Subject: Making novel Aliens- any one else? Post your efforts

I may be the only one interested in this sort of thing. :-) But for the last few weeks I've been working (playing) with making whimsical Alien Humanoid morphs and altering existing textures for poor old V4 and one for M4. I seem to be trying for mostly comical rather than scary results. They are not based on any particular Scifi character.

Thoughts, comments-suggestions?

The first one is somewhat derived from my reptile pet-so a reptile-alien crossed with a Lemur (huge eyes)

The Lipstick and smile are part of the cartoonish  comic "friendly" alien theme. I could have altered the mouth into a beak and gone with fangs-but I wanted a comic look.

The second one is a little more extreme!

This is cool. What program are you making the morphs in? I like them, and I really like the texture of the skin, too.

I made an alien figure for V3 once in the past. If I can dig her up somewhere I'll post it :)

Aliens are fun and I really like how nice yours look :D

Thanks Trekkiegirl

I used Zbrush. The scales are both morph and displacement maps. I am by no means proficient with Zbrush-just learning by doing.

I've been playing with the texturing nodes for quite some time-mostly to get more realistic skin-obviously this is a whole different purpose.

See if you can find the Alien!

THIS is creepy (M4 morphed in Zbrush).

Hm. I found my alien, but the textures had been lost somewhere on the harddrives during the years. So this is NOT the original texture (which was actually quite elaborate judging from the thumbnail.

As far as I remember I didn't so much make the actual morph as the textures (which are ... hiding somewhere :( ) and the dress. But in the interest of Poser aliens, here she is :)

(She was made back when Poser 5 came out with all those newfangled materials L)

Looking good! I hope you find the textures! Ah Poser 5. I missed out until Poser 6.If you have 2012 or 2014 you can make even more newfangled materials!

Dunno about novel, but i'm working on these for a mobile game right now. First is Antonia and second is Genesis 2. Sculpted in ZB and will be exported as morph + displacement map.

I'm guessing your going to re topology them to a low polycount game mesh.
It's against the Rules to use any of DAZ genesis meshes like that.
DAZ did sell game meshes at one time.don't know about now.

Don't know about Antonia.

Nah they're gonna be talking heads with limited animation, like you have over text in some RPGs. So only renders will be used, not meshes.

Wow the second one with the horns looks awesome! Zbrush is really great for things like these. I wish I could make heads or tails of that program *L* Believe me, I've TRIED... but OMG that interface...

As for my v3 alien, I searched the whole computer for the textures, and they're just not there. They're probably on SOME back up cd somewhere, but not on the computer :(

But it all got me in the mood for some morphing. Originally I would have used one of the Poser figures, but both Roxie and Allyson had symmetry problems and then it's just too much of a bother, as I'm using Blacksmith3D and that program really works best on symmetrical meshes (at least it's a LOT easier that way)

So in the end I brought out V4 and morphed the heck out of her L I also made her a texture to go with it, it's actually a lot like the missing one for the V3 alien, same base tile used for the painting (ah this is where I REALLY love Blacksmith.. it's great for quick textures like these)

I don't know if she's sharable, I let Blacksmith create a new obj file, mostly because her legs are so much shorter and I wasn't sure the original obj would work properly. She bends fine now but with her original obj? I'm not sure. I will try it and if she works she may eventually be a freebie. If anyone wants her L It's just a few hours of pulling and prodding, nothing serious L

Nice work! I am going to sit down and work through some modeling tutorials. So far I just found out how to import meshes and export Morphs and displacement maps and just started playing.

Very cool- and great pun about making heads or tails. No tails yet-but I've made heads.

:-) I have a long ways to go with Zbrush. I was able to make some things with it during the trial period-so I bought it.

yea if I can make it work without the custom obj, then I will :)

I've loked at both 3DCoat and mudbox some time back. But sadly, after I've blown all my savings on PP2014, it'll be a while before I can afford new software.

Hexagon works fine for making models.. and I like blacksmith for morphing. But one day.. I'll try something else for sure :)

Guess I alt to say I don't know about 3D Coat displacement or vector maps.
Wouldn't matter for game meshes but might for Poser.

Ghonna

Do you have a handle on making displacement maps for Poser that don't have seam issues? I'm using V4 and M4 which have multiple maps-and having a DEVIL of a time not having seam issues. If I created a single UV map it would work-but then I would lose all the lovely existing texture maps using the PoserUV's.

Here is an example. I was making a "Sith Lord" (Star Wars). I made aged skin Dmaps and of course-this caused seam issues. Since this is about Creatures-I morphed it in Zbrush to give it the extremely WIDE mouth (with WIDE teeth)-so I guess it's a Sith Demon. :-) The grungy teeth are based on Darth Sidious (after he became disfigured). For some reason his teeth took on a very GRUNGY look.
