Well, it's always interesting to see true colours project beyond the thin outer veneer...

...Anyways, one thing we can all agree upon is that there will never be cross-compatible dynamic cloth, but for DAZ Studio users, there's a fair number of optitex dynamic outfits for V4 that should work fairly well with Dawn, albeit she'll probably need a bit of a shape tweak - maybe call it a dynamic body preset if you like.

So even if the "reunited" hype is just an illusory pipe dream, at least there will still be options available to DAZ Studio users irrespective of how available Dawn-specific items will be in DAZ Studio.

---- "Well, it's always interesting to see true colours project beyond the thin outer veneer..."

If I might comment on this ...

The decision to support one or both versions of the figure doesn't take away from HiveWire's intent to provide a figure that is compatible with both DS and Poser. 8-)

It would be up to the content creator to decide whether or not to support one or both apps - there will be some that will make the effort to support both, there will be some who choose to collaborate, and there will be some who decide for one reason or another that it will be too much work (either because of skills or "the bottom line") and will stick with the app they are most familiar with.

To be fair, dynamic clothing compatibility isn't a "Dawn" issue, it is an application issue, so that shouldn't cloud the true colors of this figure release and the original intent of making it compatible with both platforms.

I thought I should comment here,... while I don't obviously have much experience in 3D figure clothing sales, last year when I did my Hawaiian Hula clothing, I did both platforms (Genesis/DS and Gen4/Poser-DS).  My sales to date are 51% Gen4 -49% Genesis.  So from a content creator's point of view, it's makes sound financial sense to support both sides.  I was strong in Poser, but less knowledgable in Studio-- so I took on a partner who filled in on my weaknesses.  Creating and rigging for Dawn on both sides will be much easier because it's the same model and most of the work doesn't need to be repeat like it did with V4 and Genesis (which were two seperate models).

Were I a creator for studio, which I am not, I would be up  in arms about this as it makes several insinuations.

The one that would piss me off the most is the insinuation that I either lack the skills,(which I do) or I'm too lazy to think about something not of the gray blob school.

What makes you so sure that the studio creators will NOT develop for another figure?  An opinion that what I just stated is true?

Jeez!  Let's get off this "we're gonna get the shaft and XXXX is gonna get all the good stuff."  Either (A) the creators are going to recognize a good thing when they see it or (B) they'll decide it's not a good thing.  All of the gene stuff, and the optitex is unavialable to me, and 99% of the rest is of no interest to me, but I ain't crying about it, I use what I have.  I'm not worrying that there may be something made and I can't use it, that exists already.  Self fulfilling prophesy never brings a good result.

Precisly so. As I said before:
What do you need to make content is an exact mesh model in the right size and perfecty positioned. That is all there is to it. (the same go for morphs)

When the two models are the same = very little extra work involved. That is true progress, no thin outer veneer or illusory pipe dream.

Measuring artist output numbers takes the guess work away.

No speculation, no argument, just a objective measurement of quantity of renders input in the Gallery here.

So,

It would appear that the divisions and bad feeling run too deeply after all...Thats a great shame.

I understand the 'fear' that content creators may end up polarising the market place with DS Dawn only and Poser Dawn only content...that to a certain degree is inevitable so what do we need..???

Well instead of us retreating into our respective software camps, why don't we work together to find a solution to that general problem...which must be some kind of conversion utility that will allow cross platform conversions of ANY clothing that is released for Dawn.

This is the problem we face, now lets put our human ingenuity and creativeness to finding a solution.

p.s. I am a Studio and Carrara user, though I fail to see that that should have any real importance.

Peace,

Yes its easy enough there are several tutorials that take you through it. Basically you open up the time line tab drag the maker to a point put your figure in the pose you want, reset timeline to 0 - load clothing item you want get it over the figure as best you can some times I have to sclae the item but that will dissapear once you drape, set collision and then drape.

It can be a bit fiddly especially long sleeves and legs - this was actually really easy.

Quote -   Even if you don't bother with fixing the morphs, you still have a lot of work to do before the clothing will work half as good as it did in Poser, especially if Dawn has the same crap projection templates that Genesis came with, or worse doesn't have any, in which case your going to have to learn how to rig and paint WM in DS.

