Quote - What's the best option for making my own terrain that I can use in Daz?  I have an idea for a desert scene but don't have a desert, so I attempted to make something in Bryce and failed miserably.  I'm trying to learn that program but it hurts my brain it's so user unfriendly (compared to Daz).

I grabbed Terragen and it makes some nice images that can be used as a background, but no way to place it in Daz.

Vue looks amazing, btu I have no idea what the learning curve is on that.

Suggestions?

Vue's learning curve is pretty flat.  I just watched a few tutes on geekatplay.com and was making pretty nice stuff within a couple hours.  And of course.. there's Bryce3D.. I've seen some amazing stuff come out of bryce.

Just found this for making hair in Daz 4.5.  Just enter your email and and they'll send you a link to download the beta.

Haven't played with it much yet, but seems pretty awesome.

It seems to be hard to use but has nice results when it comes out right. Unfortunately so far it doesn't seem to work with Reality.  The hair is listed in the materials window, but nothing shows up in the render.  I had the same issue with fur materials from the Daz Supersuit.

If you want hair for Studio have you looked into "Look at my hair" by Alessandro? He uses Reality and his hair plugin seems very usable.

its pretty cool don't get me wrong, its just...oh my god, it makes me angry

I figured it wouldn't work in Reality, but I just wanted to see if I could make a better looking hair style for my characters
and it just doesn't seem to be the best means of doing so

I've been keeping an eye on that one, but last I saw there was no release date yet.  If it's out, I'd go buy it right now. This one is in beta and didn't cost me anything so I figured I'd give it a try.  Probably write to the creator and give him some feedback, ask about any plans for it to work in Reality. That's a good chunk of business he's missing if it doesn't.

Look at my hair doesn't look any friendlier, but it does seem easier to use
or maybe I just gotten so use to having a work space that lets me backtrack

but no kidding on that support for Reality

Paolo, what is the criteria for the RGB setting in the Light color model to work? It seems that if I changed a bulb to light, setting the RGB has no impact. However, it does when changing it in Lux. It appears to be hit and miss, sometimes it work, others it doesn't.

And time to ask a evil question ...

Will Reality 3 for Studio support Geometry Shells and Instances?

I'm afraid that I don't understand "hit or miss", the RGB color is used for the light.it seems to be working for me. Keep inmind that, if you look straight at the lit it will mostlikely appear white, even though it emits colored light. That's what happens in real life, the brightness of the light appeara white un camera. You can use the "Preserve light hue" option to see it colored.

geometry shells should be working today, instances are scheduled for Reality 3.

i downloaded that hair plug-in and checked it out a bit.  I'm probably not creative or patient enough for it.  I, did, however see where you can save the hair you make with it as a hair character/prop(not sure which).  I wonder if you saved it, deleted it off your character and then re-added it if Reality would dig it a bit more?  Being as how it seems you can add hair to any surface on Genesis, I wonder too if you can add it to things like shoes(fur cuffs), clothing(fur coats, etc)?  If you can, that would be pretty cool.

Here is an example. This is the scene, with the light bulbs changed to light (another one behind the Reality window). The default is orange, and I selected the RBG option and picked green. The second one (invisible) is left as is.

This is the scene in Lux. The bulbs are still orange. If I change it in the second one to green, it shows as green.

Doc, I can't see much from the images, they are very small but it seems that the light that you set to gree has also a texture. I woil guess that the texture is orange. Have you tried removing the texture?

Looks cool, I have Terragen but I've never played with it! Shame the free version is limited but I can understand why!

Here's a lava preset from Infinito used with Reality.Lighting is IBL and the Infinito terrain converted to a lightsource. Old render but really helps show off how well they both plug ins work together :D

Very cool, hopefully I can grab Infinito soon.

Right now I seem to have gotten myself addicted to Bryce.  I spent last night and this morning working through tutorials and have all the basics down.  Now it's time to work on photorealism.  Where's my Reality for Bryce?

Yes, if that's the one that includes the Body Jewels, and sweat and tears. I've also used the second and the third additions to that. Works well. I've used it on M4 and also on Genesis/M5. I've used it in Poser and in DAZStudio. Sometimes (not always) you have to play around with it a bit, tweaking the arms or the legs.

Just getting back about the Jepe's Project. The ones I've bought are the following: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/jepes-project-m4-jewels-and-tears

Looks to me like Jepe may have updated the Project M4 Body and Facial Hair to add these jewels and tears. If you look through the renders on the daz site, you'll see the hair options are apparently included. But, for the record, this is the one I bought: lthe jewels and tears. And, it does work very nicely. So nicely, in fact, that i also bought:

http://www.daz3d.com/shop/jepes-body-jewels-2

and http://www.daz3d.com/shop/jepe-s-body-jewels-3

I've used them all in both Poser and DAZStudio. You can add a Geometry Shell, if you like, over the Genesis or M5 character (I've used them on Genesis and M5, too, not just M4), and then add the body jewels or hair to that.

You can add layers, or several Geometry Shells. On one, you can have hair, on another, sweat or tears, and on a third, the body jewels.

Anyway, hope this helps.

I've been looking at how much I've spent on this Daz studio venture so far, $1,274/ 1800 hours, as far as I can tell.  Thats over seven or so years though.

Then again I still do not consider myself as well versed in the feild.

It does help, I did puchase Jepes Project M4 Body and Facial Hair, however, I am very confused by what they mean to conform two M4's.  I have no clue how to do that.  I understand that you aply the hair to the second M4 but not sure to to link the two together.  I did send you an email..  so we don't hijeck this thread.

Let alone how to create a Geomerty shell.. I don't even know that that is.. I feel like such a noobie..

Hi, Amethst25: OK, I just answered your email. If you have more questions, just email me again. Glad to help. Geometry Shells are in the latest 4.5 verison of DAZStudio, by the way. It's in one of the pull-down menus. Select your figure. Find the pull-down menu. Choose "Create Geometry Shell," or something like that.

Ha you are using 8 I was going to ask if everything was comaptible I have a chance to purchase the upgrade for free Microsoft sells it for $15.00 I qualify for the time period and HP gives it back to you in a current promo. I prolly will get it & perhaps upgrade once we know all is compatible

I like Windows 8, especially with the Start8 menu from Stardock. I've not been able to use Lux GPU rendering as it causes a crash each time. It might be my scene, I don't know. Reality works fine, so I'll install Windows 8 again sometime in the future.
