Whenever I close down DAZ studio 4.6 Professional and go to open Poser Pro 2014 the Poser .exe file is deleted and Poser will not open.I keep getting an error saying" The Item Poser Pro shortcut has been changed or moved. Do you want to delete the shortcut?" I then have to re-install Poser.I have had these programs running side by side since DAZ Studio 3! Why this is now happening I have no idea. Can anyone make any suggestions? I have also notified DAZ and also put a post in the DAZ forum. Cheers

As a short term solution copy the Poser.exe to another location and copy it back when this happens instead of reinstalling the whole program again.

I have no idea why this would happen - sorry.

Edit - are you sure the .exe has gone, or just the shortcut link is broken?

No solution just questions incase they help provoke ideas (no need to provide answers if you feel of no use)

  1. When does the short cut stop working, when Daz studio is started or when you exit from it

  2. Do you have seperate runtimes for Daz and Poser content?

  3. What is the Poser shortcut actually pointing to?

  4. Have you checked the drive Poser is installed on for errors recently?

  5. Could this be caused by AV detecting a problem with the Poser exe (have you checked AV log).

Try deleting the problem shortcut and creating a new one by selecting the poser.exe in windows explorer (right click > send to desktop)

Many thanks for all your replies. In answer to some of your questions.

The Poser Pro 2014 .exe file disappears completley from the Poser folder. However the runtime stays.

The shortcut stops working when after I close DAZ Studio down and try to open Poser.

I have separate runtimes for both Poser and DAZ.

The Poser shortcut is pointing to the .exe program in C: Program files/SmithMicro/PoserPro2014. Runtime is on same drive.

Daz Studio Advanced Pro was on a separate removeable 1 terrabyte hardrive. However the Content Manager at the time was on my C:Drive.

I have checked that that there isn't any errors on the Poser Drive.

I do use AVG free antivirus and a paid version of AVG PC Tune up.However I have been running this system for years without trouble.

Windows installed about 27 updates recently.I doubt if this would be the problem.

Finally I have uninstalled all DAZ Programs,Content Manager and Install Manager.

I have reinstalled DAZ Studio Pro,And I still get the same result.

DAZ have replied and pointed me to their help desk. But this is all about installing DAZ products.

I am at lost to know what is happening! Cheers

For the moment I seem to have fixed the problem. I re installed  Poser Pro into C:/Program files/Smith Micro folder not C:/Program Files Smith Micro Poser Pro 2014.

I then made a copy of the .exe and put it in a folder marked Poser Pro 2014. This contains the main runtime.

I have since open and closed both DAZ Studio Pro Advanced 4.6 and Poser Pro 2014 several times and all seems to be working properly. I really do not know what has happened. Maybe something got moved accidently. However I think it was a Poser problem not DAZ!

Many thanks for all your advice and help! Cheers

Attached Link: Process monitor

As the title to this thread says, this is very weird. If the problem returns and you are curious to find out if the file is being deleted by Daz Studio (seems unlikley) then the sysinternals Process monitor will show detailed file operations for a process. It's not the easiest tool and consumes a lot of your time but is useful in these cases.

This seems too specific to be a disk corruption problem but might be a good idea to catch up on any backups you do just incase.
