Now that I take a 2nd look, I am thinking Jane Curtin...especially if you morph the head up vertically a little.  Give her a little Prymatt look...

Yep, thats Jane Curtin for sure!

ghonma ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2012 at 11:24 AM

Well this is the girl i'm supposed to be doing - Jennifer Lawrence from The movie 'Hunger Games'

Am I close, or should I just go back to the drawing board ? Opinions ? Crits ?

just my opinion but i think her mouth needs to be a little narrower and the chin a fraction longer, try doing this an overlaying a transparency of the model on the photo from the same facial angel, but with the faces overlaid obviously lol

The face is too round, not angular enough to be Ms. Lawrence...at least to me.  But then again, I think that the world is round and politics should make sense.

She has a more pronounced nose. Lips are fuller.

try and find as many referance pics as you can. pref side top front back etc. look past the complexion and see the lines.

Eyes are set back further. etc..

Tom

monkeycloud ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2012 at 3:12 PM

What Tom said...nose should be a bit longer, with a more pronounced / convex bridge of the nose

Also, looks from here like nice work, attention to detail, on the upper portion of the ear that I can see, and compare with your reference. However, the inside part of the lower portion of the ear is off, I think.

As already noted, I also think her mouth looks to be narrower, lips fuller. But, it may just be the pout she's pulling in that one reference photo. Would need more reference photos as Tom suggests, I think.

Photos without much make-up, in lighting that helps pick out the structure of the face, ideally.

Making some black and white copies of your reference photos, in Photoshop or Gimp, or similar, might help there too, with regards picking out the structural lines?

Looks like you're reasonably close on the overall face shape though, I'd say... 😄

Cheers 😉

could go more insane on the lines but had to draw these in a hurry with a mouse, but you get the idea of what I am saying. it is the very tiny almost undecernable thing that make for realism. sorry but my brain needs spell check. :-)

the light bulb was not a product of genious it was a product of hundreds and hundreds of trys untill he got it to work.

Same with this work. be objective as you can and listen to others comments.

You are on the right track though. look forward to the progress of this figure.

Tom

Click to enlarge as I could not draw it at the smaller rez

richardson ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2012 at 6:51 PM

I would find a profile pic. I'm guessing her lower face protrudes more. "dog" faced for a lack of quicker term. I mean some people are pie faced and some really stick out at the nose, mouth and chin... Your profile seems to be more aged and weak jawed. mho

Her ears are more prominant as well. She's young... treat her like an inflated doll... Her skin is tight and her fat is still firm,,, etc Such is youth.

Its always tricky to find profile stills of actresses... the side angle seems to be avoided for publicity shots.

Above is one, almost profile, I found...

monkeycloud ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2012 at 7:07 PM · edited Thu, 20 September 2012 at 7:08 PM

Another one...

Both stills from the movie I think...

ghonma ( ) posted Thu, 20 September 2012 at 11:07 PM

Thanks a lot guys, really helps !

ghonma ( ) posted Fri, 21 September 2012 at 1:12 AM

Ok, so... more dog face, smaller lips and (i think) more accurate nose. The ears are still off i can see, but i'm gonna leave those for now as they'll probably be covered by hair. So, better ? Worse ? Go back to flipping burgers Ghonma ?

richardson ( ) posted Fri, 21 September 2012 at 4:04 AM

Better. You picked a challenging face.. Her profile is more like a 14 year old but she has a long bridge. Her forehead is bulbous yet if you draw a line down from it, the entire nostril area seems to fall in front of that line.

Those are nice picture refs. Can we see yours from the side? Are you rushed or under a time constaint?

mysticeagle ( ) posted Fri, 21 September 2012 at 4:13 AM

i dunno of it is any help, but the face maker program uses a system of key points, dots, similar to Toms sketch above. Overlay your model from a front and profile view and mark the key points, ie left and right of each eye, bottom of chin, width of cheeks, ear height, top and bottom of each lip and the width of the mouth ,nose etc, the more points you match up, the better it will look, and of course as tends to happen, once you apply a texture to it, it will look completely different lol

More like the client isn't paying for more then a couple days work on this, so whatever I can do in that time is it. Anyways this is the side:

I'm calling it 'done' for now and i'll start texturing it next. Maybe if i get time i'll work on the mesh again later.
