Yup. It's available for download with user guide and everything :-)

Especial thanks to Basicwiz for writing the bulk of the documentation.

Download from Snarly's Space

MATHelper and SceneFixer had minor updates today too, if you feel like grabbing those while you're there.

Moving on to some other projects now ... :-)

Hi Snarlygribbly,

I cannot imagine Scene Fixer any better than it is already, but thank you for the updates.  Especially, EZSkin.  I never knew Poser people could look so good.

I haven't installed PPro SR2.1 yet. Will EZSkin v2 still work. What parts will work and what won't? Is there any benefit going to v2 without SR2.1?

Wonderful program Snarlygribbly BTW, just fantastic.

Thanks Snarly and bagginsbill :)  I have a question for you.... does the reset work just for the material settings, or does it set everything back to the default settings? Curious as I have messed with every setting, seeing what everything does, but my brain is old, and I can't remember what all the settings were when I first loaded EZSkin.  It would be nice if it set everything back to the defaults that you set up, so I have a starting point when something doesn't look the way I want it to. Thanks :)

SR2.1 is essential. Without it EZSKin would throw a wobbly, so I've placed a check in there for it before the script will even run ...

No, 'Reset' does not do that.

There is a file called 'ezskin-presets.cfg' which contains a single preset ('Default settings') which you can import into EZSkin using the 'Presets/Import preset' menu option. That preset will then appear in your presets menu and you can use it to reset all values to their defaults.

In practise, you might want to save your own default preset, so that it includes the 'Special Effects' folder that you are using - otherwise the included preset will set that back to blank each time!

Stephanie is, I believe, covered under Daz Gen 3 characters.

Not where I can check it right now, but believe Posette is covered as a SM figure or some other very broad catagory.

I'll stand corrected if this isn't the case, or until Snarley gets in to give a more difinitive answer.

At any rate, give these a try and see if they work.

On my system it is (correctly) identified as "Daz Gen 3."

Let me suggest that you re-import the supported characters file and select "All". If it works after that, you know you did not get Daz Gen 3 installed.

Thanks for your reply. I will give it another go! Could I ask one more question? How can I warm up or make a tanned skinned tone in EzySkin2? Other than the special effects I cannot see any other settings that might help! Cheers

Simple shifts in skin colour can be achieved using the 'Col' chip in the HSV settings found on the Skin tab.

You should choose a colour which is almost, but not quite white, as even a small change in the Col chip makes a very noticeable change in the skin colour. You may also need to very slightly increase the 'Value' parameter too to compensate for the darkening of the colour that occurs when you use anything other than white in the Col chip.

Note that once you have found some satisfactory vales for tanning the skin then you can save them as a preset for later use.

The usability with non-preconfigured figures and, moreover, props... and the ease with which the material definition can be adjusted... is simply excellent I reckon...

It's great that it can work for things like Gray aliens or beetles, as well as it can human skin... the image below, my main concern was making the alien gray enough in an otherwise fairly pink toned environment. Just a slight tweak of the Col chip in the HSV section was all it took.

All I'd ask for in a future update, Snarly, is an option to set the scatter node preset to something other than skin (e.g. the other presets of "marble",  "potato", "apple", etc) from the EZSkin UI....

Is that a possibility?

Many thanks 😄

Well, that is straying into EZSkin+ territory, but seeing as I was uploading a bugfix anyway, and because it was easy, I added it in :-)

v2.0.4 Has a drop down box to let you select the SSS preset for the skin shader.

It also fixes a bug whereby the Special Effects folder path would sometimes be inadvertantly overwritten with a blank path!

I also included a new ezskin-presets.cfg file with a set of defaults that includes the new drop down control.

I've got a silly question for ya. In EZSkin v1 there were the Draft/Preview/Final settings, I don't see those in V2. When I first apply the shader to the figure, what would be the equivilent settings to the three options from v1?

Draft:
Add Fresnel reflection = OFF; SSS Quality = 40%; Reflect quality = 20%
Eye reflections = Reflection map or nothing

Preview:
Add Fresnel reflection = OFF; SSS Quality = 60%; Reflect quality = 20%
Eye reflections: Prefer reflection map

Final:
Add Fresnel reflection = ON; SSS Quality = 80%; Reflect quality = 60%
Eye reflections: Real reflections

EZSkin v2 lets you create your own presets, and as many as you want. They get added to the Presets menu for your convenience.

I just gave it a go on the Millenium Horse; a rousing success!  I used the hair material on the coat, mane, tail and fetlocks, the nail material on the hooves, and the skin material on the inner ears, along with the appropriate eye and mouth materials.

Haven't gotten round to the MilHorse myself yet... but that looks superb WandW!

So far I've done the MilDog and MilBigCat... Songbird Remix... and quite a few insects... oh and just been using it on an Alien Facehugger from Freestuff, for the render I'm doing at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestion for the animals...it really does look much nicer.  I wasn't sure so I just used "hair" on whiskers.  I'm also curious as to when/what you would use sclerasimple and skintrans.

monkeycloud ( ) posted Fri, 16 November 2012 at 2:12 AM

I've been using BB's Thin Glass shader on some whiskers... when they are modelled as tubes this seems to work quite well ;-)

Sclerasimple is a shader for the sclera that does NOT have reflections. The ordinary sclera shader does have reflections. This shader is for cases when other parts of the eye have reflections on them (typically the cornea) and additional reflectivity of the sclera would be overkill. Using the sclerasimple shader can make the eye look better and save a lot of rendering time too.

The skintrans shader is exactly the same as the 'maybe' shader, just with a different name. In early versions of EZSkin the names didn't matter as they were not exposed to the user. Now that they are, I wanted to give this shader a better name while keeping the original name for backwards compatibility. The shader takes into account transparency and transparency maps and is primarily intended for those strange 'eyebrow' zones on some DAZ figures and the genital addons for many male figures, but may be useful in other cases too.
