Subject: Installing Anastasia (Poser 2012)

dustinw ( ) posted Sat, 30 March 2013 at 2:15 AM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 11:25 AM

Hello,

I am new to poser, and after reading a few articles and seeing some videos, I was convinced to purchase Anastasia.

After following the installation instructions (copying the "Runtime" folder to the poser install directory). I fire up Poser, load the Alyson 2 model, and go to the "Poses". However, I don't see the Blackhearted folder. I tried searching, but still nothing.

Am I missing something? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Poser Pro 2012 has a separate content runtime it should be in your user documents folder put the parts there

You can't put content in the main program folder (such as Program Files/SmithMicro/PoserPro....etcc). There is a content folder under Users/"YourComputerName"/MyDocuments/PoserPro2012 Content (if you  have Windows 7). Other versions of Windows should have something comparable. If you're on a Mac I don't have a clue...lol. You should put your content there OR Create a separate runtime anywhere you like and as long as it has the proper folder structure, you can link to it from within Poser.

If you are new to Poser, it might be easier if you just go to the Content tab, select "Install from Zip archive" wait for the pop up and then  navigate to the Anastasia file,(whereever it is stored on your  computer) click Open and then click Install to  upload and then after you get the message that says "File operations done" (usually within a few seconds) look in  your library under downloads. If your installed content library is not visible, you will need to add it to the list of libraries.

It may not be the preferred method of many, but it works fine for me.

Online Now!

Before we get ahead of ourselves trying to solve the problem, the OP should exactly detail their installation and operating system information rather than post the initial problem.  This is an issue that has been around for quite a long time and has been addressed extensively.  It is a time saver.

Like hborre stated:

Tell us step by step how you installed Anastasia.

I apologize for my delayed response, and sincerely appreciate the great community here for their responses.

I feel like a fool for not noticing the "install from zip" option earlier. Using that method worked for me. Previously I had installed the files in my "program files/smith micro/poser pro 2012/runtime" directory, which did not work.

For future reference for anyone else who stumbles upon this thread, I'm running Windows 8 Pro (64 bit). It's actually on a Microsoft Surface Pro.

Thanks again for all those who responded with the very helpful information.

Wait....ur running Poser on a Suface tablet??? How much oomph is in that thing? (and why is there a very large space before mine and everyone elses posts? LOL)

Yup! It's a Surface Pro. Which is capable of running legacy (Windows 7  desktop software) http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/surface-with-windows-8-pro/home

Admittedly a bit expensive for a tablet, but you pay for performance, right? :)

So let us know if it actually runs or just crawls

I've been running it without any problems. Navigating, manipulating and such works well. I'd say the worst problem is some of the buttons/controls can be difficult to tap, but when using the stylus that came with it the tablet, it's not really an issue.

Rendering takes time, of course, but I don't have much of a comparison for how long renders typically take in Poser, as I'm new to it. But, after installing Anastasia, and rendering one of the setups that is included with it (model, pose, lights, backdrop), it renders in probably ~2 minutes.

The tablet hasn't had problems with much of anything I've thrown at it. I've loaded Mass Effect 2, Bulletstorm, and a couple other games, and it runs them well. Typically at 720p, with around medium settings. Obviously not a gaming PC, but it definitely holds it's own.

If you'd like to know anything else, I'd be happy to help, as you've all been helpful to me.

First off, welcome!  :)

Quote - ... It's actually on a Microsoft Surface Pro.

A tablet is not an effective tool for creating 3D art.

  • It lacks the video processing power required to maintain smooth performance in the Preview window as you add content to your scenes.
  • It lacks the drive space required to store your content as you build your collection.
  • It lacks the RAM and CPU power required to quickly render your final images.

Bottom line, you're going to quickly find the Surface woefully inadequate for your needs as a burgeoning artist.

But, after installing Anastasia, and rendering one of the setups that is included with it (model, pose, lights, backdrop), it renders in probably ~2 minutes.

That render time will increase sharply when working with more complex scenes.

Video games use visual effects that are baked in to the software.  There's no raw processing power required to render them.

Thank you for the tips! I don't plan on using the Surface as my primary machine. It's a toy, but a fairly capable one, and thought I'd share my experience, since others seemed interested. :)

I have a desktop machine both at home and work that are more than capable machines. As well as a fairly capable laptop. While I don't have the experience with Poser, I do have experience with other 3d modeling software. 3ds max and zbrush are part of my stable of software. Though rendering can be a chore in 3ds max as well.

Again, just sharing my experience with the Surface Pro. It wouldn't be the choice of an artist, I'm sure, but I'm still impressed with what it can do. After effects, premiere and photoshop as well. Though stylus pressure sensitivity in Photoshop isn't currently working (Adobe has mentioned an update to resolve the problem).

I am starting over with Poser. I bought the Poser 12 Pro. Its installed, but I am just now getting content. I backed off of Poser 9 the first time because of how difficult it was for me to understand the file structure and the Runtime libraries.

Well, now I have my first zip file so you can see how my search brought me here. I think the option to install from zip may be the only way for me to go.

I don't want to screw this one up. I have lots of old Poser 9 and Daz content spread around my computer and my USB hard drive.

I intially started setting up my files a couple of years ago, following one of the tutorials here, I even bought a couple of books but found there is more than one way to approach Poser files and I think I ended up with a hybrid system.

So, now I have this zip file sitting on my external hard drive in a folder cascade F: > My Poser Files > Downloaded Zip Files. I also have a files structure that I created from the tutorial that remains on my C drive at C:Poser Content, which has children folders of >Accessories, Clothing_Female, Clothing_male, Figures_Hair, FIgures_People, and Renders. Each of these folders contains a Runtime Folder.

When I installed Win8, I moved everything that I could find related to Poser or Daz to this F:My Poser Files but beyond that, all I have done is try not to trash my stuff.

What's the best way to start a salvage?
