That looks so pretty. I think it'll sell a whole lot when it hits. great work with the eyes and lips. Good color coordination too.

The skin color can be altered via an HSV node or a color node in the node setup so if you need a pink or black or orange elf you're only a few clicks away!
Also, I changed the eye color to red on the elf because I was told - and then confirmed - that dark elves, or Drow, have red eyes. Those eyes glow in the dark too supposedly so I did the same for SimOne's elf eyes.
The tattoos are NOT painted-on. They're overlayed via the Poser nodes, and easily removed or added for additional effects. Of course, you can always Photoshop' the whole set together to save rendering time and increase cross-application compatibility though many cool Poser-only effects will be lost. (I'm) Sure you can reproduce Poser results in most 3D software so its really a choice based on your market.

If you're looking for an already-done way to change skin color check out Simone 2 Merchant Resource.
These are made in the same applicable style as SimOne 4. If you use these, prepare to make some big changes. Everyone on the web has them!!

SSS and the Sub-dermal Maps
that came with SimOne
I know that many of you have ZERO-idea what the subdermal maps are for and how they work. That's fine...
What: subdermal maps are suppose to show what's immediately under the skin; veins, fatty tissue, healed scar tissue, and almost...muscle/bone(seriously, its not even worth painting for a number of reasons) that alters the hue of the maps. For instance, there's a lot of blood in the buttocks(lots of reds) but not so much in the forehead(light red and some whites).
Study the subdermal maps on Victoria 4. Do a few quick renders using only the subdermal maps - nothing fancy.
How: Turn out all the lights and hide in a dark place. Turn on a light source like a flash light and put your hand in front of that light source. You'll notice that light penetrates your skin and exits in all directions making your fingers glow. That's SubSurface Scattering. Anyway...there's no veins visible when you do this. To see some vein work, trying using that light source on your ears while you look into a mirror. You might see a few veins shilloutted in your ear when it glows. Bingo! This is what the Subdermal maps will do! Those maps will show - not just the Poser-default SSS effect - but the actual tissue and vein underneath.
Granted, you'll want to paint your own veins into your maps.
Anywho, here is how to properly setup SSS and vein-work effect in Poser 9+...
I'm going simple on this one, so adjust as necessary.

I'm going simple on this one, so adjust as necessary. Anything "off screen" is not important for this example.
Really, what's been done is that the subdermal map is applied as "1" in Diffuse_Color and a Blinn effect has been applied to control the amount that the subdermal map shows through. You can also use an edge blend node for more profound effect. Heck you can use fresnal blend if you know how to set it up!
The usual SSS feature in Poser 9+ is applied, as usual, in the Alt_Diffuse channel.
The main thing here is controlling how that light enters/exits through the skin on the Diffuse_Color amount. Play with that - its your real SSS helper.
About my render and setup: you'll notice that where there is more light...more of the subdermal map is exposed. Where less light is, less of the subdermal map is exposed. Keep in mind that MY subdermal map has veins and arteries painted on it - WAY more than what is with default SimOne.
My render versus "SSS Pro" render. Notice the difference? JOY! Imagine: a new layer of skin to work with!! Imagine scales, but undernearth...vein work! Or toad skin...but under it: zebra stripes! The useses are endless. Get to working, people!

SWEET ... they can be edited easy .... and gives me somewhere to start ... now if I can save my art PC and find all my other projects (massive system crash .... still identifying files with fingers crossed) .... then I can get to work ...
Thanks!

Ouch. Sorry about that system crash. I know what that's like! Its a horrible and painful thing, indeed. Usually takes a week or so to recover. Hang in there!
Quote - of course ... NOW you put it on a great sale ..... after I spent my store credits LOL
LOL sorry! I would have advertised it earlier but my laptop gave zero warning on this one! And it just started working again for no apparent reason - everything is where I left it, too. Odd...maybe it just shorted out. Dunno! Alas, my sale will go on. I DO Need a new laptop! The one Im on is a IBM T42(2003) business laptop. Ugh!
The bundle sales will start tomorrow and last all month, but those will be 20% off.
The current sale is store-wide for 30% off and ends this coming Sunday.
And now...back to finishing product shots!
"Now, concerning morphs...I assume that everyone has V4's creature morphs or morphs++ and can dial-in their own elf ears. If any merchants out there need me to make new morphs for this episode of SimOne speak now or forever hold your gold piece! hehe"
well? Where are them ears?
trying to work my rejected Hunnii for V4 (dark skin but editing shape and such) and trying to nderstand some of your linked nodes ... like why the default dark hasa red HSV? And is the displacement map the same as a spec map?
Better get in here Cori .... cuz am still waiting on that M4 thing don't forget ... LOL

