Subject: Rendo or Daz Store?

dumorian ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2012 at 12:43 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 2:33 AM

First, I apologize if this is out of place here. I'm certain it could start a flame war and I don't want that. And, it seems there is not a clear place for this post within these forums, so this was as close as I could get.

I'm finishing up some work which I would like to sell online. I am looking at the Rendo store and the Daz store and trying to make good decisions.

First, I am a Daz user having only just this week picked up a copy of Poser to start learning there. So, my testing is done in Daz and things that are worn I am so far creating for Genesis. I will be looking at DSON, one of the reasons for picking up Poser and would like to include a DSON file if possible.

Meanwhile, the stores. Both have compatible percentages and both seem to require an exclusive to hit the better percentage rates. I'm thinking it would be best to go with an exclusive for any product put into a store.

Any suggestions with which store to use, although it 'might' be a bit skewed as this post is in the Rendo forums. I would love to hear any pros can cons by PAs regarding a decision on where to go with this.

Again, I hope this stays calm and is not out of place to ask here. It is a bit on the rude side.

I can give you a pretty fair answer because I tried both. I started with the DAZ store for about 18 months and then I moved to Renderosity in May of this year.

My personal experience has been that the support at Renderosity is vastly superior to what I experienced at DAZ. You get also more means of promoting your products here at Renderosity. There is almost no mean of promotion at DAZ beyond what DAZ decides to put on their newsletter. No banner to buy, ni other options.

The responsiveness at Renderosity is vastly superior. Also, their Vendor Control Room allows you to start sales and control several aspects of your products that were not even existing in the DAZ store when I was there.

Lastly, the DAZ website has been very unreliable since mid of May and they still have noticeable problems. Their shopping cart software is quite buggy and vendors have suffered quite a bit.

So, my advice is to try Renderosity first.

Hope this helps.

Well, I have Reality for Daz and once I dive into Poser a bit deeper, will more than likely pick it up for Poser as well!

I am feeling the same with Daz. It has been extremely frustrating and after nearly 6 months, it's almost like no one is listening. I understand the challenges they face as I am in that business. Either way, there are simply too many things out of place over there and they have been for way too long. Run a sale on Friday afternoon... the website breaks on Friday night and no one is around to fix it until Monday? I was a devoted Daz customer until the launch of the new site which led to such a negative 'web experience' that I started shopping elsewhere. The reasons are numerous. I've tried to be patient.

Thank you for your response Paolo. I positively respect your opinion on this.

Apparently Daz have very high standards and getting them to except your product can be long winded and difficult. But for a Genesis and DS product you'll probably get a higher number of potential customers at Daz than here.

As a customer, although aware and irratated by the Daz store at the moment I still prefer to shop there, the level of product is excellant also the 30 day money back guarantee is a very big incentive to customers.

HI, here is my .02cents, that is 03cents more then it is worth. Do what ever you feel is best.  Just PLEASE keep all your work DAZ compat. there are those of us who know little to nothing of Poser and Little just left the room.  Good luck may you prosper and live well.

A very interesting subject that I had not given much thought to, except that I have noticed that there seems to be more models, props and other things available on Renderosity.

I had one product that was here and I reworked and updated and moved to DAZ. Sales volume was about 3 to 1 higher at DAZ than it had been here. Other products have far outsold what I would have expected here based on past sales volume here. On the other hand they were DAZ only products so that factors into it. And yes that is post web move. I've never had any real issues with staff at either place. The testing process at DAZ seems less taxing than here, but you are less likely to get a flat "no" on products here.

One Reason I like Renderosity is because you can upload freebies and in there it promotes your other products. They show what your top selling products are when looking at your freebies..To me that is Priceless promotion. Just make sure your freebie ain't crap lol....Also you can create Promo images with a lot more freedom. I like explaining stuff in my promo's..something you cannot really do at Daz. All they have is 4 to 5 pics on a product, and they really small to be honest..A lot of finer detail cannot be seen.

That is PA choice though. I regularly do more than that but not everyone does. The promo images can be as large as 1000x1300. But unless someone has a massive screen they do not show up that large. On the other hand, you have the editorial section here to add even more information or images here and better linking to a gallery.

I think the new site autosizes them to the same format. All promo's I have seen are the same size.

They size to your monitor. Unless you are moving between a regular size screen and a noticeably larger screen you won't get variable sizes.

All very interesting input. It really is a lot along the lines of what I guessed. Folks are upset with the horrorible new Daz store, but very tolerant... One would hope it would get better? Rendo may be a better location for Poser oriented items, but I suppose that is subject to change with the release of DSON... again... time will tell.

Me? Yes I'm extremely frustrated with the Daz store. Yes, I do go there and after buying pretty much nothing there for months, did pick up a lot of items during the Anniverery sale. I guess at this point, I'll work towards giving it a go over there as time figuring out the Poser side of things would be difficult. Figuring out publishing in Daz is mumbo jumbo. I really thought there would be some 'official order' to files and directories, but even Daz products are sprinkled all over the place, although Genesis items seem to have a bit of order or at least an attempt. It seems a bit backwards to allow this and then need all the metadata to clean it up, but I am learning why/how this came about.

Meanwhile, I'm still progressing along with my work. It's pretty neat to see the stuff forming in the Product view in DS. I have a lot of texture maps to finish up and have to figure out the difference between scenes and scene subsets. Just haven't tested anything doing that yet. Have some poses to create and maybe then I'll be good to go!

Any other advice is way more than welcomed!

A scene will load a NEW scene. Meaning it closes out the old one. Scene subsets are pretty wonderful. You can save all of what is in the scene or just one or two things. That means if you only want to save a character that you have fixed the surfaces on you can or a whole outfit or what ever. No deleting the extra bits before a save any more.

I was hoping that was what it did. Great! I do want to use that feature.

It seems I 'think' something should act a certain way too many times though, only to find out that's not what it really is. ;) Daz positively could use just one good writer on staff. It seems that most of the writing everywhere, from man pages to sales ads to product descriptions... always have a word or two that can be interpreted more than one way. The forums over there seem to attest to this.

Then there are the 'magic click areas'. LOL!!! I don't know what else to call them. Like in Animate, where you have to right click in a blank part anywhere in the menu area to get more options. The only other place I've seen right click in the middle of nowhere is the Windows desktop. I suppose I shouldn't be so stuck in a rut with interfaces?
