Im trying to texture the M3 Apollo space suit and cant figure out how to use a texture map as the reflect color for the vavles.. see image. Ive tried to plug the map into the reflect node several different ways and none work to get the effect that plain old reflect color gets.

The softness value is high, is that what you intended?

Are you after a simple red glossy/shiny reflect or a radiosity effect, where the red is reflecting light diffusely onto other objects? The former should be easy with a red specular value, the latter requires IDL rendering. Are the valves a separate material zone to the rest of the suit?

You could simply multiply the reflection with an image texture map (see illustration).

Background on the reflect node should be black unless you are intend to plug an image into it.

BTW, the valves shouldn't all be red.  Some of 'em are blue on the real thing.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
