I know what you mean I had the same thing but did you ever try to unistall Reality and trouble shoot install it?  I may go by the shop later on when its open see if they would let me try if it all pans out I will let you know. Just curious if you had tried this before packing it in.  Everything else was working for me..

Believe me, my testing routines differ from most people. If I remember correctly, I installed Windows 8 something like 5 times in a week, trying different combinations, etc. Besides, there are other programs which I had issues with as well. So, it was better to return to Windows 7 from a broader perspective.

Thanks for that I will let them roll back to 7 for me as well then

Paolo, I've got an R2 question for you when you get a moment. I'm working on a rather large animation sequence and decided to go with the low discrepancy/hilbert algorithm for better quality, aside from SLG not being able to handle the larger scenes I'm running. I based my samples off a single frame run of 25, but the queue'd images are running up to 64.14. Is this a default setting?

They still look good, but as you might imagine, the render times go up exponentially, in this case, by several days. Each frame is averaging around 18 minutes, plus or minus 30 seconds or so.

I actually don't have an answer for that, sorry. There are situations where Lux will not stop at exactly the give number of frames, because of internal computing that cannot be stopped at that point. I'm not an expert of that area but it could be very well the case.

Cheers.

No problem, more of a curiosity. It's still super cool to see a scene come to life and move on its on. Almost like looking through a time machine's windshield. Thanks for the quick reply!

Apparently I was gone so long I didn't know Doc had been absent  By the way, Doc, how do you manage to get so many props into studio without it hanging up? I've run into issues when I get around 40 props or so that Studio begins to utterly crawl. I'be begun to conjecture that studio has issues with lots of geometry, much like when one tries to put X numbers of Gen 4 characters into a scene. I've got tons of RAM when such issues arrise, but Studio damn near becomes unresponsive.

Any tips?

Thanks Kim!

Multiple props are not as bad a multiple Gen 4 characters plus clothing. I use 64bit Windows, latest 64bit DS beta, and 16GB of memory. One thing I have learned is not to render and create a new scene at the same time. Once I'm happy with my scene, I transfer it to the laptop for rendering. That way I can create a new scene, etc, and not have a slowdown.

bobvan ( ) posted Wed, 15 May 2013 at 12:19 PM

Yeah I have that issue with my notebook (multi tasking) its better on the new 32G workstation still if its gets too bad I can set scenes on the notebook while rendering on the workstation if needed.. It just makes sense to do most of the rendering on the workstation since it runs cool all the time..

Is it possible to degrade cpu Ghz after overclocking? (4.4ghz @56C now 4ghz @66C)

My 8150 is not dead. but its temp has increased 10C, even taking ambient temp and drop in Vcore/ghz into account.

And I've reseated the heatsink with Artic compound.

Should say also thats full load.

Quick question about Lux do threads equal RAM? If that is the case why is my new mcahine also showing 8 threads?

Pret-a-3D ( ) posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 7:57 PM

A thread is a unit of paaeallel execution. The number o thread is equal to the number of cores that your machine has.

Just loaded up a saved scene from DS4.5 into DS4.6 (previously saved with Reality 2.5) and everything works as per normal.

superboomturbo ( ) posted Fri, 17 May 2013 at 1:05 PM

Question for anybody who knows (ahem, Paolo): This is the line where the samples are set in a scene file, correct?

Sampler "lowdiscrepancy" "string pixelsampler" ["hilbert"] "integer pixelsamples" [64]

On the animation project, the next chunk of 351 frames are about done, but the last hundred are composed of a fly-in shot from exterior to interior and came out quite grainy. I thought I could catch it in time by changing the exposure and F-stop, but they still look a bit torid compared to the bulk.

Thanks for the other bit, Doc; we had storms come through a few days ago and just got power back, so you'll have to excuse my late acknowledgement. Sounds like our system resources are fairly similar, though my main workstation is also the render rig. Typically after Lux fires up, Studio gets killed.

Nope, that is not the value. You need to look in the film section for the haltssp value.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I've just ran through 10 pages and not found the answer....

