Subject: Victoria 4.2 not showing up in Poser 2012

AnneWertheim ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 6:04 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 7:54 AM

I just bought Victoria 4.2 and installed in Poser 2012 via the Daz 3d Install Manager on a Mac.

The Install Manager tells mes I installed Victoria 4.2 Base, Base PoerLoader, Base StudioCF.

But I can't find her in my figure library.

Can anybody help me figure out what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Anne

Can't tell you how because I don't use DIM, but think there is a way to check within the app to find out where it installed the product.  Also mkae sure you had it set up to download and install the Poser files and not the Daz Studio files.

I got it working!

I just restarted my Mac and all of a sudden, Victoria showed up.

What a relieve.

Welcome to the Poser community.  Glad to have you as a new member.

As far as V4 -

1st rule - never allow a DAZ installer to run a default location - always default to a temporary location (I have a temp folder on my desktop) - this will allow you to look at the file structure and do maintenance if any is needed.

You are not doing anything wrong.  DAZ installers are designed to get products into Daz Studio 4 - they are not designed to get things into Poser.  Be happy that you weren't around back in the bad old days of the bitrock and the earlier VISE installers - DAZ played all kinds of games with where products defaulted to.

DAZ doesn't have a standard install location for products sold at DAZ.  They scatter files all over your hard drive & depend on meta-data to ensure that it shows up in Daz Studio 4.

If you want to know where V4 is installed - use spotlight to look for the file:

blMilWom_v4B.obj - This is the obj file that is used for V4 (and SP4, G4, A4, SF4)

/Runtime/Geometries/DAZPeople/blMilWom_v4B.obj

That runtime holds your V4.

On a mac, your default Poser 2012 content library is:

Users//Shared/Poser Pro 2012 Content

The Application, Poser 2012, also has a runtime - do not install content there, only install python scripts.  (It's a long story, just go with it.)

My recommendation is to make a separate runtime for your V4 figure (Actually, I recommend that you make a separate runtime for EACH of your figures).

As an example I have a folder named:

Additional Runtimes

No, it isn't clever - it is very clear however.  Inside that runtime I have (among others):

V4, V4 Clothes (because I have WAY too much V4 clothing), Antonia, M4, Michelle, Apollo Maximus, Modern Homes, Science Fiction, etc.

Each folder has it's own individual runtime - when working on a scene, I just add the runtimes that I need via the "add library" button, so Poser 2012 is most responsive.

Final note - "Initializing" V4.  To add morphs to V4, you have to "initialize" it.  The initialization file hides in the !DAZ folder that sits in your libraries subfolder. Look for:

DzCreateExPFiles-V4.command (This initializes V4.)

DzCreateExPFiles-V4-V3.command (This initializes the V4-V3 hybrid.)

The following products require initialization:

Victoria 4, V4++ Morphs, Aiko 4, V4 Muscle Morphs, She Freak 4, Creature Morphs for V4, The Girl 4, V4 Elite Body Shapes, V4 Ethnic Faces, Stephanie Elite Base for V4 (SP4), and NPM for SP4

If you get M4, the following products also require initialization:

M4 Base, M4 Morphs, Hiro4Base, Vladimir, Freak4, Freak 4 Character Morphs, M4 Elite Body Shapes, Freak Creature Expansion, M4 Ethnic Faces, Morphus, and Morphus Gens.

In addition, the M4 gens requires a seperate initialization.  Don't waste your money getting the "Pro" bundle if you want M4 to have "toast" - better "toast" are over at male poser erotica - google it.

That was REALLY helpfull! Thank you so much for going into the different details. I totally will install different runtime folders for my figures.

MIght you also know, how to use the DAZ "Ethnicity for Genesis: African" runtimes?

I do have the required DSON Importer installed, but don't see where I can change my genesis figure into a different ethnicity.

The new DAZ install manager actually does a good job of installing Poser content properly. A lot better than the old installers. At least now they stick to one standard way of installing. Any problems are fixed by updates. Slowly all old content is being released. I wasn't aware I had actually obtained so much from DAZ over the years. Currently just over 700 products have been installed and almost daily new ones come in (keep running it once a day to check for updates and new releases). My only objection is that it doesn't remember my password (seems a bit ridiculous you have to type it every time and there isn't an option to remember it).

Now I do need some tool to clear everything from my old runtimes (several products have been installed in 3 different runtimes now).

I also separate my runtimes by figure, then hair (because I can usually make it fit any figure, whether it's conforming or prop hair), props, etc.

If you throw everything into one runtime you'll soon realize you can't find a thing. LOL

If you throw everything in one runtime you will soon go INSANE!  Of course too many runtimes can be a pain also.  Best to develope a system early on and try to stick to it.

Attached Link: http://www.runtimedna.com/ShaderWorks-Library-Manager-2.6.html

Also if you have multiple runtimes you can download something from rendero eg an outfit with clothes and mat files and just drop it into your folder that contains all your external runtimes.

Too many runtimes is not a pain when you have the shaderworks library manager - see link.  In fact it is very quick and easy and has multiple advantages.

I also have a script which semidieu gave me which loads a whole folder full of external runtimes into poser in one hit.

Sow hen your clothes and mats are in the same folder it is very easy to find the matching mat files and matching poses that you might need.

Life in poserland is good for me.

BTW i have  a mac too.

MY ONLINE COMIC IS NOW LIVE

I aim to update it about once a month.  Oh, and it's free!
