Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Quote - Wow, Reality 3 is an eye opener. I was thinking that coming from Reality 2 much of it would be second nature, but after a couple of days I see I was wrong. I miss the sliders for values and trying to understand the different skin setting values is a nightmare, similar to trying to see what the different SSS nodes did in poser.

Most of it is automatic, you don't need to tweak the SSS at all, in most cases. Of course you can change the mat toGlossy and you will be back into Reality 2 land.

Quote - I am so used to not setting an exact render dimension in poser and just going with the preview size, but now I have to since Reality tells me to, bummer.

This is the same than Reality 2, you must use a camera with a set resolution. It's also easy to fix in Poser:

  • Create a new scene

  • Set the size that you want to be by default, for example 1280x720

  • Call the preferences and set "launch to preferred state"

  • Click on "Set Preferred Scene"

From that point on you don't have to set the size of the scene.

Quote - I also can't get copy and paste to work, probably a setting that is confusing me. I don't usually look at documentation, kind of a hands on person, but I guess it's time to visit the RUG.

This should be just as usual, what is not working for you?

I'm pleased to see implementation of the volume parameter  in R3.

For me, the lack of it in R2 for DAZ is my biggest problem.

It adds depth that was sorely lacking.

Great.

I was thinking of moving to Poser and R3.

That said, I haven't used Poser for at least ten years. And I do like the Genesis features of Studio 4.  So I'll probably wait for the Studio version of R3.

Just trying out some pose and hand presets for some of the range of guns from motokamishii. This one is the BRM92 (Beretta M92).

Gemma is using the Weaver Stance (ish).

Hi Callad

I am having problems with the Gel Cam, everything else works beautifully however when I add the Gell cam add the gell, change the material to light in Luxus and enable it. But it still just shows as white light.

What am I doing wrong? I know I must be missing a step but I can’t work out what.

Thanks.

Hi Sparkless, please keep in mind that my set was designed for use with Reality, not Luxus. In Reality it works without having to adjust anything.

I think you make a mistake by turning the Gelmask itself into a light. You should turn the 'RealityLight GEL 1 (2) or (3)' into a light which is a very tiny light. It is so tiny you almost won't see it in your viewport.

For the Projectors you should turn the 'RealityLight Mini 1 (2) or (3)' into a light.

If it still does not work you can always ask the creator of Luxus to help you out on this one. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/18543/P1275

Hope this helps.

sparklesss ( ) posted Sun, 14 April 2013 at 10:58 AM

Thanks  Callad from your reply it looks like I was switching on the right light, and everything else including the projector works really well, so I have asked on the Daz forum and hopefully will get a reply there. So far your light set is amazing, and I have had fun playing with it.

Thank you.

I created this picture with the projector from your set.

sparklesss ( ) posted Sun, 14 April 2013 at 11:50 AM

For those here who are trying to learn Luxus, HeraldOfFire told me that with the gells, you need to turn the light on, and then go to each gell and turn it into glass, then change the transmission colour to match the the gell.

It then works fine, phew.

A wonderful image Sparkless!

I read you have gotten your answer about the Gel-Cam too. I did not mention setting the GEL mask to glass, for Reality automatically recognizes the mask as being made of glass. :)

No I am sure Luxus is a decent product (I am passed this vs that) I am just used to the way Reality works & it's simplicity. I know Luxus has more options at this point, I am just not interested in having to figure out that I need to manually type formulas to accomplish what I want to do. R3 will allow all those same options without having to worry about all of that..

I see some nice stuff with the poser users but there seems to be issues also, but knowing you and your exellent CS issues will be resolved. Its like any new softare that gets put out..

It's looking like I am going to be operational again round Wens have 2 commish projects waiting I hope all will run smoothly with Win 8. Sounds like it will...

sparklesss ( ) posted Sun, 14 April 2013 at 10:19 PM

For me the issue was purely price, for a while my budget has been severely limited and hobbies have had to take second place. So at $10 I could afford to take a chance and see if I liked it.

From what I have seen reality is a great program as well, once I would have bought both and seen which one I found the easiest, now price tends to dictate what I can and cant buy.

Hi Bob.

The Poser environment is a lot different and there are many variables in there. Because of the node-base materials it is a lot harder to provide conversions of materials than the Studio system.

Also, Reality 3 provides support for almost all the Lux procedural textures, something that is not present in Reality 2. This situation provides the conditions for more complications.

When the first version of Reality was released we had a similar development. A lot is also caused by inexperience. The posts in the forum today, almost a a week after the release, are very positive and in fact we see the first renders.

There is another update that we are testing right now and that will go our probably next week, after the testers verify that everything is in order.

That update fixes a few crucial issues and speeds up the export substantially.

Cheers.

I have no interest / need in poser... By what experienced artists like Mike are saying Studio seems easier to use...

You can say that again, LOL. For the years I used poser the node aspect of the material room is the one thing that never made any sense to me. Pretty sad considering i mastered the cloth room. The slight instances of the node system in the Reality UI are throwing me off a bit, but hopefully I will figure it out. I expected to be cranking out a few renders to support the product for the poser users to see by now, but due to being lost with the new UI and the clumbsyness of Poser after having gotten use to DS, I have yet to produce any

Mike, I will be making videos that show how to use the new Reality Material Editor. Once you get the logic of it, which is rather simple, you will see how easy is to work with it.

I think that it's much simpler than using nodes.

Not harder, just different than DS and the Reality UI is different than what we are used to with DS. I would not suggest getting it just to play with Reality as there is a learning curve like any software. I still have poser 7 installed as it was my fav version and most stable. I hate the library palette in Poser 2012. for me it is slow to load and now that i have been spending more time with it, I find it freezes sometimes to where I have to save the scene and then restart poser, what a pain. I feel those that are die hard poser users have never used DS, since that is how I was

Bob.. I considered it.  But, I chalked it up to lessen learned and will be working with the softness of my shadows more in the future.  The reason I didn't postwork them out is that I didn't want to detract from the quality of the skin texture on her.  Blurring, cloning or smudging would have ruined her skin in a few places.

Can't say for sure how to fix the jagged edges in Poser, I just know how to fix it in Reality 2.5.

I usually raise the subdivide on the parts of the skin and it takes care of the jagged edges. Works too on outfits.
