Subject: the Dawn of a new day...

As for Dawn: please, is it a file compression issue or is it a bending issue? (See the red circle on her upper body)

I think it's a lack of anti-aliasing in the image.  It's a pretty low-resolution image, too.

Or...it could be a skin-tag.  :D

Personally, I look forward greatly to Dawn, her images look fabulous & I know that I will most likely be supporting her as well.

It's wonderful to see those who seemed to love Victoria moving forward in this way and it's definitely a move that I can support.

And a great description it is too! My favourite body type. Probably why I like V4 and GNDA2 so much. 😄

Quote - Dunno if its already been said, but I'm strongly reminded of my old favourite , Posette.

Good reason for that ... from Hivewire 3D's post on page 2 ...

Who is HiveWire 3D? HiveWire 3D was founded by Chris Creek, who many of you already know of. Chris first began in the 3D industry at Viewpoint Data Labs in 1991 as the lead anatomy modeler. While there he modeled the Toddler which later became the ridiculously-popular "Dancing Baby" seen in media spots throughout 1996-1998.

**** Chris eventually left Viewpoint to become the President/Co-Founder of Zygote Media Group where he modeled the revolutionary Poser figures: The Dork and Posette. ****

These two figures created a new market and new business opportunity. Upon this realization, Chris and Dan Farr decided to part ways from Zygote and created DAZ 3D where Chris was the Executive Vice President/Co-Founder for nearly a decade. It was there Chris modeled the ground-breaking 3D figures: Victoria and Michael. Prior to devoting his life to 3D and digital content, Chris worked as a freelance artist and painter which at the time allowed him to be home with his wife and three young boys.

*** Now Chris has brought his decades of art and business experience to HiveWire 3D, modeling (among other things) our core female figure, Dawn. ***

These can still be made fuller also with a morph.

There are actually two layers of lashes here for top and bottom.

Plus the huge set for the Fairie and party lashes (shown earlier) or whatever.

I really like what I've seen so far!   The details on the elbows and back are great but please, please don't forget the hands and feet - realistic detail there makes or breaks the model especially for close-ups.    Here's V4's hand and foot freebie fix by Marieah which has become indispensable for me.   I'm hoping that Dawn will have some similar morphs.   We spend a lot of time dialing different faces but if you notice, people's hands come in all shapes and sizes too :)

Any word on which UV sets will be supported with Dawn?  V3, V4, etc?  Or will we have to buy "Original Dawn UV" textures?

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2013 at 11:49 PM

Dawn has her own UV maps.  The texture shown on the renders posted will be included with the free base, and is a merchant resource.

They want us to be able to use our old textures with Dawn, too, and said that will be via existing conversion tech.  So...something like Universal Texture Converter for Poser, and the UV-switching capability for DS, maybe?

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - Also, the transmaps on her hair aren't right.  If it's a Poser render, see this thread on how to fix that "ghost hair" look.

It might be a DS render. Then again, it might be a Poser render and he forgot to change the gamma of the transmap to 1.00 (assuming he was using PP12 or PP14/P10) ;).

I'm guessing it's a Poser render. The DS renders posted earlier showed the hair much, much thicker than it appears in the Poser renders.

Not surprising, given the background of Hivewire's founders, but it looks to me like they are much more familiar with DAZ Studio shaders than Poser.  Get some Poser shader experts on board!  (Bagginsbill?)

I think they said they are not quite at the stage of doing shaders yet, and mostly showing us quick screenshots rather then beauty shots.

Quote - I'm not sure there's a wisdom in modeling a body part counter to the default pose of the figure. It might be even more disturbing to the general public, and remind people of old Egyptian figures.

I'm not arguing the merits or flaws of the industry standard default position, since it's always driven me nuts that I have to put the arms down on every figure just to do an initial test render, but suggesting the logistics of up arms and down breasts might be problematic in its own right.

I will say that the originating team behind Dawn are coming from a specific background, mostly Daz. They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel, but simply offer a new version that addresses concerns about the direction of the industry and attempts to correct them.

There are many ways of modeling a figure and rigging it, and just as many pros and cons. The thing with this team is, they have a ton of experience, I'm sure there are many things they thought out at the begining and during the project.

Lot of times, users claiming that things HAVE to be done one way or another just shows their green-horns more then anyting else.

Thanks RandyM!!  Interesting -- two differenct approaches.  UV Switching is DS would require re-mapped UV sets for Dawn.  Universal Texture Converter converts the texture set based on special UV "plug-ins."  I wonder which way they will go...

Agree Laurie, M4 is a pain to do things for because of the thighs.

Give modellers a bit of space and we are very happy to do things.

So, much easier when we are using zoom, rotate etc. in out programs for making things.

I love StitchWitch! :D I agree with the M4 thighs. I've made a few outfits for the figure, but haven't done so in a while b/c of the problems with them. It helps if you put the character in wireframe or ghost frame mode, however. But, still a pain.

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Thu, 27 June 2013 at 9:26 AM

Yep, all my base figures end up in Silo in Ghost Mode.

The main advatage is if you can get the actual Geometries file into your modeller. That way, you don't have to mess with zero rotations etc.

What would be nice is if Dawn appeared with an absolute Zero pose. Normally I work on that pose, but a lot of characters come in with a pose set on that is different from it.

Ok been following this since it was first announced and it does have my support, I'm just wondering if we're going to see an official list of new features that actually makes Dawn different from all the figures that are currently available. Maybe a contrast/comparison list of features covering Dawn against the top 2 or 3 females/figures currently available.

So far I haven't seen any examples of what makes her stand out. I'm not familiar with any of the names that are behind her development so none of that means anything to me.

Not trying to be overly critical, just wondering what it is about her that is so different. So far I have seen several things that look more like drawbacks than bonuses. I haven't seen anything that has made me think "wow" yet.

But at any rate, good luck with it. I'll keep watching and if she really is an improvement over what is currently available then I'll do my best to support her.

:)
