I think it would be best if they sent me a free copy to test, anyway.  ;-)

(...since I am about $239 short of the $239.99 sidegrade from P9)

Quote - It does say under the system requirements that a "recent NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon required for advanced real-time preview features". So, yes, you will need a modern graphics card for these features (raytraced preview and real-time physics I assume). I have a GTX 670, so I should be fine.

Raytraced preview is 100% CPU. It's running on a combination of FireFly's shader engine and a highly optimized CPU ray tracing core. The same ray tracing core is of course also used for regular renders.

Ah, good to know. Thanks. So the above statement only refers to the OpenGL requirements?

Correct. The raytraced preview of course benefits from many fast CPU cores.

Excellent. I should be OK with my 6-core i3930K.

Thank you very much for the clarification. I appreciate it.

I have found all live previews (with auto update checked), without exception, can slow things down to an annoying level. Things will freeze as it tries to update. I'm not saying they are not handy, because they are a nice tool to have...but I have always found myself unchecking any auto-update or giving it the lowest priority level. Please tell me this feature has user definable levels of priority???

Stewer should answer the question about priority for the raytraced preview. But in any case you can set the RT preview in the window itself to auto or manual refresh.

Well Darrell, the man who modeled and rigged Alyson 1 and Alyson 2 rigged Roxie. He also retopologised her based on my sculpts with Poser in mind. So far, everyone who has used her says she's among the best we've done to date.

Very true about auto-preview slowing things down. It does with the Vue preview.

I'd just use it as a sort of test renderer for when it is needed, and disable it as auto.

It's my birthday at midnight, and I'm just giddy about this late present...

It does suck to buy a program right before a new release, but I was planning to either buy Shade 13 on sale for $375 or raid my savings for Modo!

Now I can just wait for a version of the program I like that can finally do all of the things I have always wished it could.  PP2014 is going to be a hard act to follow!

I'm just not sure if linking to linkedin would be against ToS. My last link to deviantart asking for critiques was deleted, so I'm a bit wary about posting outside links here.

There are no priority selections at this point, since unfortunately thread prioirities do not behave the way we would like them to behave. For the technical details, see the link, or if you just want the money quote: "Set up your threads at normal priority and let the operating system deal with scheduling them. No matter how brilliant a programmer you may be, I can practically guarantee you won't be able to outsmart the programmers who wrote the scheduler in your operating system."

Unfortunately, having no full time employment at the moment, this sucks for me. But I am curious about the fitting room.  I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone (either and SM employee or an ambassador) can answer.

  1. Do we need and have development rigs for ALL the figures, including the new ones, REX and ROXIE?

  2. I have the darnedest time rigging dresses for conforming. Does the new version address this issue at all? Could someone post a dress conformed in this way to a figure?

There are plenty of personal websites in sig's, twitter accounts, etc.

I would think that an About.me or Flavors.me link would not be a problem...though I dont think I remember the TOS.

But we still can completely disable the raytraced preview, can we ?

It isn't an "all or nothing" feature tied to the rest of the preview settings ?

I've spent a lot of time optimizing my lights and skin shaders to perfectly work with the OpenGL hardware shading preview, so my need for an additional raytraced preview showing me what's going on in my render is pretty much nil right now.

(See demo pic: Full SSS render on the left, OpenGL on the right)

If "Enhance multilayer transparency" wouldn't massively slow down my OpenGL preview, I might actually stop rendering at all. Lol.

But seriously, basically the only things useful for me among the new PP-2014 features will be the Firefly speed improvements, but if they come at the cost of slowing my OpenGL preview down, even those would be useless.

It's a separate window that you open or close with a Window command when you want to use it. Once open, you can either have it refresh automatically, or whenever you click a button to refresh it.

If you don't open it, it will not do anything.

The ray traced preview is independent of the OpenGL preview. It's in a separate window and runs in a separate thread.

I'm out.  I copied/pasted together a spreasheet of  everything new, versus P2012 (I only have P9), and for me it came down to a list of 8 features that would cost me $240 on sidegrade.  None of them are a must-have, so I am going to wait for 2012 price to drop like a rock after the 2014 release, and grab my GC and render speed 64-bit improvements.

Now if they still have the 60% off Memorial Day coupon...well, then I'm back in!

Have fun with it!  :tongue1:

If somebody wants to know how layered clothing will do in the fitting room.

load pants

load pullover => pullover goes over pants. => 2 layers.

load jacket => jacket goes over pullover and pants = 3 layers at some places.

Export the lot as a single object. Now that is gonna be a problem right???
2 ( two ) yes, one plus one minute later.

Fitted, rigged morphs transferred, and conformed.

Still doesn't answer my question about dresses though. V4 has a lot of them if I want to do any converting.

I remember way back when i started that wishlist thread on RDNA that I wanted something like this (like Shrinkwrap or Autofit) and it looks like they granted my wish. That's all well and good, but I'd like to see what happens if you try to fit a conforming skirt to another figure.

Can someone please make this happen? Pretty please?

It's hard to say, most of the users are in Japan.  But it does host Poser scenes, and the renderer looks nice.  Not sure how it will work with PP2014, as it doesn't have bullet integrated.

But (yup, as there always is one =) ) what's about the cloth room, for example?

I use dynamic cloths almost exclusively now, for my renders/work/ ermm "art" (LOL). I think the cloth room is such an amazing feature/tool already in Poser and still has so much more potential.

Are there any improvements/changes to the cloth room of PP2014 / P10?

A thought just came to my mind. You remember how popular Posette was. Roxie and Rex have the potential to become Posette 2014 and Dork 2014 (although ... poor Rex ... can we just keep him at Rex 2014, because he's not dorky! LOL)

Anyway, they're very nice, and very versatile. The team did a good job on them. I can't wait to see what the community does with them once they get out there.
