Thanks!

In British English, "on a promise" simply means that you have arranged to or at least expect to have an intimate encounter with someone - usually your regular partner.

I can never understand why, when your date said to pick her up at a specific time, you have to wait another half an hour before she is ready.

...nice one doc! worth the wait `¬)

a great shot CrazyHorse! ...some very good posing, makes it look very dramatic! a little depth of field might help remove the fact that the castle door pulls the eyes away from the action, but its still an excellant image! `¬)

Thanks!  I should have used some depth on it you are correct about that. I was hoping the bloom would warsh out the BG more than it did...

KrazyHorse ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2012 at 1:27 PM

Quote - This is last nights overnight test run. (It includes the 'lightning' that superboom pointed to in an earlier post; it seems to work very well in this scene! - so thanks for that superboom! `¬)) it is free from runtime dna http://www.runtimedna.com/RDNA-Atmospherics-Lightning-Vol-1.html

I have now extended the environment image so that the appearance in the glass reflections are correct, and have added the lightning to the the globe. I have also converted the tube stand to glass, as in this new scene (where the tube rack and globe intersection was corrected) the tube rack will not Dform easily due to the increased mesh density... (still a little noisy, but not worried about that at the moment)

I am now test running a little added 'atmosphere' if you know what I mean! - although there are still some textures to finish as well...

Looking very nice indeed. The globe looks great, very nice effect.

Quote - Sort of off topic but not really.  Finished my first ibl with vue last night.  This was a full (yet small and basic) scene.  Saved it out with 4000x2000 jpg, exr and hdr.  The quality of the picture itself wasn't what I was hoping.  It was a tad washed out when I put the jpg on the reality ibl sphere.  The upside was that it rendered really nice.  I was getting double the speed from this light than I have out of other ibl's I've used.  All three files together come to about 90mb in a rar file; so, I'm not really sure where to put it to enable others to download it.  Anyway.. here's the render I created using it....

What background???     The lighting is great, makes her skin pop...  But then again, she's popping anyway you want to look at it.  hehe!

You might try taking that BG image into PS/Gimp and increase the contrast but that will also change the light value as well. Or you could just post in the BG.

Mbin, your lab is looking super good.  You're achieved a very nice atmosphere, it reminds me of an Indiana Jones sort of thing.

Thank you.   It was an interesting scene to work with. There is so much depth to it.

Quote - > Quote - Hi folks!

It get's cold over here in Austria, so its time to fire up some renders...and to look through 169 pages here cough, cough

Let's see if figure out, how to post my Images in this forum? My first "Testrender" is a forest scene I bought recently. So first here is the link to the image in my Gallery:

Through the Forest

Welcome back! I wondered how the forrest would render out! looks pretty good to me! `¬)

heres how I post an image (took a while to work out with a bit of help from here...)

Make sure your image is on the net, you have a gallery, so that is fine. Open your image in a new window, and then right click for 'properties'. It should list an address URL for that. Copy that from the properties and in then in this forum reply area (where you type your post) click the icon that looks like a tree. In the Image URL post the address you copied. Then go to the appearance tab and enter 600 in the dimensions first box. when you hit enter, the other box should auto change. Click insert button. That puts the image into your post as a 600 x whatever image. Now in the image in the 'reply' box, right click the image and select 'insert/edit link'. Paste the url again into this box, and select for 'target' to be 'open in new window' and then click insert.

That now means when you have finished typing the reply you want to post and have posted your reply, the image should appear in your post, and if you click on the image it will open up the original url location full size in a new window... `¬)

so your post would look like this...

I had a problem at first, as there was an extra line when I copied the url! And I ended up with the same 'x' square you did! ...so make sure when copying the url you copy the whole address... `¬)

Thank you, mbin for your detailed "howto" description! I am sure I will need it, when my next Render is finished.

