Subject: the Dawn of a new day...

SatiraCapriccio ( ) posted Tue, 09 July 2013 at 1:09 PM

If Dawn comes with the same MorphForm morphs as V4 (where you can scale the hands, feet, legs, head, and chest), you could just as easily size the hands and feet up a bit.  I actually do that a lot with my characters as I like to add a bit of "I'm not quite human, you know" look to them.

Quote - LOL! That's alright then. It looks as though Dawn has been created with "Renderosity-user" hand proportions :)

Too small for me to like them though. On hands and feet she's definitely not good enough out-of-the box for me. But hey, maybe Blackhearted will come along and save her? ;)

I've tried using Hexagon... but it crashes too much. Think about trying zbrush but that seems like going from riding a bicycle (Hexagon) to piloting a jetplane... Is Silo good? I see I can get it for 60 which is way more affordable for me than Zbrush which would take a few months to get.

paganeagle2001 ( ) posted Tue, 09 July 2013 at 1:21 PM

Silo is a good starter, it has all you need to start and is not overburdend with menus and do dahs on the screen.

I use it all the time, never looked back.

Zbrush is an amzing thing, but the learning curve can take longer to do.

Start with something like Silo (others will recommend various free ones, test them out, nothing to loose) and do little things to start with. Simple tops, dresses, skirts etc.

Gain confidence in what you are doing and you will want to do more.

The amount of people I have seen that on their first go, they want to model a full hypersuit with helmet, boots etc. What normally happnes is, it doesn't go as well as they thought and then they give up.

Small steps, lead to bigger things.

All the best.

Well, I wasn't going to show this... lol.

I modified one of my bases, did a bit of cutting in Silo and had this ready for a cloth sim in about 5 - 10 minutes. It would have been quicker, but I added in various material zones.

Theoretically, we're not supposed post about commercial products even in the Market Showcase unless they're meant for the Rosity store...right?

Not sure there's any place where possibly commercial WIPs fit in, since many will presumably be sold elsewhere, like at Hivewire.

But posting them here in Freestuff doesn't seem right, either.

toastie ( ) posted Tue, 09 July 2013 at 1:32 PM

Absolutely I'm sure you will be able to change the shape and size of the hands and fingers, either initially or with other morphs.

My comment was that the hands looked strange on all the renders I've seen. After talking about it that seems to be the result of small hands/stubby fingers and thick wrists. I'm sure that's fine for lots of people. For me hands/wrists and feet/ankles are very important and can make or break a figure.

I can't see myself using this figure, just like I don't use Antonia or Michelle. They're just not what I want. Now that's not a complaint. I'm not expecting anyone to make changes to a figure because I don't like it. I just don't buy figures or content for figures that I'm not going to use. And this one is not my type.

But anyhoo - my comment about her hands looking strange in the renders I've seen so far stands. They look strange. Maybe I just don't know or see many people with stubby hands and thick wrists? :)

Wasn't really expecting it to, just need to wait for the Dawn XD to appear, then any of the Universal Clothes will work with her.

Yep, the universal server is running. Get an error in CR2 in the DAZ logfile, maybe something to do with where it tries to save the CR2 in the 64bit version. I'll start a thread on RDNA as that seems to be the only place where you can contact the makers.

I love the mesh, the joints and the modelling but why has she got red legs when the rest of her is not so red. I have looked at many a leg in my time and I have never seen a person's legs so red compared with the rest of the body. This is pet peeve of mine and I would prefer to have a more realistic skin from the get go.

Otherwise she is bang on. Good job.

The red legs come from the model reference not properly prepared for the photoshoot. If you walk around all day the blood is going to circulate down in your legs. So the red is actually realistic if she was walking around prior to the shoot. If the model does not do a lot of movement before the shoot, then you will not see this and will get references without the blood flow. However since most reference models come from 3d.sk and the way they get their models... well we won't get into that... but this is in a lot of their references, so if you don't want the red, you'lll have to do texture surgery or replace it with a different reference.

Yes, we won't be releasing XD support for Dawn until she is released to the public, so Universal Clothing won't work for her until then.

You do need to make sure that XD is updated to the very latest version in order for Universal Clothing to work.  There are updates needed for every figure to make them recognizable by the plugin, so when you run the XD Updater, make sure you also update all figures you have installed as well as the program.

A quick followup to the DAZ Studio Autofit image I posted earlier. I have now also fitted the same outfit on Dawn in Poser via the Fitting Room. Here is a side-by-side. In each case it took me about 20 minutes to do the fitting. For DAZ Studio I have the advantage that the clone is now done na dany other clothing pieces can be done very fast and automatic. The fitting room gives me more control which can be helpful in complex cases. The fitting room had a hard time with some of this outfit due to some welding issues in the obj. And yes I know there are still issues (boots and collar for example), but this is just a quick demo. Cross dresser will also be very helpful here.

The DAZ render has just basic lights and I did not properly adjust the cloth materials.

Ciao

While true.. it is a great program as a pure modeller.  For me, very intuitive.  I'm very interested to see what Modo has to offer but the price tag is a bit steep for me!

It is a fantastic little modeler.  :-)  Very "clean" and straightforward.  Combine that with one or two of Fugazi's tuts, and you're on your way.

I went from Lightwave to Silo, and was totally happy until...like we all do...I started wanting something with more power under the hood.  I've been using Modo 701 under a trial 30 day license, and it is flat out amazing.  I had a little trouble with the "snap" option, because Modo has so many options, but I got it finally.  😄

I heard, too, that Silo isn't being developed further, but a license is "cheap."  3D modeler cheap, that is.  But if you want to go for the gusto, Modo is a fine choice.

I wouldn't get Zbrush to model Poser clothes.  Not unless you want to do a lot of remeshing. 😄  It's fabulous for morphs and displacement maps -- unbeatable.  And the painting tools are eye-poppers, too.  But I don't "start" models with it.

So many decisions...and don't all wish we had more money!!!  ;-)  'Cause we gotta save some back for Dawn.  She's gonna need a character and some hair, anyhow, when she slides into my runtime.  And poses...she'll need poses.

I love me some Modo!  :-)

I have...it think it's pretty great ;).

The video linked was punishing on the attention span... but it does look like an interesting program.  Just not sure it is much different/better than silo.  Hard to say with the decided lack of info/promos available on the website.

That looks interesting.  :-)  I've never heard of that one.

Edit:  Just read a quickie review, and it's said to be a free combination of "all" the popular modeling programs.  Couldn't hurt to give it a try.  My heart is set on Modo, if I've got breath and britches when the sale rolls around, but if I were trying programs, i wouldn't skip that one.

*OOps, wanted to see what'd happen if I tried a grin smilie.  Nothing.

I love me some Modo!  :-)

And back OT -- Dawn has the prettiest face I've ever seen, on an out of the box model.  Her legs are gorgeous, too!  She looks like she'll be a definite keeper. 😄

I love me some Modo!  :-)

Maybe give dax's CARRARA a try it has

Modelling / Animation/Plant _Tree generator/terraine/ physics/terrific shader creation/ Fog_Fire_Realsky/ Hair and more plus handles many files including all poser. Demo and cheap versions but latest 8.1 Pro usually on special.

LOL seriously? I don't think that's for everyone, after all some people have short fingers and some people have long fingers. My fingers reach my eyebrows.  Small hands. My music teacher told me to never try to play piano. HEH.

Even my hands dont go that far, and proportionally i have small face and big hands.
