I was a beginning/intermediate user of Poser 6 and I just upgraded to Poser 10 so I could start using the program again (P6 is installed on an older computer and I was sick of unplugging the new machine and hooking up the old one just to do a render)

I am absolutely flummoxed. I've tried going to P10's Content tab, Install from Zip Archive, and installing some of my content. For instance I've tried to install Michael 4 into Runtime > Poser 10. Nothing. I installed one of my 3rd party pose packages, and it showed up temporarily in the downloades folder of my library, but then disappeared.

I'm so frustrated, having upgrader's remorse here. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm running Windows 7 on a Gateway.

Where are P10 and contents installed?  If you followed the installation instructions for Win7, you should be installing P10's content in a separate location, under a share folder in Documents.  Installation into Poser's parent runtime in Program Files will be interfered with by Win7's User Access Control, or UAC, which will interfere with files written within.  If this is the case, you will be looking at a reinstallation.

Answers itself.  Gateway does not support my specific model, so I cannot get drivers for my printer - ever.

Specific to your situation, though . . .  Transient or ghost files might be a result of competing / incompatable virus protections - check to see if you have two products running and, if so, play with the settings and see if you can get a better mix? :)

THey should put a flashing red banner in the installation that says

"DONT INSTALL THE CONTENT UNDER PROGRAM FILES WHEN USING VISTA OR HIGHER OR YOU WILL BE SAD!!!"

BTW, you should be able to put Poser 6 on your machine by copying the enitre Poser program directory from the old machine to a directory outside of Program Files on the new one and creating a shortcut to poser.exe.  You can then add the runtime to the new Poser version as an external runtime and not have to reinstall your content...**

Hi Pamela, If you just want the installed content, copy the runtime over, but if you copy the entire program directory the program should work.  I've done it with Poser 7 and I'm told it works with earlier versions as well.  Just make sure it doesn't end up under Program Files in either case.

Once you have done that you can add that runtime to the Poser 10 Library as an External Runtime....

I'm facing a similar problem.

I'm moving to Poser from Daz (fed up with Daz's garbage and lousy programming) and have purchased the latest Poser Pro 2014.

I have a small SSD which is just for Windows and programs.  NO CONTENT WILL BE INSTALLED THERE.  I have four 2TB conventional drives for all my stuff.  I'm a professional photographer moving into 3D and have much, much stuff.

I wish to install ALL Poser content in one of those drives and NOT in 'my documents'.  Will this cause any problems?

I did this in Daz but had the problem of uninstallers not showing up...anywhere.

I have all of my content on my D: Drive.   Create a directory on your big drive of choice named 'Poser Library" (that's what mine is called) or somesuch, and when the pp 2014 installer asks where to install the content, point it to that directory, and it will create a content folder in that directory. You can also create additional subfolders there to catagorize your content (I have V4, M4, A3, etc) and add those folders to the Poser Library

As far as DAZ content goes, I hightly recommend the DAZ Install Manager.  You can download and install/uninstall content very quickly.  There are a few items which are not yet installable with it, though, and be sure to reinitailize the Gen 4 figures after installing morphs for them...

I've fought with Daz for two years now and have moved to Poser.  Sometimes I get the feeling that the programmers at Daz don't actually use the program they're making.  Poser is so much better from many respects...in my humble opinion.

Unless you're someone comfortable with turning UAC off (not recommended for the average user), then there will be no problems.

I too moved to Poser from Studio, but the Install Manager is indeed quite useful.  Just be sure to uninstall the Content Manager service it has lately begun installing...
