In the image you can see the little problem that is driving me nuts. I can't get rid of those ugly extra lines no matter what I try. I've double... no, triple checked both the texture and the transmap but I can't figure it out. Anyone else out there ever had a similar problem? What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure but I would look at the transmap again, seem to be a problem with a line that is white instead of black to be invisible... You might wanna let somebody else check it, I often stare myself to death on the transmaps not seeing it anymore after hours of strugling *S* Hope you get it fixed, it sure does look cool! Caro

Try setting the Highlight Colour to black and the Highlight Size lower.

You may also want to look at the figure itself in "lit wireframe" mode, to see if there are polygons there that maybe just aren't being covered by the transmap... if there are you can always put them in a new group and give it a new material that's set invisible... unless of course you want to make the texture/transmap available to other people... then you'd have to figure out where/if any polygons aren't covered by the map...

i set all highlight colours to black, set the highlight size lower... i tried the lit wireframe mode but didn't understand much of it... and i checked the transmap again. i really don't understand this. :-(

What figure are you applying it to? If I have the figure, and if you want to send me the transmap I'd be more than happy to take a look at it (I'm at work now though so I won't get a chance until later in the day).

Cin-, the transmap is for Vicki's bikini top from the Victoria clothing pack 1. I've been working on that texture all evening, and it finally looks a bit better, but there are still some ugly parts in it and I'm getting really annoyed :( If you have the clothing pak, IM me with your email address and I'll send you the transmap.

I don't have this model, but it looks to me like the top edge of the model may be folded back so that it enters back into the texture. If you move the texture down just a little it may fix it.

I think its like Roy says, the polygons are folded over to give it thickness and when you look at the texture map they are behind the parts your transmaping.....i can't really think of a fix for it except a remap (not a good idea here :o( or deleting the polygons......i think the latter may be the best bet, if you have trouble let me know i can do it in cinema and i don't think it'll lose the mapping.....Steve

Now that I can see the model (Thanks Steve), I'm fairly sure that if you want to apply the texture to an unaltered model, your going to have to move that top edge down just a tiny bit. That is a nice texture by the way.

Thanks, everyone. I can see what you guys mean. What a nasty little thing. sigh I moved the top edge down a bit and the texture does look better now, but for example the part near the strap still looks like s**t. I wonder if I should try remapping. I have no idea how to delete those polygons... then again I don't like the idea of remapping the bikini either because that's extra trouble and I was hoping to sell those textures one day. sigh

steveshanks ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 2:45 PM

I could delete them for you but then you'd have problems selling the file.....to be honest if it came with pants i'd buy it as it is, but i know how you feel about getting it right.....Steve

Cin- ( ) posted Mon, 24 September 2001 at 2:51 PM

I may have a way around remapping the bikini top that might work... this won't involve having to remap the bikini either, so you'd still be able to sell the textures... you'll need to load the bikini top by itself into poser... go into Lit Wireframe mode, this'll let you see the polygons... you may also want to make your background black, it helps to see a little better... open up your grouping tool and select the body parts where the texture isn't applying right... create a new group of the polygons on the top edge, and anywhere else that it's not working... export that as an .obj make sure you select all of the body parts... bring that into UVMapper and go to select->by Group and select your new group. That'll show you where on the template those polygons are, so you can adjust your own transmap to be solid black right there... I hope I'm explaining this well... if I'm not explaining it right, or if you want me to try it just IM me and I'd be glad to once I get home...

I'm going to have the same problem with the bikini bottom, I think... :/ it's got those "thick" edges as well... Cin-, me and the grouping tool aren't buddies, I would appreciate any help you can give me with this. Your solution sounds good because if it works I don't have to start remapping or anything else which I find hopelessly complicated. This is definitely one of those days when I am so happy to be a Renderosity member. You guys are the best. Now I'll go before I start to weep :-)

Hands Eowyn a kleenex... do they have kleenex in Finland? I'll look at it when I get home... I'm surprised I don't get in trouble at work for being online so much... but then when you're in charge of your department, who's gonna yell? :) Oh, it's nice to be chief... just kidding.
