Subject: V4-WM is Here!

barrowlass ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2012 at 1:20 PM

I had difficulty in installing the M4/V4 bases and morphs in the users/P9 content location because of Windows 7's idiotic protocols.  New items mustn't be installed in Program Files (x86) - (and Daz figures literally throwing a strop over it all).  I'll give it another go in that folder.  I'm just unsure as to how to install V4-WM - as I say I've never dealt with it before so it's new to me :)

Only the script needs to be in the central runtime.  I used it with all my V4 files in a Version 4 runtime and it worked just fine.  It made a character file in the same folder that my originals (one preloaded with morphs, one from the plain base) were in.

Inspired_Art ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2012 at 5:51 PM

I also found out that when running the script it makes the cr2s and pngs in the hidden temp folder (Vista). I think that's in the instructions, but I kept overlooking it. Moving all the files into a permanent location did the trock for me.

That's a lovely render. So - have I read this right (it's gone midnight here) ;) I can have my V4 in a separate folder (as originally) but install the script in either the users/Poser 9 Content folder - or Program Files (x86) SM/Poser 9. Sorry to be so obtuse

Yes. I have the script under C:Program FilesSmith MicroPoser 9RuntimePythonposerScriptsScriptsMenuPoserPlace.

I'm running W7 - still having difficulty re V4-WM scripts locations - V4 and M4 are in an external 'Daz People' folder on an external HDD and have been added to the library in P9.  As I've said, W7 doesn't like anything being added to SM/Poser 9/Runtime ... etc.  I've tried installing scripts to that (with admin privileges) and to the C: users/public documents/Poser 9 Content Runtime.  No success.

I'm sure I'm missing something really simple here. For the life of me I can't think of it :(

I can't test it right now, but if my memory (which is failing) is right, you can run it from where ever you choose, doesn't matter, buy you will get pop up asking you where stuff is.

GeneralNutt ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 3:59 PM

When you say it doesn't work, what do you mean, the script errors? The results are not as expected?

barrowlass ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 4:01 PM

It's OK after much messing around I think I've finally installed it right. I've run it to create a V4-WM figure which I'll get accustomed to over the next weeks

The script that comes with the V4-WM download? No.

As far as I can tell this is not a DEV figure.

Just out of curiousity where would I see the most dramatic features of weight-mapping in the model?

kobaltkween ( ) posted Thu, 19 July 2012 at 9:45 AM

Joints in general, but specifically shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.

estherau ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2012 at 8:58 AM

I'm not that good at posing, but I've found weightmapped figures quite easy to pose by dragging various body parts.  they seem to almost naturally fall into good poses.

Quote - Just to be clear, this conversion will work in Poser 9, and PoserPro 2012.

The task of staying within the limits set by DAZ3D, so as to protect their intellectual property, required a lot of creativity, and made this project particularly difficult. But it was felt that Poser users deserve figures that take advantage of the full feature set of P9/PP2012. Many Poser people have a large investment in V4, and V4~WM is another compelling reason to update to Poser 9 and PoserPro 2012.

A great deal of work has been put into making sure that things work as simply as possible. The V4~WM Crew at PoserPlace has put an heroic amount of effort into this project on behalf of the entire Poser Community, and they deserve a big round of applause!

lmk

So V4~MM will not work in anything prior to Poser 9/PoserPro 2012?

Inspired_Art ( ) posted Mon, 30 July 2012 at 7:22 PM

Sorry...apparently if it did, the readme would have said so.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 30 July 2012 at 8:03 PM

It's V4-WM, not -MM. -WM stands for Weight Mapped. And the point of it is to use the new Weight Mapping, introduced in Poser 9, PP2012.

So, no, you can't use weight mapping before Poser had weight mapping.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Hummm the download link doesn't work, can someone please post it? And also a link to the instructions for clothing if you don't mind?

Thanks

Eric Walters ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2012 at 10:15 PM

The links don't work for my ISP either- there is something you need to do to edit your DNS configuration (don't know what exactly) to make it accessible. Do some searches around the forums. The site is still there.

Something else, with those of us running W7 not allowing us to install things into the main program file.... what I found that works for me, at least, is to make a temporary folder on the desktop, unzip/unrar the files to that, then cut/paste the runtime into the main runtime folder. Works for me, every time.....

The easiest way is to put everything in a folder outside C:/Program Files, then there's no problem, even with old programs (at least 32 bit).