I can tell you that even if a character has no projection templates and you use the base figure as a source that it will provide the rig from the character for many things this will work with minor adjustments. For example renaming the legs to handles. It doesn't provide a perfect setup but it is a start. I have already tried to find out how to create projection templates and I'm thinking I will pm Sickle. I know at the moment she is waiting to see how many of her customers are interested in Dawn but she may be willing to run me through a 'how to' of creating projection templates. After all she has created some beautiful ones for Genesis.

Besides, it's all water under the bridge. I don't really dislike DS users for using DS anymore than I'd think of disliking Blender users because I happened to use Wings. LOL.

A lot of us are gonna have to do some serious cramming to be able to make things work in both programs, and I think a lot of folks are willing to do it. Time will tell. For right now all we can do is wait and see :).

I really don't understand this vitriol agains DAZ for their free application. When they first discussed it and released it I remember everyone was excited. They left us out of the loop now by more completely supporting their product and apps. Businesswise it was a brilliant move. I could get D/S if I could wrap my head around al the learning curves. But I can't so i stick with what I know. What I see happening though is I will no longer be spending money there. I have been spending less and less these past few years and months. As ghey promote D/S and Genesis more I purchase less.It bothers me because I see the merit in the whole Genesis technology...Personally though i have never used it, seems brilliant use of mesh work.

I use Angela1 and Ang2 and i just got his Cindy Centauress and have had his BOD for a while. He makes really nice hair too and got many of them. Though he does a nice job on these characters the lack of support even by him make it hard to stick with them for all your rendering needs. He has gone the extra mile for his BOD character making a lot of little fixes for me as requested which has been really appreciated, and seems to want to help out fixing Cindy the Centauress figure but for someone used to the great bredth of versatile usage available in V4 even V2, Mankahoo's figures like other third party figures that have come and gone, are hard to fill the voids of no Millenium figures to use.

Let's see....

Dawn is great with DS dynamics. No issue.

I haven't posted pics in the Rendo gallery for years. >_<

I could make Daz content but I can't make poser... Poser people can get Daz for free, but its not the same for a Daz Studio user, who may not be able to afford the version of Poser to work with Dawn.  So not every vendor will be able to support both platforms, but may try to find a partner.

V4 has many Poser only items that make me wish I had that and  had poser!

V4 has many Daz only items that make me glad that I have Daz Studio :)

Dawn will be much the same- plenty of opportunity and delights for all of us.  The more we give the more we'll all get back.

I'm impressed with Hivewire, the folks are so friendly and open and try to take our suggestions and desires to shape their figure Dawn.  I've never personally experienced that before.  Yes, with individual people and vendors before. But with an entire store... I'm really excited.

I think Hivewire will be great.  I think Dawn will be fantastic. I think the future will be as bright as we can make it, as fast as we can make it happen, and wildly crazily confusingly enthusiastically fun. :)

Just remember, we all have different styles, different preferences.  Square hands, poser skin, DS skin, higher breasts lower breasts, eye spec, skin spec, leg length finger length..... Dawn can't be everyone's expectation at the same time, but we can make her into what we need, and she's the figure that can meet those expectations.

I'm falling asleep as its 6 am so pardon any uninelligable incoherence please!

OK 100% ONLY poser user here.  Never really used DS at all, but I do intend to try to support as many users as possible.

Ok so I have to say that conforming things in DS is pretty simple.  It took me longer to figure out how to load dawn into DS than it took me to bring in a few pieces from my set as OBJs and set them to comform to Dawn.  There are a couple of little tweaks to be done but the set up is pretty close to done as is.  If I was a 'good enough' sort of creator I could almost let the rigging lie without touching it at all.

I have no idea how much actual work is in setting up clothing shaders for DS or how much work is involved in cleaning up and packaging the files, but I really dont see rigging as being anything of an obstacle at all.

Maybe to try to clarify my point, the figure has not even been publicly released,  How many creators and which platform they support is an unknown.  Only the creators have seen the figure in their own computers to make any analysis of what it's going to be to work with.  A FEW of them have commented, but probably that does not reflect the whole group.

I know there's not enough mason jars in all of Ga. for me to do that one.

I would like to congratulate Dawns content creaters.
For taking the chance on a new character.
Working hard to make Killer content.
but seldom hearing Killer content.
While smilling as your Killer content is put under the microscope.
Still not enough mason jars.

I would like to say how proud I am of those that has put the past where it belongs.
and let the hate go n left the cannons silent.
I rase my mason jar to you.

