This is an enlargement of my previous post, showing the red flecks in the hair (which I retouched out).

What causes this and is there a way to avoid them ?

Thanks for your assistance!

Sadly the only way I figured out so far is to a) turn the glossiness way down or make it Matte. I think its also been recommended to play with the diffuse & specular settings. Its still very much a work in progress for me..

Thanks Bobvan, I'll try fiddling with those things and see if any of it helps.

I am having the same issue with this red dress & hair on the same character in this scene... Lots of fiddling..

Testing out the new characters and skins (and horrible hair) that came in the Stephanie 5 Pro bundle. Base Steph in the middle, Keira on the left and Riley on the right.

I have to say the base Steph is kind of ugly, but I do like having more realistic characters to use in my library.

And I don't know why they keep putting the Pure Hair series hairs with these packs   (maybe they look good in 3Delight?), but I can never get them to look good with Reality.  The ones that came with M5 also looked like crap.

Not sure about rendering.. but if it was a digital photograph, that's called hot noise.  What it's usually caused by then is using too fast of an ISO setting in low light situations.  I would assume that it would be the same thing since luxrender uses real-world lighting as its model.

The way some of the hair in the picture is reflecting looks like a very high spec with a specular map confining the light reflection to certain areas.

What's the specular on the hair in your picture? I once had a Pure Hair load at 212 and had to bring it down to ~40.

Or the reflection could be painted on, which would suck.

Yikes! Cheeto Tan in a Can got away from them?

But you're right. That steph isn't quite what I would have envisioned for the normally Perfectionist Daz version of a woman. I read somewhere else that she's quite manly in her appearance. Doesn't exactly scream 'buy me!'

Let me start by saying this is a great image. So much detail as we are accustomed to in Doc's work. Like the boxes and the wheels leaning against the wall.

I have to say that it helped a lot to see the image at full size lol.

Love the "stripes" on the back. How did you get those ? ( I mean besides the obvious whipping the poor(?) girl received)

If I may presume to advise a master on his art, did you consider lighting the scene a bit differently? Perhaps a more creepy/moody lighting...say two or three bare incandescent bulbs instead of the Flourescent fixtures? I think it would give more of an "edge" to the scene (not that this is what you were looking for, just sayin :) )

I for one would like to see the scene darker if you feel like givin it a shot :)

Although, the darker, moodier lighting may give the scene a more sinister look, rather than a playful feeling, which may not be what you want in the image. shrug

Please pardon my boldness, and ignore my idea, if you think I am being "uppity" :)

Again, great image per usual, Doc. Thanks for sharing it!

Michael

One day I will learn to read what I writen before pushing the post button, I meant to say - Unlike yours mine comes with pictures.

Finished the freebie book, did a quick cover and it is rendering now.

Abi, did you want a copy of the open book?  I have re-packed all the props, all I've changed is to have the textures in their own folder.

Enjoy,

Abi.

Where does that truck comes from?

It's a 3D model I've had kicking around for ages, I don't remember where it came from (had it too long), I'm having to import into hexagon and seperate individual parts from the mesh and assign maps to them.

I have a bunch of other cars etc. I want to do, but the truck looks too good to leave alone.

Here's the reason why I did those test barrels the other day:

It's a HK P7M13, by far the bestest pistol I ever owned. Great fun to see it grow from a simple sketch. There's like a zillion little levers and springs in it, so it'll be a while before it's done.

Cheers!

NICE MODELING!! A Heckler & Koch 9mm, great job! I got to shoot a P7M10 .40 caliber a few years back, nice pistol.

The Riley character that came with the Steph pack is pretty nice and almost makes it worth it.  I'm working on a scene with her now and should have it up in the next few days.

And I did go out of my way to make Steph a little uglier than normal here.

One wierd thing, the lightbars on the front, when I set the mat. to metal/chrome (exactly the same sattings as the wheels - they render fine) they render black, if I set to cutom metal they render above, idea's?

Also, I copied the metal settings from the wheels mat. to the chrome mat. in Reality after copying the settings in DS, still the same result.  No matter what I tried, it would render black when set as (any) metal, unless flagged as custom - rendered fine with glossy, matte etc.
