That's about the length of my hand when I have the heel of it at my chin.  I just checked.

Same here.

I think her hands are fine.  I have relatively big hands for my size, and my fingers go to just over the eyebrows.  Maybe my head is too big.

The wrist does look odd, though.  Very thick compared to the hands, and the bend looks weird.

It looks to me that she has her own face morph and texture. I could be wrong, though - they're similar.

About the red legs: it might not even be the same resource. Light-skinned people get that reddish leg for about a day or two after they wax theirs legs. I imagine most women who agree to pose naked for ridiculously high-resolution photos of their everywhere places in their bodies would want to be recently waxed, as even shaving would show that body hair in such hi res photos.

LOL! That's alright then. It looks as though Dawn has been created with "Renderosity-user" hand proportions :)

Too small for me to like them though. On hands and feet she's definitely not good enough out-of-the box for me. But hey, maybe Blackhearted will come along and save her? ;)

The hand should be smaller, and the fingers should be longer.

Total lenght of hand+fingers is OK.

The wrist looks odd to me too.

The female ideal is to have longer fingers, of course, so her hand may look stubby for a glamor girl.  I think it's fine for an ordinary woman.

Would like to see a few more renders of her hand and wrist.  Maybe one of the hand upright and straight, sorta like a Vulcan salute?

vagabondallen ( ) posted Tue, 09 July 2013 at 12:18 PM

As I wrap up my 26th pose for Dawn and counting, I notice a few things specific to her shape and bending, especially compared to v4.

Dawn's wrist could benefit from more definition and bend improvement, but only at certain angles, and mostly, it seems, where the wrist meets the back of the hand. The fingers and toes are less model-proportioned.

Her legs are shorter and her arms are thicker, which effects the points at which arm and leg intersect. For example, this changes the position of elbows on knees.

Her torso dimension, top to bottom, feels better balanced and better proportioned.

All in all, though, the apparent imperfections in my opinion aren't bad. They are simply not matching the ideals some adhere to or hope for. I think that makes her a better facsimile of a person, and helps her to feel more unique and special.

I would hope people are making observations and not complaints. Observations will inspire content creators well enough, while preventing the lack of support that complaints can cause.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Dawn's uniqueness and look forward to her bright future.

On a semi-related note. Can anyone tell me why the ground plane guideline doesn't show up in the front camera in PoserPro2014 except when viewed in outline and wireframe display modes? I really need to see it in lit wireframe mode.

I agree.  Such to-do about the length of a hand! Not everyone is the same size/shape.  My longest (middle) finger comes to the top of my eyebrow when I pose like that.  And can people please try to remember that this is OUT OF THE BOX.  There are no morph packs yet, which will, I'm sure, allow lots of changes.

Personally, I'm enjoying ALL the renders.  Thanks to each and every person who has spent their time and effort to create them.

Not a great render, but Live long and prosper, Dawn!

Here is a quick example were I used an old V4 outfit (Future Cop) via Autofit on Dawn in DS. I simply made a quick and dirty morph that has roughly the shape and basic pose of V4 for Dawn, declared it as a autofit clone and then loaded the clothing. Works nicely with a little help from smoothing and collision. Note that with a better clone shape you will get a better fit. Overall this is no more difficult than using the fitting room in Poser Pro 2014. I use both programs all the time and have no issue clothing her with my old stuff in either program. Nice to work with a figure that can be leveraged in multiple programs to take advantage of each program's strengths. Now I just have to find time to make proper material setups for Vue.

If Dawn's wrists are thick, then mine are....

...yeah, too thick. LOL (mine...don't think Dawn's are really.). I'm actually quite pleased with her proportions, whether they meet the definition of "realistic" or not.

On a side note, V4's wrists don't look all that awesome when bent back at a 70 degree or more angle either ;). I'm sure if they think it's a problem, Hivewire will get to fixing it.

One could of course take the time to make a perfect V4 morph for Dawn but why bother? I am 100% sure that on the release day the V4 clone will be there. When V4 came out over the night everyone stopped making cloth for V3. I am sure that the same will happen with Dawn. Except that all the old V4 cloth will work with Dawn out of the box. Daz made their genesis ecosystem so clever that a new figure fit in with no trouble at all.  It is called progress.

Bending the wrist back that far on a human causes the skin to bunch and wrinkle.  A mesh won't do that without a morph specifically designed for that type of extreme bend, because the mesh is a hollow shell, not layers of flesh and bone.  If anything is wrong with Dawn's wrists, it can be adjusted simply with weight mapping, so that it bulges slightly instead of indents.  It's a rigging issue, not a modeling issue, and it's certainly not the first rigging issue we've experienced in Poser/DS.  Over all, I applaud Dawn's rigging.  It's better than any I've seen thus far.

And for users, use a magnet if you're to make those sort of extreme bends.

You can do it.  :-)  I don't know which program you use, but Fugazi1968 has GREAT tutorials for Silo (a stripped down version of Modo, IMHO) -- and two for Hex, that I know about.  All are excellent, and there are some that are geared to content creators.  :-)

If you have problems rigging -- or just plain don't like to do it -- go for dynamic clothing or if PhilC will be so kind as to make an Obj2Cr2 template for Dawn (I'm hoping!), get Obj2Cr2, and it will do most of the rigging work for you.  :-)  You may have to adjust a jp or two, but his Obj2Cr2 even makes skirt handles.  Long live Fugazi and PhilC.  ;-)

Or here, there's QuickConform, that Xurge uses in his tuts...the resources are endless.

You CAN do it!  And it's a lot of fun, too.

I love me some Modo!  :-)

I modified the specular on the bikini top and bottom, but everything else is straight from DS (I'm not a big Luxus user, so I'm a bit meterials challenged). Thought the Luxus users following the thread might like to know how well she works. Setting up clothin for dawn has been the easiest experience so far.

I cant say 100% how much of that is from dawn and how much from improvements between poser 2012 and 2014.

Dawn has extra body parts that actually make weightmapping the clothing easier, as the bends in each body part are more subtle.  In fact just using 'copy joint zones from' to project the weightmaps onto your clothing piece gives a very good starting point.  Most bends just required smoothing of the weights.  A few of the small groups in the torso required adding an extra 'affected by' actor to propperly smooth the map into the next body part.  Way way way less frustrating than any project i've worked on to date!

It didn't seem appropriate to start it in the free stuff forum as many folks will be offering their efforts for sale.  If anyone has a better suggestion I'm happy to hear it!

If you want to show off something you are working on for her, go nuts!!

Edit to add:  Also started a thread in the Daz Studio forum for WIP show and tells!

Great Uncle LROG

Who honors those we love for the very life we live?, Who sends monsters to kill us?, and at the same time sings that we will never die., Who teaches us whats real?, and how to laugh at lies?, Who decides why we live and what we'll die to defend?, Who chains us?, and Who holds the key that can set us free... It's You!, You have all the weapons you need., Now Fight!