For those that have a hard time letting go.Well burn a candle for you.
and save a mason jar just for you.

I would like to say how proud I am of those that have done there best to be polite.
I know how hard it's been at times.
I rase my mason jar to you.

Heres to Dawn the silencer of the cannons.

Yeah it was pretty straightforward to get them to conform ... but I need to smooth out/tweak some bends here and there (not major, I'm just picky) and if someone could point me to a tutorial where I can make that happen, that would be great. Then I'll need to study up a little bit on the DS Shaders.

Just counted the uploads in the Gallery here.

Starting last monday:

Poser gallery uploads         : 282
DS/Studio  gallery uploads : 131

That's not a true indicator. I've never posted in my gallery here but I do buy here and also at other stores. I'm a ds user. To be honest over the last few years I've tended to hang out at DAZ. Primarily because it's been safer. Not everyone posts to galleries...

I just didn't post it but I was thinking it - go to Daz and those results will be reversed if not even less Poser gallery submissions. LOL. It just depends on where you go ;).

Too true...lol

The only real indication is sales which Ken gave us an example of...

Quote -   I really don't understand this vitriol agains DAZ for their free application.

DAZ & Poser both have youtube chanels.

Think these will help with DAZ

I use DAZ n Poser both

Precisly so. As I said before:

When the two models are the same = very little extra work involved. That is true progress, no thin outer veneer or illusory pipe dream.

I need to figure out how to tell it which bones to include... my boots dont need individually wiggly toes!!

I saw the weight brush in the figure menu.  There is only really one little spot in the buttock that needs to be fixed and a tiny bit of smoothing in the upper chest.  It actually comes out of the transfer process at about the same state as when I finish smoothing poser transfered weightmaps.

>>> I need to figure out how to tell it which bones to include... my boots dont need individually wiggly toes!!

The boots I made ONLY include Shin, Foot, and Toes group - for the groups in the models themselves. Not the individual toes, but the PARENT of all those little wigglies. So the very very very front of the boots is just the "Toes" group.

I didn't include any of the individual toe bones when I rigged them either. Rigged up fine that way in both DS and Poser as far as I can see.

The boots are the part that need some of that smoothing the most 8-)  But not because I forgot the toes ... because there are a lot of details in bendy areas.

Well, THAT is definitely GOOD news! LOL Shaders I'll figure out in that I'll use the Poser ones, see what's not working and either modify or get rid of that particular part. I do have a few friends who use DS, so I'll I'm sure I'll be begging help. LOL

We might be suing a different workflow.  I just used the transfer utility and it autogroups, rigs and weightmaps the object.  I couldnt locate in teh dialogue how to tell it which bones to include/omit

I love the way she bends, so easy to pose.   Her default body is closer to most women I see than Vicki's ever was.   Sure there are other things I want too (teeth morphs!) but I can wait.   People need to chill, there's too much drama over everything it seems these days :)  Anyway, I think she looks smashing with Vicki's dynamic skirt and top (by nikisatez).

Ah yes, I manually grouped the boots to exclude the individual toes. 8-)

Hi MeatSim, That's normally done by choosing a projection template. I'm assuming you used Dawn as the template and got the full rigging.

If you click on the symbol that looks like a bone with a cylinder through it the bones will show in the workspace.

select in the scene tab the bone you wish to delete or click on the bone in the workspace.

Right click in the workspace and a menu will pop up choose delete/delete bone.

I prefer that to delete unused bones but you could try that also.

If you are making a skirt renaming the node via the edit option for the leg bones will help to give you handles. Sickleyield did a tutorial on that over at DAZ. Sorry I will have to hunt out a link.

I'm still learning rigging myself so can't really help more than that.

Deecy...I've just taken over the List of Tutorials for ShaderMixer yesterday and I'm currently trying to update it and reorganise it.

I've put in links to the different documentation for the bricks to make it easier to find the official documentation and I'm trying to organise the tutorials into types.

The list can be found here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/25448/

I'm also planning on trying to write tutorials for some of the networks to make it easier for people just learning. I have permission from 4 of the people who have posted networks to do this and I will gradually work my way through the others networks.

It will take time.

If there is anything you are specifically looking for please ask in the thread and if I can't help I know that others like Beyjamac : ) are normally willing to help with networks for a specific purpose.
