It's summer, so I really would be at the beach right now :)

IBL from hdrlabs.com

"Just a quickie"  bah.. nauseating.  That would take me a couple hours to set up and all day to render to that quality.  I'm booking a flight to the netherlands and I'm going to hijack your creative flow and computer.  Love the render though.

What a tragedy!

Ahh.. I thought that was Tony that did prometheus.  Big fan of both of them though.  Very creative pair.  Ridley's directed some of my all-time favorite movies as well as directing Numb3rs which was my favorite tv series of all time.

lol Thanks :) Took me 40 minutes to set it up. There is only a V4 with pants, and a bridge, so not much to 'set up' anyway. Most time was spend choosing her pose and camera angle. I did try 3 different IBLs also. Added a sun and voila!

After the two hour render the image was just over 400 S/p and had still some noise so I made it smaller to eliminate visual noise. So not much of a 'creative flow' :P

LOL not all at the same time. Each queued in 2 hour sequences. Brilliant feature if you asked me. Reggie was kind enough to turn me onto it... How else would I already be closing in on 700 renders since late feb!

Maybe the wrong pants for summer though? Not complaining, I love it :)

Never liked those pants, the way they are cut makes Vickies hips look wide, but your pose makes it work

Quote - just a side thought too.. i was doing some searching the other day for info/news revolving around 3.0.  saw the google listings for the "new" Reality 3.0 on several torrent sites.  Never went to investigate but thought to myself "there's a boatload of noobs that are going to be downloading a rar file packed full of virii."

NICE! While i would never engineer that, I would advocate it. Serves them right being scum and using illegal torrent sites.

I helped a friend model a commercial addon for a game, took us over 6 months to get it ready with a reasonable $26 price tag. Day after release was on the torrent sites. He stopped modeling after that and dropped out of the community, couldn't blame him. Since it usually takes someone to "share" the initial seed upload, I wished i could have known who it was as I had all kinds of ways to inflict discomfort upon him.

Ha Mikey going nuts! Morning bro! I just sold another commish project any new genesis shoes you can suggest?

OT- I am torn about updating to 4.5 We have Charley & the Good Doctor here assuring us that it pretty well runs ok and being a tight nit group I value your opinions.

Then there is some really big problems with folks over at the DS forum...

Morning Bob, just getting caught up on the thread, LOL.

I don't plan to update to 4.5 for 2 simple reasons. One, no Reality so I can't render. Two, genX isn't compatible yet, so I would be working with a less than perfect genesis. I know there are workarounds, but I'd rather skip the hassle. No problem, I can wait like I always do.

Reality for 4.5 is going to be out today or maybe tomorrow. I bought Gen X never really got around to using it I am still ok with using both 4th Gen & Genesis figures. I use genesis to face gen existing ppl for the most part or I will just dial a made up character.. Like you guys I have hoards of content / characters. I also like the way Reality/ Lux can breathe life into what would be a lame flat looking older prop.

Just playing with 4.5 and found some issues...

If you are using a V4 that has her scaling altered, any figure hair does not fit correctly.

Prop hair is OK. Will now need to look at alternative hairs for some characters.

Well that does it I will hold off since all my stuff is scaled... Sides not super biggie since I use Lux to render

I think it's when you use part scaling, say just scaling the y-axis of the chest by 90%, the overall V4 scaling stays at 100%.

bobvan ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 1:07 PM

Ha do me a favor and scale the whole figure down to 10% and let me know if it or anything else gets whacky? Mind you worse case scenario I can always revert back to 4.37.... and current version of Reality just got to make sure that I back up my scenes and Reality file

Reggie68 ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 1:19 PM

If you scale the whole figure, it's fine. When you scale a body part, say chest or hip, it magnifies the effect of the scaling on the bones of the hair figure.

If you scale your V4 chest to 90%, the hair appears as though it has scaled to 80% and is smaller.

As are well familiar with my vitual series I scale the whole figure other then that, how are you finding 4.5 overall??

That is quite shocking. I've always been a fan of Tony's. Anything he was involved with became an action bonanza with smart directing. Although my favorites of his were the shorts he did for BMW with Clive Owen in the early 2000s. You can still find them floating around the web.

RIP Tony Scott. WTH were you thinking?

Did he not direct Numbers with Ridley? I used to watch that show..

Reggie68 ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 1:49 PM

Just found what's happening, it's like it's down-scaling the hair twice. If I scale the V4 chest to 90%, then I have to scale the chest bone of the hair figure to 111.11% to compensate.

4.5RC versions were OK with body part scaling and hairs.

Not done much with DS4.5 as I was messing with that swimming pool which has been done in Hexagon & DS3. Also been converting characters to Perfect V4s also using DS3, they look really fit...

I did have a problem with the earlier RC where the Nemesis car lost it's front wheels and the hose pipe I used in the pool scene lost it's nozzle. That's been fixed on this version.

Not imported much or loaded any DS4 scenes yet. My building blocks are DS3 scenes as I find it easier and faster when building using primitives.

Produced it IIRC, through "Scott Free" which was their production company.

SBT.. as far as the what were you thinking question... last report I heard on the news said that reports were that he was recently diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.. so may have been a case of auto-euthanasia.. can't remember the name of the bridge.. paolo prolly knows.. but it's the bridge that all the cruise ships out of SoCal dock by.. it's like 180 ft tall.. eyewitnesses said he pulled his car up to the crest of it.. got out and jumped w/o missing a beat or pausing at all.. so he must have been pretty damned sure he wanted to do what he did.

That short is titled "Beat the Devil" and for me is the best short movie ever made. Clive Owen, Gary Oldman, James Brown, Denny Trejo and Marilyn Manson. That short is pure Tony Scott style, distilled to perfection. I just watched it again. What a loss, what a huge loss.

Because you are running DS 4.0, for necessity. I decided to not use that channel yet. Given that DAZ has broken both backward and forward compatibility, this  update is a bit delicate. I'm erring on the side of caution.