I've just upgraded to 3 from 2.5 because I got the email saying it was out.... I use Daz Studio rather than Poser, and have just upgraded that to the 4.6 version.

I've spent my money too soon haven't I? :-s

Quote - So I decided to dust off the ol' rig today and play with an idea I've been simmering on for a few. I've hunted and read up the last few days on Lux animations, and I'm rather determined to bang out an animated promo for a new book series (the first of which is FREE through Friday =D http://www.amazon.com/MechaNation-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00B0J48Q2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368043196&sr=8-1&keywords=MechaNation)

Anyhow, after playing with SLG2 today and photon mapping, aside from some texture variations, the eyes of my character keep going whiteor at least look it. And no, before you guess, its not a specular setting, or a texture issue, or lighting... :-(

I don't know what the Eff is going on other than some phantom SLG issue. I'll get a picture up in a bit as soon as I remember my dA password. Been too long!!

SBT... I'm just catching up in the forums here.. been a busy few weeks as I lost a cad project I've been working on for school and had to redesign a house that has taken me 16 weeks to design.(have 2 1/2 weeks left to do 20 weeks worth of work).  That being said.. where the hell have ya been? Haven't seen you post here in a few months.

Sharkey diggin the new rig its nice to be able to create scenes and start them up at work on the notebbok then just let them refine on the system at home..

Quote - Hi Bob! I literally had to dust the rig, no joke.

The baby has been sucking up all my free time for months. On the bad days, she is like a little black hole that you watch your life disappear into, then come out in yellow nuggets resembling fool's gold.

The good days, when she's not trying to indirectly kill me, are a blast though. Could be the ease of making a small version of yourself laugh...

Sharky, to quote from Enemy of the State, 'you're either very smart, or very stupid'. ;-)

I love the analogy SBT.  My daughter is the even worse than that at 15 months.  I can completely relate.  Like yesterday... due to her demands for time and attention.. it took me 7 hours to do 1 hour worth of trig homework.  Mine's not trying to indirectly kill me yet; but, she's gone a long way towards seeing me legally committed.

superboomturbo ( ) posted Wed, 22 May 2013 at 10:13 AM

Hey Sharky! Guess I don't have to ask how school is going. I've been scared of the same with all the storms going on around here lately (so much so that I pulled the rig under that stairs with my wife, the baby and the dog last week when we had a close scrape with a twister). I've been working on an animation sequence non-stop (CPU only--its slow but stable), but the random power outages are bogging things up. We went out and got a generator last week for the fridge and such, so at least work can resume. Before that, the babywas just eatting up so much of my time that I didn't have the energy or the drive to really work behind much of anything.

I should have a preview in the coming week though, with music and sound effects! Current frames are taking around 40 minutes each. I have to compromise on the interior shots, quality-wise, otherwise a 3,680 frame sequence would take over ten years (10.3xxxxxxxx to be exact). Waa Waa...

By the by Sharky, I'm going to reverse my decision on ATI video cards. Had I the money, I'd scoop up an HD7990 or its cheaper siblings in a hot second. After doing some extensive reading on Lux and GPU rendering, ATI's newer cards are practically built for blistering GPU-rendering speed. These nvidia cards I have seem to be more like a hinderance because of how they coded CUDA. Damn!!

Funny you mention that Sharkey. The kid who built my system told me about the possibility of adding a second fire pro card later on but claims that a single card set up is more reliable. What I may do once I have the funds from sold projects is upgrade from the 2 to 4G DDR5 card and sell mine privately.

I was reading a lot about Lux regarding the upcoming SLG4 and it seems to highly favor Radeon's parallel processing methods in spades. Pitting the two top cards, ATi vs nvid, the ATI card hammered the nvid by 4000% on Luxmark! Four THOUSAND!! That had my immediate attention. The nvid's still seem better for actual gaming, but ATI's tech is a realized dream  for useful processing and high demand calculations (like, say, rendering. Bwa haa haa haa!).
