Does Blender have a particle System? Cheers

Yup does particles and  hair; also physics like fluid, wind,rigid and soft body, etc. It's pretty wicked.

Just downloaded Blender.Where do I find the particle section? The manual does not say how to find them! Cheers

After adding a mesh object look in the properties panel for an icon that looks like a tick with a ball on top. This will open up to display all the different simulation types.

For smoke remember that it requires a domain for which a cube appears to work best.

For tutorials you can go to blendercookie.com or blenderguru.com. Andrew Price has some decent smoke/particle tutorials (but does tend to waffle on a bit)

Until Cycles has "Volume" fully implemented, you'll find smoke (and clouds, all that) more of a Blender Internal thing. Keep in mind that BI will eventually go the way of the dodo.

there is a "quick smoke" under object/quick fx it will set up the domain etc but you still have the settings to tweak for the effect you want

 

since I have seen you asking about particles in the poser forum just want to point out whatever you do in blender wont go into poser without a fight

Many thanks for your replies. I am trying to find the easiest program that I can attach smoke onto the funnels of ships. I have Vue 11 Infinite but I cannot any longer afford the upgrades and maintenance programs. I thought maybe blender could import at least an animated Poser ship as an obj or a 3ds and I could apply smoke there! However the learning curve looks extensive! I will have to stick with Vue 11 Infinite. Cheers

An example of Particle-based hair:

Eyebrows and eyelashes. Rendered in Blender 2.67(Linux) Cycles. Shaders are being developed specifically for hair. Still, pretty amazing even without the shader.

Working on hair itself, now.

Yes, it's Antonia ... I'm in process of rigging her for Blender (using Rigify) and creating hair atm using particle hair. I'm not in much of a hurry - time limits exist - so all this is going to take a while.

@Arrow yeah you can do that m8 or you could render your smoke in blender as png then use them on prims in poser or paint the smoke in your paint proggy(there is smoke brushes for free I think)

if you have great search-fu check out bagginsbill on rdna and here, I know he did smoke in poser but was a good few years ago so dunno how hard it would be to find

 

@RV looking good hun but for me you have overdone the eyebrows a bit maybe reduce number of hairs??
