Yes definitely crosseyed! The breasts are a bit big and cartoonie for my taste, though I'm sure that will appeal to many. That said, as far as I can judge from promo images alone, she looks like she may be a better quality than some other recent new figures. And the fact that she is a real woman, not neutered, has to be a big plus.

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Fri, 19 October 2012 at 7:54 AM

I'll use the base, I don't need those certain "other" morphs as I have no use for them.

I like her, I can work with her. I have taken the head into Blender - the poly density is high enough that I can sculpt easily. I don't think she is cross-eyed, but the eyes need to be lowered about five degrees or so.

SceneFixer - reveal dials - xtran the eyes - no more cross.

But there are bigger issues. The texture has burned-in specular on the lips that, when plugged into Scatter for SSS, is the worst disease you've ever seen.

It's DIFFUSE COLOR, PEOPLE - THE YEAR is 2012 - NO MORE SHIT NEED BE ADDED TO OUR SUPPLY.

Also, the UV mapping of the iris is disjoint from the sclera, and the resulting hard edge looks worse than anything I've ever seen.

Also, the cornea overlaps the sclera. If you're trying realistic eyes, with fresnel reflections, properly implemented on cornea and sclera, the overlap will cause a ring of double strength reflections.

Not worth downloading, IMO. There are so many other great options.

I won't be using the supplied texture with the specular on the lips, I'll be making my own, and enjoying doing it. As for the problem with the eyes, I don't think I am sophisticated enough to see it.

The web page and readme state:-

"Cynthia loads into your scene and renders faster than most Poser figures.

If you're working on that huge project with a short deadline and need a Poser figure that wouldn't take hours to render, then Cynthia 1.0 is your choice!

Here are the items you get with your purchase of Cynthia 1.0:

    - Cynthia 1.0 figure
    - associated High-Res (4096 x 4096) textures files
    - associated geometry mesh

"

The free version comes with only 4 body textures each sized at 2048 x 2048 and one head parts texture sized at 1024 x 1024. No bump, no diffuse, no bells and whistles, just a basic set of low resolution maps. Enough so that you can preview the figure.

So the artist burned in some highlights into the low resolution preview, big whoop.

I feel that this figure has potential. I will certainly be looking into using it in more detail.

Tunesy ( ) posted Fri, 19 October 2012 at 7:31 PM

It's a very nice figure.  Honestly, some of the hyper-criticism in Poserland borders on oddball fetishism.  Who gives a shit if the "cornea overlaps the sclera"??  A Poser render is recognizable from a mile away regardless.

LaurieA ( ) posted Fri, 19 October 2012 at 8:59 PM · edited Fri, 19 October 2012 at 9:01 PM

You would know what BB is talking about if you saw it closely enough. You can see a very distinct bright shiny ring around the iris that look immediately "wrong". And everyone has an opinion yanno, whether it agrees with yours or not ;). That's just human nature. Some folks have higher standards. Nothing wrong with that.

FWIW, you forgot to tick the language box. LOL

I think EZskin and SSS have done a great deal to make Poser renders...well, less creepy.  We're all used to it so probably don't notice it as much, but ordinary people are often creeped out by Poser's "doll eyes."  The new shaders do a lot to fix that.

So if a new figure is not set up well to use them...I would consider it a serious drawback, and do not think it's hypercritical to mention.

Doesn't mean I would not give this figure a chance, but I don't think it's wrong to discuss the problems.

smallspace ( ) posted Fri, 19 October 2012 at 10:36 PM

Know for a fact that BVH isn't using the latest version of Poser, so he might not have access to the latest bells and whistles.

Doubt if there's anything wrong with the figure that can't be fixed by all the talent here and by BVH himself. Ask yourself: is the rigging good...how does the figure bend? Are there enough polys and are they distributed well? Is the mapping easy to work with?

BVH made his rep creating clothing, so I'd expect there will some good outfits for her. PhilC seems to like her, so I expect WW support and possibly OBJ2CR2 support will be forthcoming.

All in all, even though there is a glut of new female figures on the market, I'd like to see this one succeed.

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

I think that's going to be really difficult for a figure that doesn't advantage of Poser's latest bells and whistles, like SSS and weight-mapping.

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2012 at 12:31 AM · edited Sat, 20 October 2012 at 12:40 AM

I am also astounded by the negativity.

