I like the sound of that Paolo, I can see myself making floors and wooden furiniture etc - now I'm looking forward to Reallity 3 for DS
Yes, the power of procedural textures is quite nice to have. Glad that you like it John.
Cheers.

Got all the parts in for my cousins and my machines so I get to start building here as soon as we get the apartment furnished
I'm very sorry. I know how painful it is to lose a pet. You have my regrets.
Quote - Help! Reality often just shuts down with win 8 any way around that?
No.
Ok, I guess you want more than that. There is something which prevents Reality from loading 90% of the time on a Windows 8 x64 system. It will eventually load, but my advice is to use Windows 7 x64. There is a planned update for Windows 8 later this year, might be best to hold off until then. I am.

Win 8 came with my new system but there is a right to roll back to 7. That's prolly what I will wind up doing also the lux files that I transferred from the old to the new machine wont save properly even though I have the same version path and collected textures on both its infuriating!

I would do that.
Re Lux, if you have the exact same path on the new machine as specified in the *.lxs file, then it should save properly. Reality currently has an issue where it hardcodes the path in the *.lxs file (approx line number 14):
"string filename" ["F:/Renders/"Room Of Mirrors"]
I edit it so it reads
"string filename" ["Room Of Mirrors"]
before transferring anything to another machine.
Quote - Its seems kind of silly ot me that anyone purchasing a newer system would unable to use Reality. Anyhoo I would I edit this file to work on the new machine?
They are still able to use it, it would just be a hit & miss affair. Maybe this will be easier with R3.
Yes, you edit that file and change line 14 so that it looks like this:
Quote - I wonder whay that is.... Maybe it works better with an nvidia card?
There is not interaction with the video card and Reality whatsoever.
It's just Microsoft :)

If you look at past releases of Windows, each and every one has broken something. MS is simply unable to deliver a software that is backward compatible.

Let me correct my earlier post. I just started another reality render and had to click the Reality icon 3 times before it started up. This happens very seldom but this might be what you guys are talking about. It is a minor irritation, because when Reality starts it works fine. This problem only happens in DS not poser. Sorry I had forgotten about this when I first posted.

1st Hybrid render on both machinesHah John, you are a spring chicken! Mine is 5 years older :)
Callad is ok, I think. I heard from her last week.
Anybody got this?

It doesn't seem to play nice in Reality.

I was curious about that myself. For 3.50 I bet its OK. Likely however, it is using some sort of magic shader and those never play well with Reality.

Thanks guys for letting me know Reality will open in 8. Got some rendering done marked improved render times. I have to call where I got my system since my front USB 3 ports are not active I will plead with them to let me get 7 on it.Attached Link: http://bobvan.deviantart.com/art/Island-38-371243247?q=gallery%3Abobvan&qo=1

One ugly MFOIt has been awhile since I rendered something. This took just over 200 hours, due to the infinite mirror reflections.
Treasure
It does. One needs to adjust the Geometry settings on the Modifiers section, as it uses Displacement maps. Set Subdivision to e.g. 2 and check Use Micro Facets.

I had the same problem where it would take a couple of goes before it would load. Sometimes I had to shut DS down, restart and reload the scene before Reality would load. Way too much hassle, especially after x number of times.
I'll try it again once the Windows 8 update has been released, and Reality3 for DS is available.

It is very similar, it's an extension of it. You can see it in action if you watch any of my Reality 3 videos on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/user/PretA3D
The window partitions the action in the usual tabs: Materials, Lights, Camera etc. The main change is that the Output tab, which was always too crowded has been renamed Render and it's neatly organized in smaller groups. Nothing dramatic there.
The main change in the material editor is that, where in Reality 2 you have a fixed combination of color and an image map, now you can use any of the texture types available from Lux. For example, you can have a mix texture that mixes two textures together. Those two texures can be an image map and a swirly pattern made with the "Distorted noise" texture. Where before we had only the material preview now there are also preview for the procedural textures. For example, you can add a Wood texture (see video) and you see the wood pattern change as you edit the parameters. It's pretty cool.
Unlike other systems, Reality 3 achieves all this power without using nodes. It uses a more familiar system of "drilling down" the levels and navigating back, similarly to a web browser.
The familiar material types are there too, with the addition of Skin (with SSS) and Cloth.
There is the addition of the Volumes, which can be used for really neat effects. You can see how simple they are to use in the video aboiud creating a beam of light.
The big difference is also that Reality is a separate program that runs in parallel with the hosting application, Poser or Studio. This means that Reality does not block you from using Poser. You can keep the Reality window open while you go back to Poser and adjust the scene. The same will be for Studio. I think that that is actually a great improvement.
With this system Reality retains the whole set of settings for the rendering in one single window, which is convenient to control all the aspect of rendering, material editing etc.
Hope this helps.
