The only thing I can think of is that the normals are inverted, so no matter what you do it'll render black. Unless you use custom.

Not sure if this is the source, but there's quite a few that are similar if anyone else wants a go. More models on the main page and by accessing the arrow buttons:

http://dmi-3d.net/truck3.html

Most are in Lightwave format, fyi, but can be opened and converted to DAE with Blender so Studio can read them.

I've talking a lot about how ugly Steph 5 is, so I wanted to try to make her look good.  Didn't make any changes to her shape at all, just edited materials in Reality.  I think it's the hair that makes the biggest difference.

I have seen that error before, just can't remember what it means. I think it is unable to use that specific texture for some reason. Look at line 174 in the lxm file and see what it refers to.

Thanks Doc. Off to take a peek. Send Gail over this way, as it seems I broke Lux.

Edit: Damn. Send Gail back, I got it.  You were right though. A pesky map I missed on a cornea. Not sure why it killed Lux though...

Ohhhhhhhhhh... the beauty of a fresh clean hard drive.  Decided to prepare my system drive for the new computer build a tad early.  Now, instead of a ponderous 110 gigs in my runtime.. i have one character, one outfit and one hair pack in addition to the base D|S content.  With my addiction to installing new content, I doubt that will remain that way much past this morning; but, it's nice to see NOW.  That and the "duplicate file found" errors I was getting on loading genesis and V4 are gone.  My photoshop is nice and lean too; only the plugins/filters that I use.

Doc.. I know me.. .it won't be like that this afternoon.  It won't be as bad though.  My creative flow has gone more towards content creation now instead of rendering for art's sake alone.  So, I just need a couple decent models to show off my textures.  A few hair sets to keep from getting bored.  Whatever content I'm working on and enough backgrounds/scenes I can get ahold of to keep things interesting for promos.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 8:57 AM

Speaking of which; here's the latest shot fresh out of the oven.  Only baked for like 500 passes or so; so, it's not super-duper quality but it came out nicely.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 8:58 AM

That shot is proof positive that picking the right hair is a big chunk of the battle.  The model/texture is Elena by Mihrelle; which renders like a dream and is gorgeous if you pick the right hair.  Pick the wrong hair like I did in the above render and she comes out looking a tad horse-faced.

I decided to see how the V5 Bree skin held up to scrutiny "up close and personal". I was amazed by the results.

This is the V5 Tori model sporting V5 Bree textures. Rendered for 7 and a half hours to 1400 Spp.  No postwork (used PSP to save as a JPG, that's all)

I used the ACSEL shaders available for Bree (the ACSEL shaders are one reason I chose to use Bree instead of the Tori textures). A big thank you to whoever submitted those shader settings!

I did have to adjust the settings on the pupil texture however, they were coming out Milky White, so I checked the settings and wound up lowering the specular color to 40/40/40 from 255/255/255.

How's it look?

All comments welcome :)

I am pretty sure I have to thank Paolo's 'Reality-plugin' for this. :)

Oh, I have no illusions whatsoever that I will win since most of the other Artist are far more popular then me. But it is truly an honour to have been nominated though!

That does look real nice! Out of curiosity, since I have never used the ACSEL feature, it just d/ls the Reality settings for the intended textures correct? If so, couldn't they be applied to any quality set of textures?

False-modesty imho.  If you voted for yourself like I did; you would see that you are currently at 20+% of the vote and outpacing the nearest artist by like 5 percentage points.  Your stuff is consistantly damned-near perfect.

I'm not sure but I think the ACSEL shaders are associated with a specific model/texture. I don't know if you can apply them to sets other than their intended purpose.  I have been just writing down the settings and manually putting them in the new material settings. If there is a way to do this from within Reality, please,  someone, tell me how :)

medmon.. the way you are doing it is exactly the way i had envisioned doing it.. sort of the way i'm working with gen x until it gets updated.  i transferred over all the v4++ morphs b4 i updated; now, with custom characters, i just copy down all the dial settings and doing them up manually and save them as a shaping preset.

medmon ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 1:57 PM

Tedious, but effective, no? 😄

not sure if you can or can't.. but hint-hint-nudge-nudge for Paolo.. the ability to copy/paste acsel shaders to new textures.  like.. i have 2 models in my scene.. one has bree shaders and other has no shaders.. control/click all the bree textures and copy/shaders.. ctrl/click model w/o shaders materials and paste/shaders

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 2:14 PM

Reggie68 ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 2:47 PM

If you save the shaders to a folder (rather than ACSEL), I think you can load them from that folder onto another V4/Genesis model.

I'm sure I did that once with some success. Can't try now as I'm cooking a render.

You can do a copy/paste across models. That's how I transferred my V4 settings to the equivalent Gen4 Genesis versions.

There are usually only a couple of actually different shaders across a Genesis model anyway as the body parts (torso, hip, arms and legs) tend to have exactly the same settings.

Thanks Reggie 😄

I just successfully saved the Bree shaders from Reality materials tab, loaded a new scene with a new model, then Loaded the shaders from my save folder. Worked like a charm once I figured out that you not only have to shift+select each shader to save, but also have to shift+select the shaders you want to load from the folder.

You just saved me a bunch of extra work my friend 😄

Thanks again!

bobvan ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 3:10 PM

Perhaps you guys can illustarte how to do this?

medmon ( ) posted Wed, 29 August 2012 at 3:39 PM

file_485846.jpg

It's pretty straightforward, Bobvan.

First, load up your model with the ACSEL shaders you want to transfer, then start up Reality and go to the Materials Tab, select all the materials you want to save the shader from, then click SHADER OPERATIONS to the lower right, and save to a folder of your choice. Save your scene if needed, then load your new model or open the scene containing the model you want to transfer the shaders to.

Once you have loaded the model you want to load the shaders to, select each material you want to load, in the materials tab of Reality,  again click on SHADER OPERATIONS, then choose Load Shaders, select the folder where you saved them (yes, select the FOLDER not files)

and presto! your Shaders are loaded to the new model.

a quick-and-dirty guide to transfering ACSEL Shaders from one model to another 😄

Hope it helps!

Michael