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 22 August 2012 at 7:48 PM

The cut & paste only guarantees that your content is place into the main Poser runtime.  However, under Win7 running UAC, you will be prevented from reading and writing files, features most of us use modify or create characters and clothing.

fonpaolo ( ) posted Thu, 23 August 2012 at 3:45 AM

One thing I forgot to say in the previous post, as clarification:

when I said "put everything in a folder outside C:/Program Files" means the whole installation, the program and his runtime(s).

Then disable UAC.

...but install a good antivirus and a firewall (that should be the norm, anyway).

Willber ( ) posted Thu, 06 September 2012 at 12:39 PM · edited Thu, 06 September 2012 at 12:39 PM

I had issues loading this in Win 7. Solved by using the TEMP FOLDER check box in the python script supplied....

Win7 has issues with writing into certain folders.

You will know when the figure has been corrected because it says DONE.

Also jump into the Set Up room and you can see the extra bones.

Hello All.

Forgive me if I have missed this in previous posts....

If I download the WM V4 into Poser9/2012 will I still be able to use the non-WM V4

if I choose to do so?

Thanks.

fonpaolo ( ) posted Fri, 07 September 2012 at 11:39 AM

Yes, you have another figure marked as "WM", you can still use both.

...but if you start, you can't stop using WM! 😉

Does this only work in Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 ?

It would be great if it worked in 2010 and 8 as well.

Where can I find this.

I like V4WM, she works great, and has clothing support in Wardrobe Wizard. Phantom3D over at poser place is also working on an M4WM as well.

fonpaolo ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2012 at 1:49 PM

I hope M4WM is still in development after that all the interest seems gone in direction of a new toy...

Me too. I enjoy not having creases in my bends anymore.

I am understanding that all this "new technology" is just an end in itself, no control, there's no chance to transfer it to other things that aren't made by them.

I hope that all the other cool experiments I've seen in these months will still be in development.

blbarrett ( ) posted Thu, 08 November 2012 at 1:11 PM · edited Thu, 08 November 2012 at 1:12 PM

I installed this V4WM and tracked down Outfitter last night. Works great!

outfitter did a great job converting Lemonaide from Alfaseed and the AMP set arm tubes. really slick!!!

I loaded Morphs++ , Base, and Elite, and they worked perfectly too.

Although I did run into a head morph INJ issue where the eyes were poking outside the face after loading.

I thought after reading through the thread, that perhaps the Head morph might have needed Aiko or some other morph set loaded first that I forgot.... I'm gonna test that theory tonight.

Any other suggestions?

A big Thank You to the team that brought this WM character to us!!!!!!!!

fonpaolo ( ) posted Thu, 08 November 2012 at 2:10 PM

Since it's mainly V4, all the morphs previously created for her will work with the WM version.

Sometimes that happens, but, as you suggested, try to load all the required morphs.

There may be few cases where it's the INJ corrupted or really not working properly.

Have you tried it with a normal V4?

blbarrett ( ) posted Thu, 08 November 2012 at 3:56 PM

Yeah, it works fine on regular V4..... probably just need to load another CORE morph pack first.... I'll let you know what happens :) It's a FRAD character, the name slipps my mind at the moment.

Prof_Null ( ) posted Fri, 09 November 2012 at 12:07 AM

Okay, bear with me since I only just got Poser Pro and have been using DAZ studio for a while. So V4 does NOT work in Poser Pro, but the new WM version will?  Gee, I had just assumed that it would load into Poser.

I am definitely looking forward to it: so far V5 and the Poser native figures have not impressed me anywhere as much as V4. Specially V5 out of the box (as it were), it just looks, well, ugly to me, not quite human.

Yes, a lot of the best stuff I know of is done by little indie folks, so I am not at all surprised by this.  I'll be getting it. :)

willyb53 ( ) posted Fri, 09 November 2012 at 12:35 AM

V4 works fine in all versions of Poser.  V4WM just works better in P9+.

Works . . . . better?  in what way?  better posing? more user adjustable?

blbarrett ( ) posted Fri, 09 November 2012 at 12:41 AM

Well, I solved the morph issue I mentioned above, the face morph required A4 moprhs, so that's working great.

Unfortunately, since I set up the WMV4 and converted the clothes.... poser pro 2012 is crashing like crazy.  I'm wondering if it might be that when I converted the clothes I did not desellect the body parts I did not need ( ex. for the gloves.... I just went with all the body parts).. could this be the problem?

I guess this is more of an Outfitter question that relates to WMV4 :)

Any help would be great.

Better bending wihtout JCMs and magnets, which also results in a less resource intensive figure.  (the only magnets left in V4WM are in the torso for breast control).

Check out the first couple of pages of this thread for renders
