@willie..no..got a tiny mouse..small enough to fit my hand.. and oh..heaven's sake..baby pink and silver..cldn't get white. rather girl teensy, i must say. :-p Cute..ย

@AS.. why have cracked versions of the free version?? That's a bit preposterous. Get the free version, with a proper serial, and happily..get up dates, etc. It's free! ย Really..people have no sense. I didn't have to buy my first version of bryce.. 4.. it was. It was gifted to me. Any idea how much ย it was during those days?ย

artrage.. looks great.. looks good..will go thru the site..download a free trial if they have one..and see how it goes!Though already..it wins hands down price wise!ย

Thanks AS!ย

Lol...we look forward to your winding tuts... lots ย to learn.ย

@bobby..remind me of that when i decide to get an apple product. :-p

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 28 September 2012 at 11:09 PM

why have cracked versions of the free version?

  • Pirates are like anyone else on the interenet, they want traffic. If a Warez file is offered on a "storage site" (rapidshare, etc, etc) and a user gets enough people to download their file(s), at a certain point they get points from rapidshare that they can then apply to paying for their own rapidshare account. (for their own downloading) Or, like any other site owner they want traffic to drive their ad revenue.

  • Free Bryce still requires a serial number. Pirates would much rather plug in a stolen serial number than go through registering at Daz. But yeah, I bet some might get pissed off if they find out their "illegal" Bryce is actually just FREE, lol.

bryce 4. Any idea how much ย it was during those days?

  • B4 is when I got into Bryce but (much) later on and I was able to buy Bryce 4 for $150...or maybe it was $180? Can't remember. But, better than its original price of...what was it $300, $400?

I bought Bryce back in the meta creations era and recieved such shabby service as it was a broken version I nearly gave up and then they gave away the version I had just paid for and the fix in a compouter mag which pissed me off so bad I didn't have Bryce again till I started helping out here. DAZ is a way better owner than meta cretins were....

I got Bryce and Poser free off a magazine, tried both and decided that even though the controls looked the same, Bryce was easier to use - so much so that I got hooked by it, and ended up buying the upgrade the first chance I got.

I think that was either Bryce 3 or 4 and Poser was 3 I think... but I can't really remember.

ย

AS... Artrage?ย  that's just under ยฃ40.00... hmmmm I've always wanted Painter - had an old freebie disc with Painter Classic that they wouldn't let me install cos I didn't have the magazine here with the serial number in it - It's probably at home buried somewhere in the Summerhouse.ย  It's well out of date anyway, Artrage might be the solution.ย  I might be able to afford that soon.ย  If our house move doesn't swallow everything.

What is the latest GIMP now?ย  I have 2.6 - if there's a newer one more like PhotoShop now, I'd go get it.

Your tut, Kirk, will it be possible to follow it in PhotoShop?

I bought Bryce and Poser at the same time when they were both at MetaCreations (hence the similarity of the UI). If I recall correctly (and what are the chances of that), they were at Bryce3D ("It Moves!") and Poser4. The pair cost me about $99 US, I was getting a break on the pair. For me it turned out to be money well spent. Then MetaCreations blew up and the pieces scattered all over.

Your tut, Kirk, will it be possible to follow it in Photoshop?

  • Oh yeah, in fact it is so simple, it is all the same exact settings and all the labels are called the same thing (in Gimp AND in Photoshop)

  • Gimp is at version 2.8.2 right now.

oh good! @AS.

I downloaded the starter version of Artrage..gave up using that coz half the stuff wasn't available. downloaded the trial version..will have fun twiddling around with it and seeing what I can do.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 01 October 2012 at 5:10 AM

Be sure to check the ArtRage forums for Users' custom brushes, one can get some great brushes there that will get you closer, faster to cool looking brushes without having to tweak the heck out of the default ones. (which aren't bad to begin with)

Okay, sorry for the delay and also sorry, you're gonna have to wait a little longer for that Gimp/Bump/Terrain tutotrial. Time is just not on my side at all these days. But, let me try and play some catchup here...

Here is the flooring from the last download on page 1 but this floor is made from a Terrain that was created to fit the existing image texture. It is seamless/tile-able. Bryce 7 scenefile (re-worked recently).

These are all booleaned Metaballs, the mat's used are Adamite's, the blue one being customized but still uses the original bump. Bryce 6 scenefile (Dec 2009)

This was to simulate a glazed/fired piece of pottery. It is actually two Terrains sandwiched together, one carries the reflective inner material and the other, the outer painted material. The scene uses an HDRI and from what I remember is not a fast rendering scene. Bryce 7 scenefile (August 2010)

I believe this was just a basic scene I used for some of my Bryce 6 beta-testing. The green tiles are image textures laid atop Terrains that were custom made to fit. Scene uses an HDRI. Bryce 6 scenefile (Nov. 2006)

Enjoy!

P.S.; I will get back to that Gimp/Bump/Terrain Tutorial and get it up here for you all!

This was me messing around with trying to create a brushed steel material without complex shaders. This uses just a image texture to produce a finer brushed bump and blurry reflections are turned on to finish the effect. Quality mode has been tuned to "Premium" at 64RPP, so this will be a slow rendering scene.

The object is made up of Bryce booleaned primitives.

The wirecage was created with [**KnotPlot**](http://www.knotplot.com) (which was freeware at the time). I did a number of versions of this scene and this was the final one, which includes a custom Terrain to fit the brick image ground texture.

Used this to test out the freeware program "Ivy Generator" at the time it had came out. Seamless grass image texture for the ground. Uses an HDRI, turn it off to have it render much faster.

This is made out of two Terrains booleaned into one another to form a glass...watchamacallit. Seamless wood image texture for the floor.

*NOTICE - While this also renders in Bryce 6 & 7, the lighting/atmosphere will be somewhat different looking.

This is a mesh I created with the freeware modeling program "TopMod". From what I remember this mesh is fairly high poly and a VERY slow render. Seamless wood image texture for the floor.

Bryce 6 Scenefile (March 2007).

*NOTICE - While this also renders in Bryce 7, the glass material will look quite different, this is because of some program change that was made between versions. For Bryce 7 users, I suggest (Inside Render Options) to try changing your Maximum Ray Depth to 12 and your Maximum TIR Depth to 12 to get your results close to what you see here.