Omg.. SBT if you're out there.. wtf have I done to my poor pc.. starting another tropical isle type render with Vue to use as an ibl.  8000x4000 @ 300dpi.  16hrs estimated to render.  I know it's not much in our world of Luxrender... but I feel as though this is an eternity for Vue

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2012 at 6:19 PM

alright.. wasn't too far into it.. so cancelled it and dropped the dpi to 72.. going a bit faster.. 9hrs instead of 16

8kx4k is pretty damn huge! And at 300dpi, 16 hours seems pretty reasonable.

I know a lot of standard 'photo' (ie digital photo) IBL's come in that size, but I've always wondered why. At the moment, I just presumed it was because either that's what a Mega megapixel camera shoots, or maybe its just the default size. ;-/

It really depends on what's in your sky too. I had one at 28xxx14xx only take 3 hours, then one at the usual size go for 23 hours, and it was half as complex!

Not sure what all goes on inside Vue, but its random as all get-out. (And still crash-o-matic in the new version! Took me a full day to export a simple terrain without crashes!!!)

It's going pretty fast now SBT.... 1/2 way through the first pass.  It's slowing because now is when the scenery gets interesting.  Coconut trees, rippled sand, choppy seas.  Nice pre-sundown sky.  It's got potential so far; but with the sky being black still there's no telling.  I'll up it to my skydrive when it's done.

rock on.. tks brad.. it rendered pretty fast for me on the last render i posted here in the thread(chick with mono-kini half off).  I was getting double to triple my normal ibl-only render speed.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2012 at 8:18 PM

Vue sure comes to a screeching friggin halt for render speed when it hits water...  45 minutes to do the first 1/2 of the render..  45 minutes in and it just has about 1/3 of the line of water.. glad the angle is sharp enough that the sea area is only about 50 pixels tall.

Insane speeds with just the IBL and no other lighting (and one Genesis with hair and no clothes).  750 kS/s at 105% Eff.  My average complex scene lately has been running at 20-30 kS/s.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Mon, 29 October 2012 at 10:24 PM

well.. i must have done something right with that scene then... the render that i have going now is not much different.. i'm just making it larger, a sunset theme and a lot less vegetation.

The one I made seems to be doing well also; five figures, one genesis, fairly large scene prop and a nice big body of water (as glass). Any of the other IBL's I have might, might net me around 60ks/s. This one is belching out 138ks/s. Not bad!

I'll give yours a whirl on my next scene, Sharky. Very curious!

Sharky, ran a few quickies this morning with your Desert Isle IBL. Despite what the screenie says, yours ran just as fast as the other one I posted (think it maxed at 535ks/s at one point). Seems like rotating the sphere one way or another can add or subtract 75ks/s sample speed. Go figure

Well.. my next ibl is done.  I'm not so sure I like it graphically.  The coconut trees that are in it are really jagged.  I'll run a fast test render with it to show what I mean.  Nice subtle sunset-ish lighting tho.  Add a fill light or two and some pretty decent renders might be able to be made with just the lighting info.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Tue, 30 October 2012 at 6:03 PM

Anyone know why the background image in my ibl's is so stinking washed out?  The sample jpg that I save with the scene is nice and bright and vivid.  Yet, when I use the ibl it's very faded.

Also, on several characters I have; no matter what lip color I use on them, in reality it always comes out silverish.  I haven't changed any settings and they render with perfect color in studio.

okay... tweaked the hdr file a bit in photoshop.. it's got some decent preset filters for hdr's.  Doesn't look quite as washed out now.  It's rendering REALLY fast.  Nearly 400k s/s on my computer.. which would translate to about 1000k s/s on Brad's box..... It looks pretty nice.  Can't really tell about the jaggedy trees because there's only a partial of one tree in the scene.  Overall, it's looking fairly nice.  I'm sure I'll be doing better ones when my Vue skills and hdr-production skills improve.

Thanks, subtle enough?  I'm still battling computers (woke up to find this one has blue-screened overnight again) so I may dissapear once in a while.  Av was about time for a change, and that one is one of my favorites right now.  As for my address, I'm gonna have to make that a challenge, I'll start to incorporate it into a few renders, we'll see how attentive you are! :)
