse.

The hair in the front is rolled into some type of gravity-defying missile-shaped protrusion.  The back is a "ducktail", below collar length.  Prominent sideburns may also be worn.

I am looking for a 3D mesh version for use in Poser.

I believe what you are referring to is a "Jellyroll." It was, as memory serves, made popular by Elvis Presley in the mid 50's.

And no... I have never seen one for Poser.

OK, thanks.

The variation on this is called the DA (Ducks Ass) because the trailing end is supposed to be fanned out and split in the middle for that style.

ROFL. I had forgotten that one. Lord, wasn't it a long time ago? I feel so old!

A pompadour is what it's called actually ;). Do a search for pompadour on Google. There's Elvis! LOL

Quiff, I think.

Yep, quiff in the UK, pompadour in the US (and elsewhere, I guess).

Thanks so much for the clarification !  I was confused by the terminology, not realising that the British speak a different language from folks in the US of A (heh heh ).

I had in fact done a Google search, and was puzzled by the terms.

I came across the term "Rockabilly" as well.  I think that's also part of the genre.

Most likely because it was Elvis that made the pompadour wildly popular in the US...lolol. Jerry Lee Lewis had one as well, albeit a curly one ;). After awhile most 50's and early 60's rockers had one at one time or another - Jan and Dean, Fabian, etc. Even now they are still popular in the US (a la James Franco), just not as exaggerated as the 50's styles.

As George Bernard Shaw so aptly put it: "The British and the Americans are one people, separated by a common tongue."

Ali's Hair 85 is the closest I've seen to this.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 19 August 2012 at 6:25 PM

This one is more of a Pompadour. You don't need to do the beard. I have this hair ;).

Nice find LaurieA.

How about this "do" from the film Kamakaze Girls?

Dude from the stray cats had a pretty cool DA... should be pretty easy to make a non layered hair prop of this style... especially considering the amount of pomade that went with it. Could be like one of those early poser hair props, untextured, toonish, and plasticky.

infinity10 ( ) posted Sun, 19 August 2012 at 8:32 PM

yep

Just had to get the genre and style right before attempting a Poser scene

Plasticky .... even in real life, what with all the hair gel that goes into the front piece.

Oh ! which cartoon character has this style - Johnny something.  Mummy's Boy and a big brother to neighbourhood kids.

That was Johnny Bravo ;)

Ah yes, Johnny Bravo !

But.... Now I think some in-genre poses would be cool and appropriate. More research !  The combing-hair pose by The Fonz....

This is the best rock'n'roll quiff I've seen.

It's dynamic hair (works brilliantly in animations) and it's free!

infinity10 ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 6:59 AM

@CaptainMARC - didn't occur to me that that one was a rolled gelled missile-shaped frontpiece, but right-o, shall have to check it out.  Thank ye.

Here's a quick render with Raoulhair

@Marcus_2000

Thanks ! Raoul Hair, noted.  I will check for morphs in the front and back, or else may need to apply magnets to adjust.  Bigger pompadour in the front is more,... manly, or whatever. Heh heh.
