Decided to mess around and play a bit with studio last night.. this is what came out at the end of the creative flow.  For those of you who can tell where the inspiration came for this V4 bodysuit texture..... what is known need not be discussed.  It's nothign spectacular quality-wise; just fun.  Click the pick for the full size shot.

that's actually the only type of clock made that can wake me up before my body decides it wants to.  i've thrown away a couple dozen digital alarms due to their crappy buzzers... a good old fashioned brass bell clock does the trick.

Well now.. you can count the color if it's 0,0,0 or 255,255,255.. only the ones in between are grey.

What hair are you using in these (and what settings in Reality)? It looks great and I could use a style like that.

The hair I used is Taylor Hair from DAZ.

All default settings in Reality, I didn't make any adjustments to the materials of the hair.

21 hours at this size isn't bad. Good things are worth waiting for :)  You also choose the most 'difficult' light: 'Sun'. Love the schadowplay it created.

Speaking of difficult lights.. to improve my render speed until I get my new puter built in ~counts on fingers~ 36 or so days.. I've been leaning heavily on ibl.  Playing around a few nights ago.. I loaded the daz studio environment sphere because I wanted to use an hdri image that I didn't have lights for.  Was going to use a separate ibl light with this new image.. well.. it seems it don't work that way.

So... I just turned that daz environment sphere into a light within reality.. cranked the gain to 6 on it and came out with this:

Ordinarily, with mesh lights, on a render like this I'd get a 30k s/s max render speed.  Using that environment sphere as a light I was tripling to quadrupling that speed.  I'd love to see if one of you guys(or gals) would/could do a quick test render using that environment sphere as a light to see what kind of performance you got.

Still have not been able to upgrade to Reality 2.5, due to financial restraints :(.....as a result, due to the size, and the fact that I transformed the entire cave to mirror settings in Reality, this one took almost an entire week to get to 489 s/p, with a lot of noise, so I had to use the Neat noise reduction software post render, to get this result....need a new laptop!

Ditto!

For Sharky, is the studio light you're talking about like an enviroment enclosure or the one that comes with Reality? Just curious, as one will render and perform quite differently from the other. Have you noticed any oomph with shadows?

I recently ditched my super render after 21 hours with and IBL+mesh as I didn't like the shadows created. I did end up using the good 'ol Sun with heavy adjustments. I'll post when it hits 3k sometime tonight. There's a 7 figures and stonemason's relatively new ruins 3 prop, but it's still zipping along at around 69-72ks/s. I wish Studio went that fast as it takes about 40 seconds to respond with the super high vertices count  I probably should have layered the characters, but I wanted the shadows to correspond to one another. Hmmm

While I'm here, does anybody know where the decimator is installed in Studio? I can't find it anywhere in the tabs department, so I was wondering if it was moonlighting under a different name.

SBT.. it's not a light at all.. it's actual name is "Environment Sphere" and comes in the base D|S props.  I haven't noticed much at all as far as shadows go as the light source is literally everywhere.. but with the sunlight preset and keeping the gain at about 6 it does give some nice subtle lighting.. and I've noticed that if I put a diffuse texture on it the lighting takes on the tones of the picture quite nicely.

If you're planning on using it.. you'll notice some things.  on the surfaces tab.. the diffuse is disabled by default.. you have to enable it(of course).  then on the parameters tab.. nothing will show unless you select the "show hidden properties" option.. then everything is locked and you have to manually unlock for any adjustments you want to make.

I use the darkside myself besides the &^$# duplicating errors im ok with 4.5. Even if re vamped my PC to factory to give it a "fresh" install it would not solve the issue since I would be using the same DS content folder...

Boom sometimes I find the sunlight easier to use then ibl..

I'm also running a custom UI as that's what works for me. That and I loathe the content tiles thing. I much prefer the tree, though its a bit more cumbersome to manage. It is real easy to find new stuff when it shows up though, as you get that 'aha!' moment when the tree shifts.

Back to the sphere, I'm not sure if 4.0(.3.47) has that sphere marked the same way. I went dinking around and all I found was the uber area light. I think it will work the same as it pops up in the scene tab as both an area and distant light type. Off to try it for a quickie as my other just hit 3.01k.

I ran a few quickies of the scene-in-progress, each with the area light with IBL, just IBL, and just sun. The IBL alone is still fastest as expected at 113ks, but the area light with IBL wasn't a slouch either at 86ks. The sun by itself was about the same, but you just can't beat the sharply defined shadows (for a large scene anyway) it produces. Simple 'portrait' type scene is a bit different, but not my specialty

It was still interesting to try it out nonetheless!

Funny cause this one with the sun  http://fav.me/d5d96ex looked ready after 6 minutes I let it run longer to refine it but it did not take all that long

Boom.. i'm running a render now.. got the sphere for ambient light and the light disc at a 45 degree angle above and behind my model to create some shadowing.. it's still running double to triple my normal speed.  you all know what a 10 pass render looks like.. but even still.. i got that feeling(you know the one) that this is gonna turn out niiiiiiice.  It's a good homecoming render as I just got a Godin character that has a custom head morph.. can't hand dial it into a genesis shape so i brought Vickie to the dance.