Well, let me say why I do like her:

I like the shape of the body a lot, all three body morphs in fact. I like much it better than any other Poser figure in its default state. The body is sexy and womanly, I can relate to it. I like that the breasts look as if they have some weight to them. I like that there is some fleshiness on the torso when she bends sideways. The modelling on the abdomen pleases me, she has a nice waist, and the waist is where I want it, not too high or too low. The thighs and hips have a feminine look, she has curves and muscles but she doesn't look as if she spends her life in the gym. The Amazon and Voluptuous morphs look more like the African women I see every day than any other figure around, except perhaps for Bella. So she suits my purpose very well.

The face is a good starting point for making my own custom faces, and I am already working on that. Even in its default unmorphed state it is a face shape I can use if I need a caucasian character.

She isn't the latest in Poser tech, she was made using Poser 6. But why should users of earlier versions of Poser not have a new figure to play with? I'll be using her with EZskin. I'll make my own textures. I'll even share them. So she is not weight-mapped. That is a challenge, not a problem. I make very little use of weightmapped figures anyway.

There is a free version. The paid version, with three full body morphs and a good collection of other morphs, is only $10, for goodness' sake.

On principle, I support individuals who put in the effort to produce something new. For the work of one person, I think this figure is exceptional. BVH produced her in a very short time, and I see no indication that he is going to stop working on her. The Baron is open to feedback.

I dont see any problem if a model is released without a SSS-based shader, Snarlygribbly´s EZSkin lets us correct an unsupported figure in a couple of minutes.

BVH also have a history of releasing a lot of free clothings to the characters he creates, so for $10 this is a bargain.

I bought it and i like it :-)

Paloth ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2012 at 12:50 AM

The figure's irises are not in the center of the eyes when framed by the eyelids: they are closer to the center than the outside. This is what gives her a cross-eyed look. Since this sort of thing is easily corrected, I have to wonder why it was released like this.

She reminds me a lot of Posette especially in the arms, their proportions and bending and this is especially striking in the sitting pose.   But then I never disliked Posette and she had great morphability - I continued using her well into the Vicki 2 phase.  IIRC so did BVH.  But those eyes definitely need a little fix :)

Once again, or should I say once more, quality is NOT equal to Poly count.

Quality is a lot more then just "HIGH Poly". So glad I can delete all of them at once.

To me? It is a man with a coke botte shape, and balloons. Sorry.

There are better figures with 1/10 the Poly count.

If she would have been around 10K Poly's, I would have started to make corrections.
At 70K , it is not worth the time and energy.

And, PS? Poser version???
Has nothing to do with poly count, body shape or bending possibilities of a figure.

What EVERY poser or DS figure creator should do.
And this is a MANDATORY task if you want to learn something.

Open up the Poser 1 figures.
And make something out of those.

You WILL learn a LOT more then you would ever think possible. And NO this is NOT a joke.

DO it before you comment. But, I am pretty sure NO BODY will.

Good to see that thereis also something new also for those who are still on older Poser versions.

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Sat, 20 October 2012 at 5:12 AM

I already have two low-poly figures from BVH and they work well - Angela and Joshua.

Angela has 13992.

Joshua 13642.

That is about as low as I will go.

Cynthia has 42002 polys. That is not a lot these days.

According to the posts earlier in this thread...this figure has problems that EZSkin won't fix.  Not just the default texture, but the modeling/mapping of the eyes.

I suppose this could be fixed by the community.  I remember in the early days, people made eye props to make eyes look more realistic.  You substituted them for the figure's default eyes.

But that seems a lot to expect, given the high hurdle any non-DAZ figure is facing.  Especially with Genesis in Poser now.

The figures BVH figures in their original low-res textures (no SSS) and flat-lined to see the mesh.

Left to right is Athena2 (no longer available), new Cynthia and low-poly Angela; the latter both in original mesh and after a 1-time subdivision using Snarly's subdivider.

Poses are uncorrected library poses (loaded as universal pose), origial V4 pose for Athena and V2 poses for Cynthia and Angela.

For Athena and Angela breast morphs applied to bring the boys anywhere near realistic proportions. October's salary slip has not arrived yet, so Cynthia has to carry her weights, but hopefuly I can do something before she gets a sore back.

I think the girls are worthy additions to the Runtime.

Coming along nicely. The update didn't fix the issue with the cornea, though. But bagginsbill, as always, came to the rescue. On his site there is a very nice eye-prop which I use for Cynthia. I removed the baked-in highlights of the lip texture with a little photoshopping. EZskin2 and hair for finish. Not to shabby.
