Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
more explanation is needed.
first of all: Which Poser version.
Then, you'll need a good metal texture, and almost as important, something "outside" the scene, like an environment dome (I personally love the Terra Dome from RDNA but you can get BagginsBill's Environment dome for free, you just have to hunt down testures for that on your own - they're there on the internet, but the Terra Dome comes with textures AND lights...)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
note that's not only the texture which make a sword look real, it's the pose of the figure using it which contributes also.
Just do a simple lenght x width x depth estimate for it, and 10grams per cubic centimeter. Usually, a mens-high sword of some serious width and thickness has half the weight of the warrior him/herself, and just swaying around with it makes it look like a plastic toy even if the materials are good.
have fun

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.
visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though
Swords aren't necessarily trerribly heavy; the Wallace Sword ia a two-handed claymore that is 5' 6" including the hilt, and weighs 6 pounds...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."How to make swords look "Real" ?? All very good advice regarding shader's and lighting..but the best way to make swords look "Real" ?? Go do some basic research on REAL LIFE swords, and have your characters use those. Forget so-called "Fantasy" style blades that no-one in RL could ever wield...all spikes and wierd shapes. And forget the "Over The Shoulder" sword scabbard so beloved of fantasy arists - if someone is simply carrying a sword, slung over the back , merely to move it from one place to another, maybe across the back is OK. But you can't DRAW a sword in a hurry from that position- the human arms simply can't do it. As said before real swords..one's designed to be used in battle, aren't all that heavy..say 1 and a half to just over 2 pounds for a single handed sword.
The 15th century Scots often wore their claymores on their backs. But drawing the blade consisted of dropping the scabbard/baldric combination while holding the hilt.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
Another thing, a well balanced 4-5 pound sword is fairly easy to wield. I did that in real life with a 5 pound hand-and-a-half.
The trick is, you grasp a large sword with a long hilt close to the crossguards, not in the middle of the hilt. That would be murder on your wrist. Quite a few fantasy images depict the wielder holding the blade close to the center or the end of the hilt - that doesn't work!

But the men at arms buster sword weighed around 50lbs and threw the guys back out when he tried to use it.
WARK!

I am just a beginner, but how do you load textures to make Onmi Swords look like actual swords? I don't know if it is in the material room....
Thanks.