I didn't know anyone even wanted those ear morphs:P
I'll put them up on here for free and post when I do. I'll do about ten for Victoria 4.2 and use some Community dials for them. Merchant Resource free and all.
And the M4 version of SimOne is done; its just taking forever to get it packaged and render-set. Almost there...
Displacement actually raises or lowers the mesh, while a bump map only makes the mesh LOOK like its raised/lowered. Try viewing a displaced mesh from an edge where the displacement is strong; you'll really notice the difference. A bump map won't change the surface of a mesh - and no, you can't use a displacement map as a bump map :P
Totally - the specular map and the displacement map are different. Specular controls the amount of light the shows on a mesh. For instance, there's the "T" zone(forehead, nose bridge) which has a mid-range(grays) specularity on dry humans. The lips, however, have a higher amount of specularity and require a higher(whiter) amount of specularity.
Quote - "trying to work my rejected Hunnii for V4 (dark skin but editing shape and such) and trying to understand some of your linked nodes ... like why the default dark has a red HSV?"
well? why is this red? it seems to give a orange-ish tone to the skin ....
I made that one node a little red because that color better sets-up the skin for shader work. Without that little node and its friends, the rendered skin would look especially paler. A little pink[panther] is good for skin!
Also, the FreeStuff item { CC Ear Morphs } got approved today, and is located:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/download_item.php?item_id=72432
Its a merchant resource so use the heck out of it.!
Okay, I think I'm off to watch people play video games - oh, what joy...NOT!
Quote - Cori ... where you hiding?
How do I darken the skin in Sim#4? Gonna play with the "blood" stuff too ... might use as blood but might use as mud or dirt for a warrior thing ....
I'm posting a lot of updated products to the marketplace. Its just taking a small bit of forever.
Uhm...oh! Which material shader are you using; the one with the blood? I mean, usually the quickest way to darken skin is just choose a darker diffuse color than white - this method sucks, though. Try it to see why.
Meanwhile, soon as I get this next update posted, I'll take a look at SimOne 4 and give you better answer.
Meanwhile, here's what the update has. The high amount of displacement on MU2 Brown Displacement is good for things like fur, snow, needles, and such. This one also uses the veins maps under the skin. Both of these effects are over-done on purpose so you can edit them to your liking. Ask here if you have any questions.
The next middle shot is the same thing as the first just done correctly, but beware the glow-in-the-dark lips I choose to use.
And the last one on the right is the glittery skin I made via this forum. So there.
And since I have your attention, please remember to use either(NOT BOTH) the eye surface's specular value OR its reflection value. Should you use both, the eyes will not take shadow and light correctly.
Quote - Well since I have not found you in here ... here is ANOTHER question ... LOL
Can the bloody effect (or muddy too) be used with the drow option?
Yes, you can use anything-with-anything. To use the bloody option it'd take a bit couple new Blend nodes and the use of the masks. Whatever is plugged into the SSS node as diffuse, just plug THAT diffuse into the top white-color of a Blend node, then shove the blood map into the second white-color of the Blend node, and then...put the blood mask into the numerical value of the blend node at a "1" value. Finally, just connect that new mashup Blend node where the diffuse map should go in the already-existing SSS node for the drow. This SSS node should already be plugged into alt_diffuse; do this if its not already done.
And...the same setup goes for the specular value and the reflection if you're using both reflection and specular values for the blood. Ask if this is confusing. I can demo if you need me to :D

The glowing tattoos are easy enough; only two nodes and you're done. I'll leave that to you guys(ask me if you need help with it)
*raises hand ..... which nodes and what edits? and why are the white drow brows not rendering?
I also did NOT get notice about a reply ... go figure ....
I figured out the brows thing ... was my stypid LOL ... but still waiting on the glow info ... for tatts ....

Now ... what was it you said before? oooohhh pretty! LOL
I like the sparkles, definately .... but also need glowy tattoo node info!
As for the eyes, I am sorry but I use a different MR for those than yours ....

After all this time in here with bouncing questions off ya, I do actually follow this ... but trust me .. .a screen shot would help! I am also wanting to know how to edit the blood for a dirt effect ... so drop that into your info pretty please!
And where is that darn M4 MR .... I need it ... and I need it on sale ... big sale as my bank is SO in the red ....

Glowing is easy. Just use a black/white image input to Ambient_Color or Ambient_Value. Black(value 0,0,0) is no glow whatsoever. White(uhmm...numbers: 256x3, I think) is your most powerful glow-in-the-dark intensity.
For instance, check out "DrowTattoo" in your SimOne 4 MR. After applying this one to Victoria 4, you'll notice two things plugged into Ambien_Color/Value. A quick render yields barely-glow-in-the-dark tats. Now, try using a "5" value in Ambient_Value and render - instant glowing tats!
Quote - > Quote - > Quote - Next question ...

There IS a color shift there. Don't let it trouble you. Doesn't show when you render.

The link won't...link. The site replies that the image/album does not exist. Do show.
And the M4 is finally getting its actual promos done. It'll be the third-next project I get out the door behind Kenya: Brazil and Kenya: Denmark. I'll put the SimOne for M4(no product title yet) on sale the moment its approved so don't buy until I set he initial-release sale at 30% off.
Screenshots? I can do that. Don't forget that a lot of stuff is covered in the online youtube tutorials. Well, nothing complicated :P So...I may need to make some new videos. I have to, like, hide things when I do product shots of SimOne's material setup but I'll make sure it's understandable.
Quote - I will see if I can upload the pic ... and I would love a screen shot to be sure where to plug the blood or mud effect (and settings) nodes ... email it if easier ....
Check the normal map(only for SimOne, not SimOne 4). I...might have made it upside down and then not reversed it on publication. Looks like I need to update this.

All righty-then! [Here's the answer with video](http://youtu.be/sOSiheGw2h4). More to come - sorry, my computer is EXTREMELY SLOW! It takes me hours to make a video for a five minute tutorial. Oye, kill me now! :Phttp://youtu.be/sOSiheGw2h4
mud .... blood .... rambling brain ..... its all good .... will re-watch the vid again to get the node links I need ... but cant wait for mud vs blood too ...
thanks for working with me ... and I still wish I could help you out on the needed laptop ... sorry .... I hope I am not being a pain with all this .....

Can't wait to see the inished product!
Me: stuck on no-internet connection again - as usual. Simone 4 delayed as a result. Sucks. Its actualy finished and packed too!
